“Then he told me that he would rather jump in that lake then take what he thought was coming to him!” Blaine told Kurt, finishing the line to one of his jokes. Kurt laughed instantly as if it were the funniest thing in the world, which it obviously wasn’t but for some reason Kurt always felt extra giddy around Blaine Anderson. More than any other person in his life, and definitely more than any girl. Everything he said made his emotions go wild, and Blaine loved it. He loved the sound of Kurt’s laugh, it was infectious and beautiful. Everything about Kurt was beautiful. He had always been gorgeous even when they were kids, but now he had grown into his features perfectly. Even though he was only 16 he passed for 20 all the time. He was also a couple inches taller than Blaine, he didn’t really care that much but people seemed to think it was a huge difference when they were next to each other.
Blaine sat down at a local café that they had walked to and motioned for Kurt to do the same. They did this often, they went to different places and acted as friends, even though Blaine felt more. Blaine and Kurt had grown up as best friends since they were 3, they were much older now and Blaine still thought that Kurt was the most amazing person to walk this earth. And Kurt had to like Blaine, right? I mean it was no shocker that they were both gay, they had liked other boys in the past and talked with each other about it. But this is different, this was them. And today was the day, today Blaine was going to tell Kurt that they were perfect for each other! He was just incredibly nervous, and felt like puking all over this little café table. Oh gosh, what would happen if he-
“Blaine? Blaine, are you okay? You don’t look so good..” Kurt reached out his hand and set it on top of his, like fire and ice. Kurt was always so warm, even in the cold months of December, and Blaine was always cold, whether he liked to admit it or not.
“Yeah, yeah.. I’m uh- I’m fine. I’ve just got some things on my mind.”
“Well, do you wanna talk about it? Things are never best built up inside, that’s why you should always share with your best pal. That’s what my-“
“-Your mom would always say, yeah.” Blaine said finishing his sentence for him. Kurt quoted his mother all the time, and Blaine didn’t have a problem with it. In fact he liked it, he loved Queen Elizabeth as much as the next person, if not more. She was like a second mother to him, she had always accepted everyone for who they were, not whom they were supposed to be. But she had passed away almost a year ago, she had gotten super sick and none of the King’s doctors could heal her. The kingdom mourned for months and certain people still have yet to get over it, the queen brought light to the kingdom. Kurt bowed his head and slowly pulled his hand back. Before he could get it back to his side though Blaine grabbed it, “I’m sorry Kurt. I just- like I said, I just have a lot on my mind. But let’s talk about something else!”
Kurt looked into Blaine’s eyes and searched for something more than what was on the surface. Kurt knew Blaine was hiding something, but he didn’t want to push. Now wasn’t the time, when they were out in public. Kurt had learned from past experiences that he needed to be on his best behavior when he went out into the village to see his people and visit with friends, he did one small, little thing wrong and everyone looked down upon him. Well, not everyone, just the ones who weren’t okay with who Kurt was.
“Sure, did you have anything in mind?”
“Well,” Blaine began, this was his chance and he better take it, “I did actually. You know how we’ve been together our whole lives right?” Kurt nodded in agreement.
“And you know how I will always be there for you, because you’re my best friend and I love you right?”
Kurt nodded again, but now looked a little more worried.
“What are you getting at, Blaine?”
“Well, it’s just that.. I mean, I- You’re just so.. And I..”
“You’ve always had such a way with words, Anderson.” Blaine was cut off by Sebastian, not for the first time in his life.
“Sebastian!” Kurt leapt up and gave his friend a hug. “I haven’t seen you in months, I didn’t know you were coming here! Why are you here? Not that I’m not excited!”
“Settle down, Kurt!” Sebastian chuckled. “Father had some business with your father, something about some man threatening something.. I’m not exactly sure. But I’m here!” Sebastian said and said down at the table Kurt and Blaine were currently residing at.
“Great” Blaine whispered under his breath.
“I’m sorry Blaine, you had something to tell me.” Kurt looked at Blaine. Blaine could never figure out how Kurt did it, by just looking into his eyes Kurt could make everyone else go away. He could make it so that he and Blaine were the only people in the whole wide world, that just added to the things that amazed Blaine.
“No, no please.. You two catch up. I actually have to get going, but Kurt.. I’ll uh- see ya later then?” Kurt nodded with a smile and waved as Blaine walked away, then turned back to Sebastian conversing immediately.
“So where have you been? What’s been going on?” Kurt was so excited to see his old friend again, they didn’t get to see each often.
“Well like I said, I’m here now because of father. But Kurt I have wanted to come for so long.. I’ve tried to write letters and I’ve tried to come on my own but they’ve never worked out..” Kurt could tell that he was now getting a little flustered.
“Seb, what are you talking about?”
“Well, I just really wanted to tell you something, Kurt.” Sebastian looked down at his feet, wondering what the best way to go about this was. He decided to let Kurt say the next word so they sat there for a couple seconds until Kurt got the picture.
“Okay.. So, shoot?” Getting nervous, Sebastian kind of spewed it all out in one big long breath that was barely audible.
“Kurt, I just can’t get you out of my head! Ever since I heard how amazing you’re growing up and all the great times we’ve had together whenever we can find time to meet. I just can’t stop thinking about you!”
Kurt’s mouth dropped. “uhm..”
“And before you say anything, I just want you to know that I have always liked you. You’re the best person I know Kurt, you’re so nice.. And sweet, and you’re just perfect. And now I really like you. In fact, I like you so much that I would really like to take you to dinner tonight. If that would be okay..”
Kurt sat back in his chair and stared at nothing, not looking at anything in particular, just not looking at Sebastian.
“So..” Sebastian pushed after a few minutes of Kurt staring off.
“I’d love to, Seb.” Kurt could barely get the words out before Sebastian started jumping up and down, “Yes! Yes! Yes! Fantastic! Don’t worry about anything, just go get yourself changed and I’ll come up to the castle at 5, and we’ll go somewhere only we know.”
Kurt smiled and stood up, Sebastian’s excitement seemed to spread to him. He bid Sebastian farewell and quickly walked back up to the castle where he would find the royal dresser and hopefully someone who could style his hair in enough time because this heat was deflating it fast.
“Kurt!” Kurt stopped in his tracks and turned, seeing Blaine in the castle in the mornings or nights wasn’t unusual, for he usually ended up sleeping in the servant’s quarters down the hall from Kurt so that they could talk. But he usually wasn’t there when Kurt wasn’t.
“Hey, where’s the talking stick?” Blaine asked once he caught up with his friend.
“Sebastian is.. Somewhere. To be honest I don’t know where he is.. But guess what I’m going to get ready for!” Kurt couldn’t contain his excitement.
“Uhm..”
“Okay, well you probably won’t guess it so I’ll just tell you. Sebastian is taking me on a date tonight! Like, a real date! Sebastian! I know, shocking right!”
Blaine couldn’t say anything. His heart dropped and he could feel his face losing color quickly. His eyes started to get wetter, but he fought the urge to burst into tears right then and there.
“Blaine, what’s wrong?”
Blaine couldn’t understand what Kurt was saying. All he could think about was Kurt, his Kurt, and Sebastian sitting at their café, eating some beef stew and having a great time. Kurt asked another question and Blaine figured he better say something quick.
“That’s great, Kurt! That sounds really great. I uhm- I need to go stack some armor so I’m going to just..” Blaine trailed off as he walked away, down the hallway and out the nearest door. Once he knew Kurt could no longer see him, Blaine ran. He ran and ran until he reached his destination. He got down on his knees and crawled under a hole in the wall where he and Kurt had gone millions of times as kids. He crawled until he reached light, leading outside of the castle. Blaine stood up once outside and ran to the edge of the cliff the castle sat on. Tears were streaming down his face now, but he didn’t care. The only other person who knew about this place was Kurt, and he was busy getting ready for his date so there was no chance that he would see him. His date. Kurt’s date.. Kurt was going on a date with Sebastian. Sebastian, the guy who Blaine just happened to loathe. How could this happen? Blaine had no idea Sebastian liked Kurt, let alone the other way around. Blaine sat for a couple hours crying and wiping away tears, cursing himself for his stupidity. He shouldn’t care this much, it’s not like he and Kurt were dating? They just went everywhere together, and talked all the time, and occasionally had sleep over’s that included lots of scary stories.
“Well, in all fairness.. He probably has no idea how I feel.” Blaine thought aloud.
“Wait- He doesn’t know how I feel!” Blaine stood up fast, and contemplated this new information. Maybe that’s why Kurt was going out with Sebastian! Because he had no idea how Blaine felt, maybe if he knew that Blaine loved him, Kurt would rather date Blaine?
“It’s worth a shot!” Blaine ran for the crawl space of the castle, made his way through that and then ran to the main part of the castle. Blaine had no idea whatsoever where they could be, but he had to find out. Before it was too late, he had to-
“Umph! Blaine, slow down, sport! What’s the rush?” Blaine had run into Burt so hard that he had been knocked off his feet.
“Excuse me your majesty, I apologize.” Blaine stood up and bowed.
“Oh come on Blaine, how many times do I gotta tell ya.. It’s Burt!” Burt was Kurt’s father, and he also just happened to be the King of Lima. He was the most loving king in all the land, Burt’s heart was pure gold. He could do nothing wrong.
“I’m sorry sir- uh, Burt. I’m just going to find.. Actually, do you know where the prince is?”
“Kurt? Oh yeah, he and Sebastian are in the dining hall. They decided to have a private dinner or something, Kurt wouldn’t tell me m-“
“Thank you so much!” Blaine yelled back as he ran out of the room towards the dining hall. Thankfully this room wasn’t so far away. Blaine slowed down once he was outside of the room and caught his breath, bent over trying to breathe easier, Blaine peaked though the door to see exactly how it was going. Kurt was laughing at something Sebastian had said and they were both smiling. Blaine stood up and stared at the sight before him.
“Excuse me, sir.” One of the palace guards was next to Blaine now, looking at him as if he was about to collapse. Blaine looked back at Kurt who was now looking at the door Blaine was next to.
“Blaine, is that you?”
“Uhm, yeah.. I was just going to the room down uh, there..” Blaine pointed down the hallway. “I didn’t mean to disturb you two.”
“No, you didn’t-“
“Thanks Anderson. Always a mood killer..”
Blaine looked at Sebastian, not even having the energy to glare.
“Yeah, uh.. Sorry. I’ll just go. I hope you two have fun.” Blaine finished as he left. Kurt’s shoulders slumped as Blaine walked out, but he could faintly hear Sebastian say “Oh don’t worry. We will”
