Author's Notes: Hi! So, I had the worst writers block on this story for such a long time, but I read over it again and I've fallen in love with it again and now these characters are banging away as persistent as ever. I'll try and update regularly, I already have the next chapter!
“Blainey! Dinner’s ready” Blaine picked himself up from his bed where he was quietly strumming away on his guitar and followed the screeching abruptness of his sisters voice. He took a seat at one of the two places at the dining room table, their fathers were out for the night at some work dinner so Rachel had been left to make some undoubtedly uninteresting vegan meal that Blaine could slowly pick apart.

“Rach is that meat?” his eyes widened at the plate she set in front of him.

“Well it doesn’t really take much for me to put one steak under the grill for my dearest brother now does it” her voice dripping sickly sweet she sat in front of her own plate full of vegetables and rice across from him.
“Juice?”

“You don’t drink grape juice, you’re purely an orange girl.” his eyes narrowed as she poured him a glass and shook her head.

“Blaine, please, less talking more eating, oh and save room there’s chocolate pudding for dessert.”

Blaine dropped his fork on the table where it clattered loudly against his knife.“Okay Rach cut the crap, what is it?” he sighed folding his arms and settling back in his chair. She looked at him with a hurt expression.

“Blaine can’t your sister just do something nice for you for once?”

“Rach last time you cooked me dinner and I asked for meat you practically tied me to a chair and showed me YouTube video’s of animals being tortured…also Bambi.” he looked at her shuddering as the memory came flooding back to him.

“Fine! I’m bribing you. Happy now?” she huffed meeting him with the same cross armed defiant look across the table.

“I knew it. So what is it?” he grinned triumphantly and started tucking into his steak waiting for an answer. There was silence for a few moments. “It’s Kurt.” Blaine immediately stopped chewing, his face flushing unexpectedly, the sound of that one syllable word making his heart pound uncomfortably against his chest.

“What about him?” Blaine asked, carefully not making eye contact.

“Why don’t you tell me? You seem to be spending an awful lot of time together lately.”

“Well we’re duet partners, we’ve been practicing. Besides you were the one who told me to make friends at McKinley.”

“Yes but not with my best friend!” Rachel’s voice took on that whiney quality and she screwed her nose up as she looked into Blaine’s eyes deploringly.

“So I can’t be friends with Kurt because he’s your best friend? Why have you never been able to share with me?”

“Ugh Blaine that’s not it, it’s perfectly wonderful that you’re friends with Kurt, goodness knows he needs another gay friend around. I’m just worried that you’re friendship is beginning to become something other than platonic okay?”

Blaine mused over this in his mind for a minute, he hadn’t thought of Kurt in that way. Kurt was going through a hard time, he was being bullied left and right and Blaine was in the position of being a good friend to Kurt, nothing else. He decided to tease Rachel a bit though, that was always fun.

“And would that be so bad? Think about it your brother and your best friend. I mean of course we’d only ever sing together and if he came over it would never be to see you but other than that it’d be perfect.” he smiled as he chewed a piece of potato looking at her horrified expression. Blaine doubted that if he and Kurt were to get together that would happen anyway, but Rachel needn’t know that.

“But Blaine he was my friend first! This is so unfair, I love you both so much but if you go out and then you break up what if you hate each other? Kurt will never want to come over and you’ll both be uncomfortable and what if I have a really important show you both need to come to and you don’t because you might see each other? You guys are so selfish!” It was when Rachel’s voice finally took on a pitch that would shatter glass that Blaine held his hands up in a mock salute.

“Okay wow, I was just kidding, but it’s great to know that if I wasn’t you’d be super supportive” he drawled sarcastically. He was keeping the mood bright but for some reason he felt a twinge of annoyance at his sister. Would she really be that unsupportive? After everything Blaine and Kurt has been through what if they did like each other and want to date? Only to be held back by Rachel. It was unfair.

“Oh, well, that was mean! Now I seem like a bitch” Rachel stabbed her fork into a piece of potato and shoved It into her mouth chewing angrily.

“Yeah, you do.” Blaine looked at her hurt expression and the tension left his body. “Rach I’m sorry it’s just, Kurt and I are getting along really well okay? He’s a great friend, but you won’t lose him, or me. He just, needs someone besides you and Mercedes. Someone he can relate to. Can’t you be happy for him?” She looked at him with a sad expression.

“Of course I can, I guess I just forget sometimes, how hard it is for him. And for you too, I think you need this friendship just as much as him.” She began eating her dinner properly and that was that, the conversation quickly turned back to Rachel as she discussed her ever changing relationship with Finn and how she kept finding him secretly talking to Santana and what did that mean? But Blaine zoned her out as his head whirled with a flurry of new thoughts and emotions. He hadn’t realized before his sister had said it that he really actually did need Kurt, and the thought, it really scared him.
