Blaine felt a hand press to his back and he slowly opened his eyes. He blinked a few times to focus his eyes and when he did he saw Kurt's worried face. He rolled from his side to his back and Kurt helped him sit up.
“What happened?” Kurt asked worried. Blaine looked at him still surprised and then at the open drawer of the one table. Kurt helped him up and he walked over to the drawer unsteadily. He looked inside and saw nothing. The necklace and his money was gone. He looked around and noticed the whole apartment was ransacked. Blaine bit back the tears and picked up the picture frame of him and Sebastian and threw it against the wall.
“Blaine? Calm down...please,” Kurt's scared voice said. Blaine turned around and glared at him. He saw the frightened look and looked down at the ground. He walked away and sank down into the old couch and put his hands to his face.
“What happened? Tell me?” Kurt asked.
“I was coming home and my door was opened. I peeked in and saw some guy in here going through my things. I came in after him and he hit me with something...”
“What did he take?”
“My money I was saving up and...the engagement ring Sebastian gave me...”
“Oh god...Blaine I'm so sorry...”
“How did you find me?” Blaine asked.
“I may have...followed you home one night...I was worried about you. You didn't come into work today and I grew concerned. I wanted to make sure you were safe...” Kurt said. Kurt came over and sat beside him warily.
“You have a boyfriend...you should be worried about him...”
“I know he's fine...but I knew you weren't and I just wanted to make sure you were...don't hate me for following you...”
“I don't...I'm just curious as to why you would care so much...”
“You're my friend Blaine and you've had it rough for a while and I just want to make sure you're okay...if you ever need anything I'll be here.”
“Thank you...” Blaine said.
“So, why don't we get your stuff packed and get you out of here?” Kurt asked. Blaine nodded and he packed up the little he had or wanted. He walked out with his duffel bag and waited for Kurt. When he came out they closed the door and went to the main desk. Blaine told the guy what happened but the man didn't want to hear any of it.
“It's $2,000 to end your lease early here,” the man said.
“The guy robbed me of it! I would have had it but I was robbed! You can check the door! The lock was broken.”
“Why didn't you report it last night?”
“I was hit over the head...don't you see the bruise?”
“Too bad kid...either pay up or go back to your apartment.”
“Here,” Kurt said handing the guy a check. Blaine looked at Kurt surprised and reached out for it.
“Blaine stop. I'll pay him so you can get out of here,” Kurt said. Blaine looked at the man who was smiling at the check.
“The extra should cover any other expenses you cheap assholes will charge,” Kurt said. He grabbed Blaine's hand and led him out into the city street.
“Kurt! That's too much money! You can't do that!”
“Relax! I have more than enough to help you out. You can pay me back when you're on your feet,” Kurt said. Blaine nodded and hugged Kurt tightly.
“Thank you...” he said. Kurt's arms wound around him and then let him go.
“You're more than welcome. Alright, let's go get my car and get you to my place,” Kurt said. Blaine smiled and followed him down the road and to where Kurt parked his car. In the spot sat a Dodge Challenger. Blaine whistled at the red sports car.
“What year?” he asked.
“Brand spankin' new. Just bought her last week. My other car broke down too much and so I moved on to this,” Kurt said. Blaine got in and looked around the inside. The car was amazing. Kurt drove them into a better part of Manhattan where the rich people lived. Where him and Sebastian had lived years ago. Memories slapped him in the face and he bit back the tears threatening to fall.
“Are you okay?” Kurt asked.
“Sebastian and I used to live in this area...I sold the apartment though...” Blaine said.
“I lived in a different apartment and moved to a new one because I was making more...” Kurt said. When Kurt pulled in the spot the Blaine and Sebastian used to park in his heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
“Blaine? Seriously you're scaring me...is it your head?” Kurt asked. He struggled to breathe at the thoughts racing through his mind and grabbed his bag. He shook his head and got out to get fresh air into his lungs. Kurt got out and ran to him and put his hands on his shoulders.
“What's wrong?” Kurt asked.
“What apartment are you?” Blaine asked.
“302...” Kurt replied confused. Blaine dropped his bag and stepped back.
“I can't go back there...” Blaine said.
“Blaine, what is it?”
“That was my apartment before I moved...” Blaine said. Kurt looked at him surprised and then understanding crossed his face.
“I'm so sorry Blaine...I didn't realize that was you...the landlord told me that the previous tenant lost his fiance and moved out. Just picked up and left. Sold the apartment and that's when I took it...” Kurt said.
“Can we go up?” Blaine asked. He didn't really want to go in but it was his place now until a steady income came in again and he saved up. Kurt nodded and held his hand out. Blaine took it and they walked up together. Kurt stopped in front of the door and let Blaine collect himself. Blaine nodded and Kurt opened the door. Blaine walked in behind and looked around.
It was the same place but newer. The walls were repainted a crisp blue color and white carpeting had replaced the old tan one. New furniture was set up and photos of Kurt and his friends and family he assumed were along the walls and tables. The windows remained the same though. They looked out into the city towards the sunset. You could only see it between the buildings but it was still amazing. Blaine smiled at the view he and Sebastian had looked out at so many times.
“I know I changed some stuff but I'm very big into making things look good and match and not that your stuff didn't but it didn't fit me...the kitchen was renovated and I had all of the rooms repainted except for mine...” Kurt said. Blaine looked back at him surprised. His bedroom. He'd forgotten that part. Blaine walked into the kitchen and looked at the modern update that had been done. Silver appliances in place of the old white ones.
Blaine had gotten Sebastian to break down and they were going to update the whole place but it had been too late. He ran from the kitchen to the guest room. He stood in front of the door afraid to open it. He slowly opened the door and looked in. The once green room was now a dark blood red color and again white carpeting had replaced the brown that was there.
“What did you do?” Blaine asked. Kurt walked in beside him and crossed his arms.
“I painted it to fit for my father and his wife to visit. The green wasn't my favorite color...”
“This room had recently been done before his death. We wanted a kid one day and decided we'd adopt and this was supposed to be the kid's room. It was a while off from when we'd have a kid but we knew we wanted one...we had just finished painting it too...”
“I heard. I want to have kids one day and decided I'd redo the room if the dream ever came true...” Kurt said. Blaine looked at him and sighed.
“Can I see the bedroom?” he asked. Kurt nodded and led him from the guest room. He closed the door and followed him down the hall to the master bedroom. The door was opened and he walked into the familiar room. The chocolate brown walls and the tan carpet were the same. The room was set up differently then when he had occupied it but it was still their room. He walked in further and touched the wall. He felt the tears leak from his eyes and he sighed.
“I kept the nightstands that were left...I loved them too much...” Kurt said.
“Thank you...for not changing this room...” Blaine said. Kurt nodded and he left the room before any other memories haunted him.
“Let's get you something to eat and then we can discuss living arrangements,” Kurt said smiling. Blaine nodded and followed him into the kitchen. He took a seat at the island as Kurt got some ingredients to make some food.
“Can you cook?” Kurt asked.
“Yep. Cooked better than Sebastian ever did,” Blaine said.
“Then I think things will go good,” Kurt replied.
The next few hours were spent eating and talking. They talked about what each other hated in a room mate and how to not step on the others toes. Blaine was happy to be with Kurt and happy to be back where he used to live. He just hoped he could sleep at night and avoid the master bedroom.
