Kurt sat down in one of the chairs in the auditorium where Blaine would be auditioning. Blaine hadn't told him what the song was but he knew it would be good none the less. Kurt had stayed with Blaine most of the past week. He was leaving next week for New York and they wanted to be together before he left. Cooper had asked Kurt if they could work on their relationship. Kurt had agreed and he still didn't understand why. A part of him still loved Cooper but everyday that love died more and more and grew for Blaine. He watched as this amazing boy walked across the stage to the center.
“Hello there. Name please?” A lady asked.
“Blaine Anderson,” he replied.
“Okay...and what song will you be performing with?” an older gentleman asked.
“I will be auditioning with “Breaking Your Own Heart” by Kelly Clarkson,” he said. Kurt sat up straighter and wondered what the song was about. He had never heard of it before but he knew who she was.
“Okay. Go on then,” the lady replied. Blaine nodded and grabbed a guitar from the band and sat on a stool.
“Shaking your head like it's all wrong. Before you're here you're already gone and even with the light all around you, you're all alone in the dark,” he sang. Kurt smiled at the voice that came from him. It was wonderful. It was smooth and never faltered and he was confident in himself.
“You're breaking your own heart taking it too far down the lonely road. You say you just want love but when it's close enough you just let it go. The very thing you've been the most afraid of, you've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart.”
Kurt looked up at the perfect man on the stool. This song was about them, about him, about him and Cooper. Kurt looked back down caught up in the lyrics.
“Too many tears, too many falls, it's easier here behind these walls. But you don't have to walk in the shadows. Life is so hard,” Blaine sang a little lower. So, yeah, Kurt had put up walls since his talk with Cooper and had become reserved but it was for the best. He'd chosen a few nights to be alone and not have to deal with either one of them but he needed time alone. He watched Blaine play the guitar and felt his heart constricting. Blaine had purposely done this. But, Kurt thought about it, he really was breaking his own heart. It wouldn't be anybodies fault but his own.
“You're breaking your own heart taking it too far down the lonely road. You say you just want love but when it's close enough you just let it go. The very thing you've been the most afraid of, you've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart.”
“You're breaking your own heart. It's not too late, I'm still right here. If only you'd let go of your fears,” Blaine's smooth voice sang out resonating through the auditorium. If only Kurt would let go of Cooper he'd be Blaine's and Blaine would be his one and only. But, Blaine said he'd always be here for Kurt waiting for him to drop Cooper.
“You're breaking your own heart. Taking your own heart down the lonely road. You say you just want love, but when it's close enough you just let it go. The very thing you've been the most afraid of you've been doing it from the start, breaking your own heart. You're breaking your own heart,” Blaine sang ending the song. Kurt watched him finish and the judges calculating him.
“Thank you, Mr. Anderson. If you are accepted you will receive a letter in the mail. Very nice performance by the way,” the lady in the center said. Kurt smiled knowing that meant something good. The same thing had been said to him and Rachel. They had both gotten into NYADA and Kurt wouldn't do anything to have it any other way. He met Blaine outside of the auditorium and hugged him tightly.
“You were amazing,” Kurt said as he held him. Kurt pulled back and grabbed Blaine's face and kissed him on the lips.
“Thank you...” Blaine said when they broke the kiss. Kurt ran his thumbs over Blaine's cheeks and smiled.
“I can't stand how amazing you are,” Kurt said.
“You're pretty fabulous yourself.”
“I can't wait for you to join me in New York.”
“There's no guarantees that I'm getting into the school,” Blaine said.
“How could they turn you away? You were fantastic!” Kurt said. Blaine smiled shyly at him and looked down.
“I hope I get in...I want to be with you from here on out,” Blaine said. Kurt felt his throat tighten and he looked down.
“I know...and I want you forever. I want you so bad, so much more than Cooper,” Kurt said. Blaine looked at him happily, love and excitement, in those hazel orbs. Kurt kissed him once more and held his hand tightly leading him out into the cold January air. One more week and he'd be on a flight back to New York. This next week would be the best for them. He'd make sure Blaine would be happy. He just didn't know if he could be.
