Author's Notes: i know WHAT AN INGENIOUS IDEA FOR A CHAPTER NAME, i still get all emotional over the scene in NBK so it holds a special place in my Klaine heart.this chapter follows canon from before Blaine was on the show but it's AU so it's allowed too. read and review, i love feedback! :D if i don't write before then, HAPPY NEW YEAR! i'll see you with more updates in 2012!
Kurt walked into Glee club that day just in time to immediately have Rachel pulling on his arm and pushing him into a chair.
“Now that Kurt has finally joined us, we can start!” she shot Kurt an impatient look that he met with an equally terrifying bitch stare until she looked away.
“Is Mr Schuester sick again?” Mercede’s asked “Because I’d rather Ms Holiday than you, no offence Rachel.”
“Whatever, I mean offence, what do you want Yentl?” Santana drawled, fleetingly looking up from filing her nails.
“Guys, let Rachel speak its important” Mr Schuester suddenly appeared from his office and took a seat next to the piano.

“As I was saying, I am both proud and excited to be the one to introduce to the Glee club, Blaine Anderberry, my brother!” she squealed the last part and jumped up and down as Blaine appeared from behind Kurt.
“Wait was he there the whole time?” Artie looked on with a confused look.
“I thought Rachel had just split into a boy and a girl” Brittany whispered from next to him.
Kurt’s heart raced a little as he watched Blaine walk timidly up to stand beside his sister who immediately grabbed a hold of him, beaming at everyone else in the Glee club.

“Now everyone he is younger than me so don’t expect him to be able to quite live up to my talent yet. But, he is exceptionally wonderful and of course we sound wonderful together.” she said the last bit with a sparkle in her eye giving Blaine an extra hard squeeze.
“Thanks Rach but I think I can take it from her” he smiled at her as she reluctantly got pulled down into her seat by Finn.

“Hi everyone, yes I am Rachel’s brother, no I’m not exactly like her. I don’t expect you to just let me join your club, I know you guys are all really close and I don’t want to intrude, so I thought I’d sing you a bit of a song, to ease myself in a little better.”

He winked at the band and they started playing, Kurt couldn’t take his eyes off of Blaine as he danced his way around the room singing Teenage Dream, Katy Perry had nothing on him, and Kurt couldn’t mistake the fact that Blaine had indirectly directed “let you put your hands on me, in your skin tight jeans, be your teenage dream tonight” at Kurt. When he did Kurt felt his heart drop to somewhere in the bottom of his stomach and he couldn’t wipe the smile off of his face.

It also didn’t help that Blaine sang like a dream. His voice was definitely different to Rachel’s, but it was just as powerful emotionally. Just hearing one song and Kurt was already addicted, the way Blaine swooped over notes and phrases with such ease, all the while completely drawing in the audience with the way he carried himself, an air of confidence and charm. Even the straightest of boys and the gayest girls would get drawn in Kurt thought to himself. Kurt clapped enthusiastically along with everyone else once Blaine had finished blushing slightly as Blaine’s eyes drifted over him, a smile on his lips. “Definitely a Teenage Dream” Kurt thought. Even his thoughts were beginning to sound terribly clich when Blaine was involved. But as he held eye contact with him for the briefest of moments he thought that the embarrassing thoughts were the least of his problems when Blaine smiled like that.

“Thank you Blaine, I’m sure everyone is more than willing to accept you into the New Directions! There is definitely a place for you” Mr Schuester walked up behind Blaine, patting him on his back as he took a seat next to Rachel.
She swiftly kissed his cheek and started talking a million miles a minute about possible duets for the future and for sectionals and how they can rehearse as soon as they get home in their dad’s Oscar party room and did he mind singing something other than Katy Perry because he was sheltered as an artist if that was all he did. The whole time this was going on Blaine had been simply smiling and nodding in the right places to make it seem as though he was listening. Kurt thought he was the only person who got this right, everyone else nodded at the wrong time and Rachel would catch on, instantly whining about how no one ever listened to her and she was never properly recognized as the person who carried this team and how she was under appreciated and if you hadn’t been listening by this point you would definitely not be listening by now.
He was aware after a few seconds of thinking about Rachel’s particularly annoying features of a pair of eyes focused on him; it took him a second to realize that they belonged to Blaine. He jumped as his eyes focused properly on Blaine’s face. Blaine was looking at him enquiringly; raising his eyebrows at him, his mouth turning into a slight smile. Kurt merely smiled at him and finally drew his eyes away and focused on whatever Mr Schue was talking about.

He was aware however, out of the corner of his eye Kurt was aware of Blaine’s eyes still lingering on him, he was aware of the way his skin prickled under his gaze and he was especially aware of how it was un-lingering for the rest of the Glee Club rehearsal. His heart quickened as he took his time reaching down to pick up his bag, he was vaguely aware of Mercede’s telling him she’d call him that night, he instead trained his ears on Rachel and Blaine.

“Blaine, I was going to go back to Finn’s house for a little while, is that okay? I can cancel and come home with you instead, we’re going to be partners right? For this week’s assignment?” Kurt rolled his eyes; even without looking at Rachel he could see the pleading look in her eyes. He picked up a book and pretended to read it.

“Uh it’s fine Rach, and I, wait what assignment?”
“Blaine! Do not tell me that you didn’t pay attention?! It was your first Glee Club lesson!” Rachel scolded him. “We’re meant to get into pairs and sing a duet and I was going to go with Finn bu-“
“OH! No go with Finn, definitely. It’s no problem, we always sing together anyway, I should, ask someone else. You know mingle a bit. Uh, so anyway, you should go over to Finn’s house, now and practice. Right?” Kurt could hear a little bit of desperation in Blaine’s voice. He was trying to get rid of Rachel. Kurt had heard it before with countless other people.

“Well if you’re sure, of course I have the perfect song for Finn and I. It’s going to be romantic and fun, so people can see that ever after everything we a-“
“Rachel, Finn’s been waiting for nearly ten minutes.”
“Oh, right. See you at home Blainey. Bye Kurt!” Rachel hurried out of the door singing to herself.

Kurt finally closed the book he’d been staring at and placed it into his bag, he stood up and came face to face with Blaine.
“Hello” he blushed as he looked straight into his eyes, blue eyes unwaveringly latched onto gold.
“Hi” Blaine smiled at him warmly, his eyes ghosted over Kurt’s lips fleetingly and Kurt felt his heart race, the sound reverberating in his ears.
“Blainey?” Kurt teased, stepping past Blaine and leaning against the piano. Blaine ducked his head and his cheeks flushed a slight pink colour.

“She called you Kurtsie once in conversation; she has a thing for cute pet names.” Blaine smirked at him as Kurt rolled his eyes. “So, I heard that we have a new assignment, duets?” he took a step towards Kurt.
“Yes I heard that too.”

“Well, considering I was there the whole time, I know for a fact that no one asked you, so I know for a fact that if you say no to me when I ask you, it must only be because you know that if we work together I’ll probably outshine you.” Blaine stopped a few steps away from Kurt, daring him to make the next move. Kurt took a second to gather himself and to drag his eyes away from the way Blaine’s shoulders looked in his tight sweater and how nice it would feel to be held in his arms.

“Well that must be why I am saying yes. Because I know for a fact you will not outshine me at all.” Kurt teased from his spot next to the piano.
“I have the perfect song, its fun, flirty, everyone will like it.” Blaine’s face darkened at the word flirty and Kurt looked deep into his eyes.

“Well, meet me in here tomorrow after school and we can start working on it. Have a good night Blaine” with one last playful smile Kurt dragged himself from the choir room and made his way to his car. He couldn’t wipe the smile off of his face as he replayed the flirty experience he’d just had. He couldn’t believe it, a guy, no, a gorgeous guy was flirting with him. It was almost too good to be true he thought as he got into his car. It probably is too good to be true. His smile faltered as he thought back to all the times he’d done this, fallen in love with a boy after a few conversations.
Even though it felt different with Blaine and he knew he was gay, he couldn’t let the humiliation he’d felt with Finn and Sam just a few weeks earlier happen to him again. He sighed heavily and tiredly as he started his car. He wouldn’t read into it. He’d sing the duet with Blaine and that was all. He wouldn’t think about Blaine romantically, because how on earth was anyone supposed to think about him Kurt Hummel anyway other than the gay kid you were meant to feel sorry for.
