The next day Kurt spent his time writing up the contracts for work. He sent out emails and emailed Rachel to let him know what's going on with half of the people they have. Blaine had been right about the company going downhill. Quinn and him had been the only good ones on the label and Blaine had walked away leaving them with almost nothing.
That's why Rachel's dads had stepped in. They were helping to keep them afloat and make sure they could go on. Things were changing though and he had heard Rachel telling Quinn she might sell and see if a company would sign Quinn on. Berry Records had been big when Rachel's dads had once owned it and she had hoped to bring it back but it wasn't working.
When he went onto the one celebrity blog he kept up with Blaine was the first thing at the top of the page. He scrolled down seeing the photo of Blaine holding hands with some guy looking sober for once. The other guy was handsome, an actor if Kurt was correct, and was one of the most eligible bachelor's out there. Kurt stared in disbelief as he read the article.
'Musician Blaine Anderson with famous actor, Troy Hemsworth, out on the town and looking closer than just friends! He was seen exiting a club with him and then spotted at a diner together. Blaine hasn't looked this happy since he got to LA and it's about time! Rumors swirled around when Blaine came onto the scene that he was dating his manager, the talent scout known as Kurt Hummel, but the rumors were always denied. Blaine moving to LA only solidified that things were not good between them but it looks like he may have found his other half here in LA'
Kurt grew angrier and sadder with every word until he slammed his laptop shut. He sat back in his chair and took deep breaths hoping to calm himself down. He had always wondered what would have happened if he hadn't chose Blaine over Leo. Blaine would probably still have left but might not have hurt as much and he'd still have somebody in his arms. Then again, Leo never proved that he loved Kurt enough to stay with him. His phone ringing brought him out of the daze.
“Hello.”
“Kurt? It's Rachel! I have some amazing news for you!”
“What now?” he asked getting up and moving to his kitchen to get a glass of wine.
“Well, have you seen the latest headline on Blaine?”
“He's with someone new...I know,” he said biting his lip to stop the tears.
“Yes, well, I met this really nice guy through Quinn and we set you up on a date with him. Tomorrow, at the restaurant across the street from us he'll be there at six thirty for dinner. Be there!”
“No, Rachel! No blind dates! I'm not dating! I'm done!”
“Please, Kurt! He was left by his ex and he could use a good pick me up!”
“And what? Talk about how we were both left by our exes?! Yeah, perfect idea Rachel!”
“Kurt, he's a nice guy. You'll like him. I promise.”
“I had a nice guy...he turned out to not be so nice and I'm not doing it again.”
“Kurt! He's moved on! Why don't you? Find somebody who's going to treat like their world. Find someone you can hold and who can hold you.”
“That's what Blaine was for...for me. I'm not dating Rachel. End of discussion.”
“Blaine's gone Kurt...just meet this guy for lunch you won't be let down.”
“It's only lunch. Nothing more. I'm not dating him.”
“Stop holding out hope for Blaine! It's not going to happen.”
With that, Kurt hung up his phone and looked at the assortment of alcohol choosing his strongest.
“I'm no better than him now but I think this is called for,” Kurt said as he poured himself a cup and sat down on the couch. He put a movie in barely paying attention as he thought about Blaine's new life.
The next day he made his way over to the restaurant that he was supposed to meet this guy at. When he walked in a woman came up to him smiling.
“Hi Mr. Hummel! Please follow me, I'll take you to your table.”
Kurt smiled at her and followed her towards the back. He could see a guy sitting alone at a table with a glass of water. The woman set a menu down for him and left them alone. The man looked up at him. Piercing hazel eyes looked up into his eyes. The man had short light brown hair and a smile that lit up the whole room. He stood up reaching his hand out to Kurt's. Kurt shook it and felt his cheeks flush as the man moved over to pull his chair out.
“I'm so sorry! I never introduced myself. My name's Nick Hutin,” the man said.
“Kurt Hummel,” he replied smiling. Nick sat down across from him and they picked up their menus.
“Hi guys, my name's Tasha. What can I get for you to drink?”
“A bottle of your best wine. Is that okay Kurt?” Nick said.
“Perfect. Thank you,” Kurt replied. The woman left and a few minutes later came back with the bottle. She poured them some as they placed their orders. She left them alone and Kurt looked up to the TV that was on.
“I can't stand that man,” Nick said. Kurt looked at it confused and then saw the videos of Blaine with Troy. He felt his throat tighten and the tears threatening to overflow.
“Why?”
“He acts like he's a hot shot and he's had one successful CD. He needs to grow up and stop partying. Oh no, please don't tell me you're an avid fan of his...”
“Actually, no. I'm not. I did date him though...things didn't work out.”
“Rachel told me you managed some big people but I didn't know he was one! And you dated him?”
“Yes. He saved me from a bad relationship and I saved him from himself. He got a bigger offer and took it without talking to me. I gave him his ring and told him to leave. It's been two years and since then I've watched him stumble through life, drunk all of the time and partying. Then, yesterday, I saw him with this new guy...”
“I'm so sorry Kurt...if this is too much just let me know.”
“It's not you, it's Quinn and Rachel, especially Rachel. She keeps telling me to move on. It's hard though. I thought we were a team and I thought we would last...then he screwed up. I would have gone but...I couldn't leave Rachel...”
Their dinner arrived and they ate in silence. Nick would ask questions about Blaine but he still never liked him. He said once the kid got to LA he turned into a cocky asshole and couldn't stand him. Kurt laughed at his comments on a lot of celebrities and found himself enjoying the evening.
Nick left him at his apartment with a kiss on the cheek and promising to visit him at work one day. Kurt smiled at the thought and walked into his apartment. He sat down to watch the news and during the entertainment portion Blaine's new single was announced.
“Tomorrow, up and coming singer Blaine Anderson will release the first single from his sophomore album. The song is called Forever and already people are raving about it. The record label he's with has been able to prevent the song from leaking. Tomorrow everybody! Can't wait to hear the song,” the woman said and then moved on to another part of the segment. He turned the TV off and went into his bedroom changing and laying down on Blaine's side of the bed and cried.
