“I was called for Sebastian Smythe...” he said trying to catch his breath.
“Of course...Diane! Take this young man back to Smythe, Room 202.”
A younger woman smiled at him warmly and led him through two big wooden doors. They walked down a crowded hallway and to a private room. Inside was Sebastian with tubes hooked up to him. He held his breath as he took in the sight of his ex. His face was sunken in at his cheeks and eyes. Bones were jutting out at his joints. He was so skinny a feather dropped on him would probably hurt him.
He walked in further and sat down beside him. He took his hand in his and looked at him worried. He was asleep which Kurt thought was a good thing but his eyes opened slowly when Kurt's hand wrapped around his. Sebastian's usual bright green eyes looked lifeless and unhappy. What had happened to him in the few weeks since he'd seen him?
“Hey...” Kurt said. Just then a doctor walked in and stopped at the end of Sebastian's bed. It was a middle aged woman who held a clipboard with Sebastian's papers.
“Mr. Hummel?” she addressed him. He nodded and she held her hand out to him. He shook it and looked back at Sebastian.
“What's wrong with him?” Kurt asked.
“He didn't tell you?” she asked concerned.
“No...I didn't know anything was wrong...”
“Mr. Smythe has advanced pancreatic cancer. When it was found it was too late to issue a treatment. He was told a few months ago to not expect anymore than six months to live,” she said. Kurt looked back at him surprised. That was when they had started fighting! Sebastian looked at him apologetically.
“I wanted...to tell you. I just...c-couldn't do it,” he said. Kurt held his hand tighter and kissed his knuckles.
“He took a turn for the worst a few hours ago and asked for you. Are you able to stay?” she asked.
“Yes...I'll be here. Can I ask though...how long do you expect him to last?” he asked scared of the answer.
“Not long...” she answered gravely. Kurt nodded dumbfounded and watched her go. He turned back to Sebastian and looked into his eyes. He looked beyond tired and a smile didn't play at his lips like when he always saw Kurt.
“I'm tired Kurt...I want...this to all...end n-now,” he struggled to say. Kurt shushed him and sighed.
“I will always love you Sebastian...please...don't say anything more. Save your energy,” Kurt said.
“I'll try...”
Kurt sat there beside him not moving an inch. He watched him sleep restlessly. He wished he could take some of the pain away but there was no way he could. Sebastian's eyes opened and looked at him. Tears started streaming down his cheeks and Kurt held his hand tighter. This couldn't be it...
“I love you...” Sebastian said.
“No...Sebastian! Don't!”
Sebastian's breathing grew ragged and slowed down. Kurt hit the emergency button freaking out. The heart monitors constant beeping turned into a flatline that kept echoing around him. A few doctors ran in yelling back and forth. The last thing he heard was time of death and then arms wrapped around him.
Blaine rushed through the busy streets. He'd been told he was sent here to protect by one of the higher beings of his world. They said to protect the one he loved or he'd be gone. He had been told by Kurt's neighbor that he had to go to the hospital that something was wrong. They were asked to watch Kurt's appartment until he got back.
Now, Blaine was running to get to the hospital to his love. He needed to know what was wrong so he could protect him. He should have been with him! He could have kept him safe! He got a taxi cab and told the old driver to get him to the hospital, it was an emergency. The man complied and drove as fast as he could.
As he pulled up outside the emergency room Blaine snapped his fingers but nothing happened! He cursed and pulled out his wallet and gave the guy some money he had in there. He ran into the hospital asking for Kurt. The nurses kept saying there was nobody registered with the name but he was in a room. Blaine said he was a cousin of Kurt's and was told to get here.
One of the nurses led him down the hall. He could hear the obvious sound of a flat line. He rushed down the hall and looked in. There stood Kurt with his arms wrapped around himself and tears falling down his porcelain skin. Blaine walked in slowly and wrapped his arms around Kurt.
“Blaine...” Kurt choked out. The arms wrapped around him tighter and he took in Blaine's scent. He needed him right now. They were ushered out of the room and into the hallway. Kurt looked back as they rolled the blanket up past the now peaceful face.
“It's okay...” Blaine said rubbing his hand up and down Kurt's back. He turned his head back into Blaine's shoulder and cried.
“I'm so sorry baby,” Blaine said. Kurt fisted his hands into Blaine's shirt and cursed whatever god there was for taking Sebastian away. He had so much potential and could have done so much but it was cut short.
“Sit down...” Blaine said leading him to some chairs. Kurt pulled away and looked at him through his tears. He blinked a few times to focus his vision. Blaine was looking at him worried and holding both of his hands.
“I thought that was you...” Blaine said.
“What?”
“I thought you were the one in that bed and leaving...I didn't know he had anything wrong with him...”
“Neither did I...he never told me...” Kurt said. Blaine placed a hand on his thigh to comfort him. Kurt sighed and looked down at the ground.
“Can we go?”
“Sure,” Blaine said standing up and holding a hand out for him. Kurt took it and they got a cab back to Kurt's place. When they walked in Blaine left him on the couch and he went into the kitchen. Kurt waited patiently for a few minutes and then Blaine came back. He had a cup of tea for Kurt ready and held it out to him.
“Thank you,” Kurt said smiling. Blaine simply nodded and sat down beside him. He laid next to Kurt as he drank his tea. Kurt was running a hand absently through the curls on Blaine's head.
“I love you,” Kurt said.
“I love you too,” Blaine replied. Kurt looked down into the hazel eyes and smiled.

Yes they love each other. So Blaine was sent back to protect Kurt? He snapped his fingers and nothing happened, is he becoming full human? This saysHe'd been told he was sent here to protect by one of the higher beings of his world. They said to protect the one he loved or he'd be gone.Or who'd be gone?
Basically if Blaine hadn't found Kurt and spent time with him, Kurt wouldn't be alive anymore...he saved Kurt :)
