“I left you reading eight hours ago and walk back in with you reading,” Kurt said.
“What can I say? I need to study. Finals are coming up and then the BAR in a few months. Ugh, I can't take the this,” Blaine replied. Kurt sighed and sat down on the couch as Blaine sat up.
“Then take a break. We barely go out anymore and I just want one night with you,” Kurt said. Blaine sighed and nodded. He reached over and grabbed Kurt's hand that had the engagement ring on.
“I'm sorry. I promise...this weekend will be ours,” Blaine replied.
“You said that last week and the week before. Need I go on?” Kurt bit back as he got up and walked into the kitchen. He put his bag down on the kitchen table and pulled out his folders of papers to go over. Blaine walked into the kitchen and threw an envelope on the table. Kurt looked at it confused and saw the return address on it. Blaine had found Kurt's little secret.
“Where did you get that?” Kurt asked.
“I found it in our bedroom on the floor,” Blaine replied nonchalantly. Kurt closed his eyes and let out a breath. He thought he had lost it when he got into work and hadn't been able to find it.
“You didn't even bother talking to me?” Blaine asked hurt. Kurt turned to see the frown on his face mixed with hurt and anger.
“I wanted to wait to see if I got the job,” Kurt replied putting the letter down.
“Well, you got it. We're you going to tell me if I didn't find it?”
“Of course, Blaine.”
“Really?” Blaine asked. Kurt nodded and picked it up off the table.
“Well, what's your decision?” Blaine asked as he crossed his arms. Kurt closed his eyes and opened them back up to see the hurt expression on Blaine's face.
“I don't know? Like I said, I wanted to talk to you about it,” Kurt replied.
“When did you plan on going? Immediately?”
“No. I would have waited until you graduated to go. If you decided to, you could have taken the BAR there and found a job down there,” Kurt said.
“You think it's that easy to take a test and get a job? I have a job lined up for me here once I get done with everything!”
“You act like you're the only one between us with a job. I'm sick of hearing you whining!”
“Come on, Kurt! I don't think that!”
“Whenever I talk about work you keep saying how you have more stuff to read or a big test next week. I'm tired of you acting like you're the only one with a life!”
“I had the internship with the law firm and I was working...my life is hectic with still being in school. Maybe you'd understand if you were too!”
“Whatever,” Kurt said and stormed out of the kitchen.
“Don't do this, please. Let's talk this out,” Blaine said following him, almost defeated.
“No. I don't want to talk anymore,” Kurt said turning back to him and then walking to their bedroom. Later that night he finally left the bedroom and sighed. Blaine was on the couch, without his book, staring at the ceiling.
“Hey,” Kurt said, breaking the tense silence.
“Hi.”
“I'm sorry about before...”
“I am too...I'm stressed and I know you're busy too and you're right. I do act like I'm the only one who matters...”
“It's okay...but...”
“But what?” Blaine asked standing up and turning to him.
“I'm taking the job...”
“Kurt...”
“Don't. This is me furthering myself!”
“I know...but...I never thought you'd be moving from the city...from us...”
“Too many bad memories are present in this city...I need a new start,” Kurt replied as he wrapped his arms around himself.
“A new start? Meaning?”
“I don't know...”
“Meaning without me to hold you back and pull you down. I get it,” Blaine said walking into the kitchen.
“No! That's not what I mean!” Kurt said following him.
“If you don't want to get married then just tell me!”
“Of course I do!”
“Yet, everytime I ask you about it you brush me off. I don't know what I have to do to get you to commit! You act like I'm Ryan all the time!”
“I am committed!” Kurt replied getting upset. He did not think Blaine was Ryan. Yes, he was scared but he knew in his heart Blaine would not leave him.
“Then don't push it off anymore! Let's get married...”
“So I have to stay in New York?”
“No...you know I'd go anywhere for you and do anything. We can't marry there...so let's do it here. We can get married, a small affair with family, and then when I get down there we can go on our honeymoon,” Blaine said.
“I can't push this job off for months and I can't plan anything in a matter of weeks.”
“Weeks?”
“Yes...I would need to be down there in about six weeks,” Kurt replied. Blaine ran a hand through his loose curls and sighed. He shook his head and bit his lower lip. Kurt sighed and looked at him scared.
“I can't do this...I'll...I'll see you later,” Blaine said. He walked over to Kurt and kissed his cheek and left the apartment. Kurt stood in the same spot for a few minutes trying not to break but he did. He wiped at the tears and then put his hands on his hips. The letter laid out on the table. Kurt looked at his hand and pulled the ring off. He looked at it sadly and picked up the letter. Walking into the living room, Kurt stopped by the couch. He looked down where Blaine's book rested on the table. He placed the ring on the book and walked into their bedroom.
