Kurt looked over at Blaine impatiently. They'd been driving for almost two hours already down into New Jersey. Blaine hadn't spilled as to where they were going. All he had said was that it was for Kurt's birthday.

“Would you calm down already? It's nothing big and we're almost there,” Blaine said. Kurt crossed his arms and sighed. He looked around at scenery as they drove down some back roads. There were a lot of horse farms in this area.

“We're here,” Blaine said as they turned onto a gravel drive. It led back to a big, light green farmhouse with a barn down in the back. Blaine parked his car and they both got out. A middle-aged man walked over to them. He was dressed in a suit and had both his hands in his pockets.

“Hey, Uncle James,” Blaine said. The man and Blaine hugged and Blaine turned to Kurt. The man held his hand out to Kurt and Kurt shook his hand.

“This is my boyfriend, Uncle James. Kurt, this is my Uncle James,” Blaine said. Kurt smiled at the man as he let his hand go.

“It's nice to meet you Kurt! Blaine, they're down in the back in the mare's barn. Your Aunt is down there. I have to take off for a meeting so I'll see you later,” James said. Blaine hugged him and then took Kurt's hand and led him down the gravel drive.

Blaine led him around to an open door of the barn. A man was walking by with a horse and another guy leading a foal. Kurt chuckled as the foal played around with the person leading it. Blaine shook his head and led him down the aisle. They came to the one corner and Kurt saw a woman coming out of the stall.

“Hi, Aunt Helen,” Blaine said. She turned around surprised and hugged Blaine. Kurt looked curiously at the stall because there was no horse in it and he heard some little whining noises.

“It's been so long! How are you? Who's this?” she asked looking at Kurt. He wrapped his arms around himself and waited for Blaine to introduce him.

“This is Kurt, my boyfriend.”

“It's a pleasure to meet you. Lola is in here with them. You two spend how long you want down here. I'll go make you two lunch!” the woman said smiling at them and then walking away. Blaine pulled him closer and he looked over the door inside the little stall to see a gorgeous black and white Siberian Husky. Around her were seven little pups playing and yipping at each other.

“Two of them already got a home. The rest are waiting to be taken. The one's with collars have an owner already. Those three don't have anybody yet,” Blaine said pointed to two black and white huskies and one tan one.

Blaine opened the door and walked into the stall. Kurt followed behind him and went in with him. Blaine kneeled down and the puppies started to jump at him. Kurt laughed at him as he played with them. Kurt kneeled beside him and one of the black and white puppies came over to him. It had light blue eyes with a playful glint in them. He scratched behind its ears and it moved closer to him.

“They're adorable,” Kurt said.

“Which one do you want?” Blaine asked. Kurt looked up at him surprised. Is this why he brought him all the way down here?

“What do you mean?”

“This is my birthday gift to you. I made sure your landlord would allow the dog in the complex. I paid the pet fee and made sure to contact my aunt to get one of them. You have choice of the last three.”

“Blaine...you didn't need to get me anything...”

“Yes. I did. It's also our one month,” Blaine said.

“Blaine...it's not our one month...”

“It's been one month since you changed my life. And it's your birthday. I had to get you something,” Blaine said kissing him gently.

“Romantic,” Kurt said smiling. Blaine shook his head and picked up two of the still homeless pups.

“This little one here with me is homeless. I'll take her...” Kurt said picking the puppy next to him up in his arms. Blaine put down his two and pulled out something from his pocket. It was a small purple and white checkered collar. He put it around her neck and they stood back up. Kurt scratched under the pup's chin as they left the stall.

“So, any ideas for her name?” Blaine asked.

“I want something to do with her eyes...” Kurt said.

“There's a lot that you can use for blue.”

“Cobalt...I've always liked that color...” Kurt said as he scratched her ears. She was climbing onto him and licking at his chin. They had lunch with Blaine's Aunt and then made their way back home. Blaine had a box made up for the puppy to lay in for the car ride. Kurt kept looking back to check on her but she was sound asleep the whole ride.

Kurt opened his apartment door and set his bags down by the door. Blaine had gotten him everything he'd need to care for her so he didn't have to do all the running. Blaine set the box down next to the couch and the puppy looked around curiously.

Kurt walked over to Blaine and wrapped his arm through Blaine's. Blaine smiled over at him and kissed his cheek. Kurt laid his head on Blaine's shoulder and sighed.

“Thank you,” Kurt said, breaking the awkward silence. Cobalt jumped out of her box and walked over to Kurt cautiously. He kneeled down and picked her up. He stood back up facing Blaine and kissed him.

“You're very welcome. I'm glad you like her.”

“I love her. You're amazing,” Kurt said.

“I know I am. You're amazing yourself. Look, I wanted to ask you something...I don't know how you're going to react so don't hate me okay?” Blaine asked.

“What is it?” Kurt asked.

“My older brother, Cooper, is finally getting married. I'm his best man and I wanted to know if you'd be my date. Cooper really wants to meet you,” Blaine said. Kurt looked at him confused. Should he go?

“Um...I don't know...I'd need to think about it.”

“Of course! I understand...you don't have to go if you don't want to. You could meet Cooper another time.”

“Let me think and I'll let you know,” Kurt replied. Blaine was cute when he got flustered and he did that a lot. Blaine moved over to the many bags and picked up the carrier he had brought up also. Inside lining the bottom were towels for Cobalt to lay on. Blaine put it in the corner of the room and Kurt put her in. Blaine left him to fill up her water and food bowl. Kurt took the bag of food back and put it in the spare closet.

“She's all taken care of for the night and you're probably heading to bed so I will take off now,” Blaine said putting his arms around Kurt's waist. Blaine rested his forehead against Kurt's and pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose.

“Stay for the night.”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course. I wouldn't offer if I didn't want you here,” Kurt said laughing. Kurt's hands rested on Blaine's hips and he kissed him.

“Happy one month,” Kurt said smiling down at Blaine.

“Happy one month.”

And as they laid down that night Kurt remembered what exactly this one month meant also. One month since he had been left. One month since Ryan had ruined his life. But one month since Blaine had managed to change his life. But still, his nerves were all over the place and it took him forever to fall asleep.

End Notes: Thoughts? :)
