The next day he got to take Blaine home. They rode with his parents to the apartment. Kurt held his hand tightly not wanting to let go of Blaine. Blaine had fallen asleep on the ride to their home. When they parked he woke Blaine up gently so he wouldn't hurt his side.
The walk up was slow but the elevator helped. Blaine wanted to walk but he was under orders to take it easy. Blaine hated it but he had to listen. Kurt unlocked the door to the apartment and led Blaine to the couch. He set it up and Blaine sat down. He got him a blanket from the cabinet in the guest room and laid it over him.
Blaine's mom had started looking around the apartment. She noted the changes to him and said they were good and fit the apartment well. When she saw the guest room her smile deflated. Kurt remembered what Blaine had told him about the room and slowly backed away.
“Stop.”
“Mrs. Anderson...”
“Kurt. It's Liza...”
“Okay...”
“You changed this room a lot...” she said.
“Blaine told me the story of the room.”
“Yes...I hoped he had. How do you feel about that.”
“About what?” he asked confused.
“Kids.”
Kurt's throat tightened. He'd actually never considered them an option or ever really thought he'd get married and have a family. As far as he was concerned, if he was still Leo he would make sure they never had kids. The thought of not having any though made him sad. He looked at the far wall and sighed.
“I never really...wanted any. I just saw myself in my bachelor pad and never...marry. If I had lasted with Leo I would never have had kids with him around. I would have said no. I know though that Blaine wants kids one day...sees himself having a big family. I accept that completely and I hope we're together to do just that,” Kurt said.
“Good. I'm glad to hear that,” she said smiling and hugging him. Kurt hugged her back and then they moved back out into the living room. Kurt went to the kitchen to start dinner and heard Blaine talking to his parents. A few minutes later Blaine's mom came into the kitchen and started to help him.
“It's okay Mrs. Anderson. I can take care of everything,” he said. She shook her head and continued to help him. He sighed smiling and continued. Dinner that night was stuffed shells and a salad. They all moved into the dining room and Kurt set the table. He helped Blaine into the dining room. They sat down to eat and Kurt felt as if he were going to be judged. Maybe they didn't like him...maybe Jennifer didn't want her son with him. After everything Blaine had gone through maybe she would deem him unworthy of Blaine. He felt like he was. Blaine was the best person he had met in a long time. Blaine made him feel loved. Made him feel sane.
“So Kurt, tell us about Blaine's CD. He won't talk much about it,” Blaine's father said.
“Oh...um...there's not much. We have about five songs ready to go. We just need to record and finalize the rest. The tracklist has been chosen. Did you tell them about your song?” Kurt asked.
“Nope...I was going to save that.”
“Well then, tell them,” Kurt said smiling. Blaine reached over and took his hand and held to it tightly.
“My first single will be on the radio soon. It's called Sideline, one that I wrote,” Blaine said. His mom smiled proudly and hugged him. She kissed his cheek and looked at Kurt excited. The rest of the dinner went by nicely. They were all talking about little things and Blaine told his mom how him and Kurt had been.
Kurt cleaned up dinner while they went into the living room. He was finally calming down from the interigation Blaine's father had given him over dinner. He smiled at the thought of him and his own father getting along very well. One day they would meet. When he put everything away and walked into the living room he saw Blaine going through a few boxes. He was pulling out photos and little knick knacks. He walked over slowly and sat by him. In his hands was a picture of him and Sebastian in matching Blazers.
“Is that from school?” Kurt asked.
“Yep, good old high school...”
Kurt placed a hand on his thigh comfortingly. It had to be taking a lot from Blaine to go through these items. Blaine looked the same but just a little younger in the photo. He was still cute and Kurt loved the photo. He went through the rest of them slowly. There were party photos, graduation, concerts, holidays, and just candid shots. One was both of them walking down the beach holding hands. Kurt loved the photo and looked at Blaine surprised.
“You like the beach?”
“I love it...that was our week vacation the summer after our freshman year. We were down in Virginia for a week. It was...amazing.”
“I'm glad you had fun. I haven't been on a vacation for so long...it'd be nice to go on one sometime.”
“Maybe we can once things settle down,” Blaine said smiling. Kurt kissed him as he went back to going through his things. Blaine started to pull out some books. He ran his hands over the covers and sighed. Kurt looked on curious as he went through some pages.
“These were our books for our classes when I was in school,” he explained.
“Do you want to go back?”
“It's too late now...if this singing job doesn't work out then maybe I will.”
“I think you would be a great lawyer...and we'll see what happens.”
His parents made their way to the guest bedroom leaving them alone. Kurt sat beside him as he finished going through the pictures.
“Are you going to put them up around the place?”
“No...I'm going to keep most of them packed up...this is our place and our future coming up. When we put pictures up I want them to be of us,” Blaine said placing a kiss on his cheek. Kurt smiled and they packed the box back up to go. He took Blaine's hand and they made their way to the bedroom for the night.
