“Kurt?”
He blinked a few times and looked at Santana.
“I'm sorry...”
“It's okay but come on. Isn't he hot?”
“Who?”
“The new guy.”
“I don't know...I guess...I didn't meet him yet,” he replied.
“He's as gay as gay gets. I swear to you guys. We got ourselves somebody for Kurt!” Santana said.
“Is he gay?” Rachel asked curious.
“Hell yeah! I'm so happy. Kurt needs somebody good. He's a decent guy and he's hot.”
“He really is good looking. I'm with Santana on this,” Quinn said.
“No, guys. Stop. I don't want to date anybody!”
“Kurt...we know it hasn't been long but...come on. You know you need to go out with somebody,” Quinn said.
“You don't know what I need...and neither do I. I just want to focus on Abigail,” Kurt said.
“She's still young, Kurt. It's easier to get her to like someone at this age.”
“That's the point! What if she gets attached and we break up? Especially with him being our neighbor...”
“Don't worry right now. Just introduce yourself to him,” Rachel said. Kurt sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
“I guess...”
“That's what I thought!” Santana said happily. They talked about work drama for the rest of the night and then they all went home.
That Sunday came all too fast. The day at the spa with Quinn was relaxing. He had enjoyed a day to himself. He hadn't been out like this in over a year. The next day his little girl was on her way home. He was on the porch reading off his kindle when Andrew's car pulled up. Andrew walked over to the side of the car and opened the door to get Abigail out. He heard a dog barking and saw it running up to his ex and daughter. He threw his kindle down and ran down. Andrew hit the dog away as it reached him and Abigail.
“Shadow!”
Kurt looked to see the new neighbor grabbing the dog's collar. Andrew set Abigail down and Kurt scooped her up in his arms and kissed her cheek.
“I'm so sorry! She got away from me! I swear she wouldn't have bitten you. She's just friendly and being in a new neighborhood has her...”
“I don't give a fuck! Put your dog on a leash!”
“I have the invisible fence in. She was in my yard and the next thing I knew she was running away. I had it at my old house she knew better until we got here. The fence shut down over night I guess...”
“Like I said, I don't give a fuck.”
“Andrew, stop.”
“Look, Kurt, if nothing is done about this then I will keep Abigail with me until then.”
“Get out of here! You aren't getting her over this! It was an accident. Her owner is here and apologizing! And watch your language in front of Abby!”
Andrew glared at him then Blaine and stormed away. He got in his car and drove off. Kurt put Abigail down and she looked at the dog curiously. Kurt looked at the man curious. He was a little shorter than Kurt, not by much, had short black curly hair and these caramel colored eyes. Kurt was smitten.
“Go inside, sweet heart,” Kurt said kissing her head. She nodded, smiling, and waved to their new neighbor and skipped away.
“I'm going..to uh...go. Sorry again.”
“Wait!” Kurt said as the man turned away.
“I'm Kurt. And I accept your apology,” Kurt said holding his hand out. The man tentatively shook his hand and smiled lightly. That smile made Kurt smile. It was relaxing and perfect. The smile lit up his eyes and made him seem even more perfect.
“I'm Blaine. It's nice to meet you. I guess that was...your ex?”
“You'd be right. I hope you aren't like...”
“No! God no! I'm gay too...I just got out of a relationship and moved here to get away and start over.”
“Divorce?”
“No...just a long relationship.”
“Ah...I see. Andrew and I were married. Things got bad and you know...Abigail is my daughter with him. He was just bringing her home today.
“She's a cute girl,” Blaine said.
“Thanks. Technically, she's mine. I wanted to keep her from him but he won visitation. As you saw he is a huge jackass,” Kurt said.
“Uh..yeah, it seemed.”
“Sorry, you don't need to get caught up in my drama...but I'm sorry for how he acted.”
“It's okay...thanks. I need to check the fence now. It should have been on. I guess it turned off over night.”
It's okay,” Kurt replied smiling. He got excited as an idea formed in his head.
“Um..Abigail is home early. Do you want to join us for lunch?” Kurt asked worried.
“Sure...thanks.”
“We'll have lunch in an hour...join us then?”
“I will. Thanks.”
“Your dog is welcome too. We normally eat outside on the patio,” Kurt said.
“Shadow.”
“What?” he asked confused.
“Her name's Shadow.”
“Sorry,” Kurt said smiling. He looked down at the harmless dog. She was panting in the heat due to her dark coat. She was a German Shepherd and stood straight up.
“I'm a police officer, she's my dog.”
“Really?” Kurt asked intrigued.
“Yeah...I'll explain later. Thanks for the invite! We'll be there!” Blaine said smiling and walked away. Kurt smiled and looked over to see Quinn across the street giving him a thumbs up. He shook his head and walked into his house wondering what to make for lunch.
