“You should go talk to him,” she said, breaking the awkward silence that hung between the two.
“No...I couldn't. It's been two years! He could have called or something and he didn't.”
“Well, neither did you,” she countered back.
“I know...believe me, I know.”
“Then go talk to him,” she said, pushing him some more. Kurt looked up and saw Blaine talking to someone. The hazel eyes glanced his way and then went back to the person. But Blaine stopped talking and looked back at him. Kurt grabbed his bag off the bench and rushed out of the court room.
“Kurt!” Linda yelled at him. He made his way outside quickly hoping Blaine didn't come after him. Getting into his car he threw his bag in the back seat and ran a hand through his hair. There was no way he could face Blaine. Starting his car he started the drive back home. He'd need to write up his article and he hoped to get it done without Caden all over him.
When he got home he went right into the kitchen. He made himself a sandwich and heard the tell tale footsteps of Caden walking into the kitchen. The noise stopped at the doorway and Kurt turned around.
“You left early.”
“I had to be in early to submit my article. Then she said she had another assignment for me so I couldn't come home. I text you this Caden,” Kurt said.
“No, you didn't.”
“Caden...stop. I'm home now and I don't plan on going out tonight,” Kurt replied, annoyed. He grabbed his plate with the sandwich and his bottle of water off the counter and walked towards the living room to go to his computer in the room down the hall. A hand came out and stopped him from walking.
“Caden...”
“What's wrong?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Something's wrong. What's going on?”
“I'm okay, Caden. Don't make a big deal out of nothing.”
“Kurt. You look like you've been crying...”
Kurt sighed and put his stuff down on the side table. Caden's arms wound around him and a kiss was placed on his cheek.
“What happened today?”
“I saw somebody from years ago...and the memories just bitch slapped me in the face.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Not really...”
“Kurt...come on,” Caden said pulling away. He kept both of his hands on Kurt's biceps. Kurt looked down not sure what to do.
“It was Blaine...I saw him today. He's a lawyer on the case I need to cover,” Kurt replied, worried. He looked up into Caden's eyes worried. Caden's hands moved from his arms and he let out a loud sigh.
“You still have feelings for him don't you?”
“Caden...”
“You remembered everything you two had and now you want to go back, right?”
“Caden, you don't need to worry about anything. I am with you, now. Yes, it hurts to see Blaine. Yes, the memories came back and it hurt but you are my life now.”
“For some reason, I don't believe you,” Caden replied shaking his head and smirking. Caden backed away from Kurt and ran a hand through his hair. Looking back at him, Kurt could see the bubbling anger in the etches of his face.
“Caden...why shouldn't you? I've been nothing but loyal!”
“But now, he's back! I can't trust you! For months you pushed me away saying he was yours and you would end up back together! What happened there? Well, here he is and you want him back. You think he'll take you back now? After hurting him like you did?”
“Caden...I know I can't get him back...I'm not trying to!” Kurt replied getting agitated with the way he was acting.
“Of course. That's what you say now but I know the truth.”
“What truth?”
“You know.”
“What? That I could do much better back with Blaine instead of your lazy ass?! When are you getting a job so I can stop killing myself? When are you going to treat me like an equal in this relationship?!” Kurt burst out. His temper had peaked and this was it. Maybe he'd get the courage to walk out and stay gone.
The slap echoed in the quiet house. Kurt's cheek stung harshly as he registered the hit to his face. A rough hand tightened around his wrist holding him tightly. The fear raced through his veins making him wonder what was next.
“You have a lot of nerve. You're lucky I don't beat the shit out of you right now,” Caden said. The grip on his wrist grew tighter until Kurt thought his wrist would snap. Caden pushed him to the floor as he let his wrist go. Kurt crashed to the floor, putting his hands behind him to catch himself. Pain shot up his abused wrist and he looked up to see Caden walking away.
Kurt got up slowly, trying to get the anxiety and fear out of his system. He shuffled towards the bathroom, nursing his wrist. Once there he got the first aid kit from under the sink. He wrapped his bruised wrist up with the ace bandage he found. He looked into the mirror at the broken eyes that were his own. They were once vibrant and full of life but Caden had broken him and stolen his life.
That night, he laid on the couch with a blanket. Caden walked over to him and kissed his forehead. Kurt moved away from him and looked up at him. Caden looked remorseful and worried. Kurt shook his head and glared at the man before him. He always wondered what made Caden turn into the beast that he was sometimes.
“Stay away from me. Good night, Caden.”
“Good night...” Caden replied. He stood tall and walked away from Kurt.
“Keep thinking you'll leave...you never will,” he heard uttered as Caden disappeared into the hall.
