Kurt suddenly felt a twinge of hope and exuberance as Blaine's words struck with an unexpected boldness. "Yea… Well there's this guy..." He remarked in a flirtatious tone that made Kurt's heart skip a beat. He couldn't help but wear a modest grin as a shade of pink slowly crept upon his porcelain complexion. Was this going to be the moment that Kurt relished for so long? The moment where Blaine would express his irrevocable love for Kurt? He didn't want to get his hopes up too much for them to be crushed again. Kurt wouldn’t be able to handle the rejection. With the many coffee dates, flirty smiles and winks, and in depth conversations, they both knew their relationship would lead up to something more than friends. Kurt knew it, and he hoped that he wasn't taking signals from the dark haired boy the wrong way.
Kurt had known Blaine for quite some time now, even though they went to two completely different schools. Since the moment he met the extremely attractive Anderson, he had been head over heels in love. Kurt will never forget the day he met Blaine on the infamous staircase.
It was one afternoon when the New Directions sent Kurt to spy on their intense competition, The Warblers at Dalton Academy. Kurt tried his best to coordinate the distinguished and unique assigned Warbler’s uniform with something in his vast wardrobe. Surprisingly, Kurt couldn’t find anything remotely close to blend into the crowd; so therefore, he stuck out like a sore thumb. Not only that, but there was a tremendous crowd of students ascending down the staircase to try and witness something occurring within the school. This was a terrible start to a terrible attempt at getting information on the Warblers.
Completely lost and confused, Kurt tapped the shoulder of one of the boys in front of him. The boy that turned around was lord and behold, Blaine Anderson. His eyes, a beautiful auburn and his hair, dark and curly tamed with gel. They introduced themselves with conversation that flowed freely with slight flirtation. Suddenly, Blaine took Kurt’s hand, and they rushed through a secret shortcut to the Senior Commons where the Warbler’s would soon be performing. As soon as they got there, Blaine sang Teenage Dream as his eyes stared into Kurt’s and his flawless voice harmonized to the over popularized Katy Perry tune. It was as if Blaine was performing this song just for Kurt, but indeed there were tons of Dalton students there.
After the performance, Blaine along with Wes and David went out for coffee with the “new kid’. As their conversation trailed along, Kurt was in disbelief by how welcoming and pleasant the boys were. Especially, Blaine, who kept giving him welcoming smiles and coy winks. Kurt was beginning to like this boy, but someone like Blaine was probably in a relationship already.
He was never treated this way before by any of the students at McKinley. Not including any of the Glee Club kids that is, but even they got pretty annoying and aggressive at times.
‘They have to be gay.’ Kurt thought to himself. ‘I know no other boys that would be so eager to get to know me and not question doing so because of my sexual orientation. (Kurt hated to think of himself as a stereotype, but sadly, he knew that he made it pretty obvious. Before he came out to his family and friends, he was bullied by all of the jocks and given pitiful stares and slurs. Everyone knew he was gay, and it was just a matter of time before he began to embrace it.) This would never occur at McKinley.’
So Kurt said what was on his mind, by questioning the group of Dalton boys if they were indeed gay. After Kurt asked them, doubtfulness flooded throughout him and he wondered why the hell he would even ask a question like that. First of all, it was none of his business. Secondly, it sounded extremely absurd the more he thought about it. This wasn’t like Kurt to completely let his guard down and speak his mind. With all of the day-to-day bullying that was being inflicted upon him, he was losing his confidence and gradually withering down to the core.
The whole group laughed lightheartedly which made Kurt unravel a bit of his nerves that were so tightly wound up inside of him. Kurt looked for an answer in either of the boys’ eyes.
“No! I mean I am, but these two have girlfriends!” Blaine answered swiftly with a charming laugh as he pointed to both Wes and David. The two friendly boys went on to explain how Dalton has a zero tolerance harassment policy; therefore, you could be whoever and whatever you wanted without being taunted for it.
With that, Kurt’s eyes were beginning to well up with tears that became more difficult to hold back as he thought about how much he hated Karofsky for making his life so miserable. Why did people like Karofsky have to exist? Why couldn’t everyone embrace each other for who they were without being harassed for it? Kurt hated how his life was beginning to unfold right before him, yet he felt there was nothing he could do about it.
As Blaine saw Kurt begin to fall apart at the seams, he asked Wes and David if he could have a little one on one with helpless boy. Wes and David exchanged nods and politely said goodbye to Kurt.
Kurt began to explain how he hated McKinley because every day he was criticized for who he was since he was the only ‘out of the closet’ teen at the biased school. The bullying was beginning to take a terrible toll on him since one of the bullies, Karofsky, was making it his mission to turn Kurt’s life into a living hell. He let a tear fall down his red stained cheek.
Why was he letting his faade down in front of a boy he just met? It just was showing Blaine how weak he was and pushing him away even further. Why would anyone like Blaine want to be in a relationship with someone as feeble as Kurt?
Relationship? Wow, where did that come from?
Blaine shook his head sympathetically. The Dalton boy began to explain that before transferring to Dalton, he was tormented at his old high school. When he went to go confront the faculty about his problem, they seemed sympathetic, but didn’t do anything about it. So, he left, and came to Dalton Academy.
Blaine mentioned how he would love for Kurt to enroll at Dalton to escape the bullying, but tuition was pretty steep, and not everyone was in the right economic situation to come join. Although, Blaine suggested that Kurt could refuse to be the victim and confront his bullies because that is what he wishes he had done. Blaine ran, and every day, he regretted it.
When Kurt came home that day from his failed mission at Dalton Academy, he begged Burt and Carol countless numbers of times for him to enroll there. Sadly, money was tight for the two of them, so they wouldn’t be able to afford the tuition and boarding at the pristine school. So, Kurt was left with the second recommended option: refuse to be the victim and confront his tormentors.
Without Blaine’s advice, Kurt would have ever mustered the courage to confront Karofsky to stop all of the verbal and physical attacks. To his surprise, the Neanderthal finally ended the bullying altogether after the terrifying blowout. The only people that dare do anything harmful to Kurt were Karofsky’s moronic followers. He had finally set Karofsky in his place, but Kurt was surprised and impressed that he was the one to do so.
Everyone else would say things got better because Kurt finally took charge of the abuse, but Kurt would say that Blaine made all the difference. Blaine would send texts to Kurt saying “COURAGE” and have pep talks with him when they saw each other.
Luckily, things at school were beginning to take a turn for the better. The daily slushy was only occurring once a month. The abundant amount of bone-crushing shoves against his locker only happened once a week (and never seemed as painful.) The perturbing slurs were gradually decreasing and barely went noticed due to Kurt’s growing confidence.
Kurt felt so lucky to have met a person like Blaine to keep him strong through the petrifying times in his life. He felt so comfortable around Blaine, and they practically spent all of their free time together at the Lima Bean, just talking about anything and everything. Kurt realized that Blaine was a big flirt. No, he was a MAJOR flirt. Kurt wanted to believe that Blaine only flirted with him because he was falling deeper in love with the boy whenever they would see each other. To say Kurt had a crush on Blaine would be an understatement. He was all Kurt thought about.
When those breathtaking hazel eyes first laid eyes on Kurt's, his heart had been doing backflips. All he could think about was those beautiful hazel eyes that reminded Kurt of pools of glimmering gold. His welcoming warm smile that left Kurt vulnerable and seemed to make him melt from the inside out. His dark, tight curls that caressed his face that Kurt so desperately wanted to reach out and tousle. Those supple, kissable lips that he just couldn't bare see alone without his. The way they both conversed with each other was so saccharine sweet, all of Kurt’s friends at McKinley only questioned themselves why they weren't a couple yet. Kurt had Blaine on his agenda, and soon it would become unhealthy until they were in some type of established relationship. Kurt just hoped that his hormones wouldn't get the best of him. Did Blaine feel the same way that Kurt felt about him?
"Oh really Blaine? I'm surprised! You've never talked about a significant other before. Do tell!" Kurt responded with a playful smile. "I mean tell me, what is this boy like?" Kurt exclaimed as flirty and enthusiastic as possible.
"Well..." Blaine trailed off with a smirk on his face and a sparkle in his eye. "He has the boldest blue/green eyes that I have ever seen. They leave me in complete awe every time I gaze into them. It's like being put under an enchanting spell." Blaine stated with that beloved smile that charmed Kurt time and time again. As Kurt saw that Blaine Anderson smile widen, it led to a fiercer blush radiating off of Kurt's cheeks. Blaine laughed and looked down at his feet. This boy had blue/green eyes... interesting. Oh how Kurt wanted to believe that Blaine was talking about him.
Blaine continued on. "He also has this adorable smile that leaves me breathless. It's so enticing and beautiful..." Blaine trailed off again, but looking straight into Kurt's eyes with what he thought was infatuation. Kurt felt so stupid, but he couldn’t help but wipe away the Cheshire grin that was embroidered on his face.
"...And his personality, so charming and lively. It makes me want to be with him even more than I can withstand." Blaine continued deep in thought, staring straight into Kurt's aquatic eyes. Kurt now sat there on the edge of his seat, feeling as if his lungs were being constricted by his speechless and astonished state. He was practically leaning inches away from Blaine's angelic face. Kurt was surprised that rapture didn't consume him to the point where he would kiss Blaine right there on the spot. He could smell the aroma of Blaine's cologne fuming from him, making Kurt feel more light-headed than he thought was possible.
"You should see the way he dresses with such style and originality. He belongs on the cover of a vogue magazine." Blaine chuckled now, and Blaine seemed to stare deeper through the brunette haired boy’s eyes. Kurt knew that he was talking about him, from the shade of his eyes to the style of clothing. (Outside of Dalton, of course) He just wanted Blaine to state his name. Just hearing his name being announced from the lead soloist's mouth would make Kurt realize this was indeed reality, not just a wonderful dream.
"Come on tell me! What is this guy's name? He seems to be perfect for you!" Kurt shrieked, not being able to contain the butterflies that fluttered around wildly in his stomach. Blaine's grin seemed to grow wider by the second and lust flooded through his chestnut eyes. Since only inches separated them, Kurt could feel Blaine's hot breath gust on his face as he laughed again. Kurt almost fainted by how light-headed he felt. Kurt couldn't believe this was happening; it was too good to be true. He felt his stomach go in a knot as it did somersault after somersault.
"Oh his name?" Blaine questioned as sudden panic quivered his features. What if Kurt didn't like Blaine that way? He couldn't handle rejection from the one he truly adored and cared for since the beginning. Or what if Kurt did actually like him more than a friend? Was he better off making up a pseudo love interest or telling Kurt the truth? The silence lingered on for what it felt like hours. Abruptly, Kurt started to get nervous too, as he let that feeling be known on his face. Abruptly, Kurt broke the silence.
"Blaine, are you okay?" Kurt questioned the other boy from across the table. Blaine suddenly silenced the argument that went back in forth in his mind. He shook he head slightly. "Yeah. I'm fine!" Blaine tried to say enthusiastically, to reassure Kurt that there was nothing to worry about. However, there was something extremely crucial to worry about. What was Blaine going to say to the boy of his dreams?
"So... Who's the guy?" Kurt asked eagerly with a smirk. Blaine thought that his brain might short circuit from all of the pressure building up from this question. With his decision made up to how he was going to answer Kurt, Blaine opened his mouth with the answer that might make or break their relationship.
