“Okay, so who is he?”
“What are you talking about?” Kurt asked as she sat down.
“Well, you'd only call for a day out if something good happened or if you met a guy. And this coffee shop has been where you've told me about all of the guys you've gone out with.”
“Did you really keep track of this?” Kurt asked.
“Of course! When it's a good thing we go shopping. If it's guy talk, we're here,” she said shrugging like it was nothing. He laughed at her and shook his head.
“So! Who is he?”
“Someone I met at the bar by my apartment.”
“Oh, Kurt, sweetie you can do better than a bar.”
“You don't get it! He was...” And Kurt felt his smile fade as he thought about that night.
“What? Kurt? Is everything okay?” Rachel asked concerned. She leaned over the table and covered his hands with hers.
“He was a guest at my...almost wedding. He was with someone else whose date couldn't make it. I met him when I left the building and made my way towards my apartment. I went into the bar and sat down next to some guy. We started talking and he realized who I was...”
“Are you kidding?”
“No. He was a guest and he apologized for that assholes behavior. I said don't even and apologized for him coming to my wedding to only leave because of Ryan.”
“Wow...so he's a nice guy? He has to be since you called me!”
“He is. Last night was our first date. We've been meeting the past few Saturdays for drinks and he asked me out. I won't lie...I did run away when he first asked. I don't want to get hurt again Rachel...I don't want to be left alone once again...”
“If the shine in your eyes and that smile are any indication of how happy you are then I doubt he'd run away like Ryan. I haven't seen that since that night.”
“I know...he makes me happy. I called him back after a night of thinking and told him I'd go out with him. Well, last night was it and I had a really good time...”
“Kurt! I'm so happy for you honey! I need to meet him. Call him and have him join us. Now,” Rachel said sitting back.
“No, Rachel...I want to make sure we're going to be fine before anybody meets him.”
“Kurt, like I said, you look a lot better than that night and it's because of this guy. You haven't even told me his name!”
“Because, you'll go online and try to look him up and you'll ask around if anybody knows him.”
“I'm your best friend. It's my job to make sure you are happy and with somebody who makes you happy and can protect you. He needs my approval before you get serious. So, let's go! Call him!”
“Fine,” Kurt sighed and picked up his phone. A text was in his inbox so he opened it and read it.
'Look to your right'
Kurt looked up to his right and saw Blaine sitting at a table on the other side of the shop. He smiled over at him waved him over. Blaine looked hesitant but he got up and made his way over to them. Rachel looked up surprised and then looked at Kurt. Kurt stood up and took Blaine's hand in his.
“Rachel, this is Blaine Anderson.”
She stood up smiling and held her hand out to Blaine. He shook her hand and looked down at her. She looked Blaine up and down and crossed her arms.
“What do you do for a living?” she asked.
“I'm in law school. I currently have an internship with a law firm and I work at a book store.”
“Law school? Kurt, he's a keeper!” she said. Kurt rolled his eyes as he let Blaine's hand go and moved over to get a chair for Blaine. He brought it over and Blaine took a seat. Kurt sat down and their hands laced together.
“What do you do Rachel?”
“Well, currently, I play Elphaba on Broadway in Wicked. I haven't auditioned for anything else yet. I still have a while with this show,” she said as she sat down.
“That's great! I take it you've seen the show then?” Blaine asked turning to Kurt.
“Yes. I had to do an article on her and the show. I had to interview her too,” Kurt replied.
“That sounds fun! Where did you go to school?” Blaine asked Rachel.
“NYADA. Kurt was supposed to be there with me but he was still in New York and that's all that mattered,” she replied. Blaine nodded at her and they talked a little more about Broadway. Kurt smiled over at Blaine and couldn't help but love how he got along with Rachel.
“Why don't we go shopping Kurt? It's a nice day and we can hang out!”
“Actually, I need to get back to the book store. I still have a few hours to go. Do you think we could meet later tonight?” Blaine asked Kurt.
“Sure. You know where I live. Just let me know when you're on your way. I'll make dinner,” Kurt replied as they stood up. They walked out into the city and they walked with him down to the bookstore. They stopped outside of the shop and he leaned over and kissed Kurt's cheek.
“I'll let you know when I get out. It was nice to meet you, Rachel! I'll see you later, Kurt,” Blaine said letting go of his hand and walked into the building. Kurt sighed and wrapped his arms around himself.
“I like him Kurt. He's very sweet, goes to school, and works two jobs.”
“I know...but...”
“No buts, Kurt. He clearly adores you. His eyes shine and he couldn't stop smiling. He couldn't keep his eyes off of you either! If you have any doubts ever I will be here. Come on, let's go shopping.”
Kurt wrapped his arm through hers and they walked down the busy streets to the many shops they frequented. The whole time he hoped his fears would stay away and he could enjoy life.
Comments
Once bitten twice shy.. It's only natural for Kurt to be so wary. This was a lovely chapter. They are getting along so well and he also has Rachel's approval.
I agree! I'm in Kurt's shoes still to this day and it's been a while since I was hurt. Thank you so much! :)
