SLAM! Blaine Anderson jumped as his locker door was slammed shut, nearly slapping his fingers off.
"I thought I told you to take that down Anderson!" snarked a voice. Karofsky stood staring down at Blaine. His massive size enhanced by the football jacket.
"What's it to you Karofsky?" Blaine quipped cooly, crossing his arms over his chest. The football player glanced around, closing the distance between them and leaning in closer, apparently assuring he wouldn't be overheard.
"Because Hummel is mine," he spat in a gruff whisper.
Blaine wanted to laugh. "Oh please, as if he'd ever go for a big oaf like you."
Karofsky pounded his fist on the lockers. "Hummel would want a star, not a pathetic loser. Take the picture down or you'll get a piece of the fury!" That said, he stalked off. Blaine just stared after him.
"Seriously Kurt, I don't get why you have to look in Lima, Ohio. There's nothing there." One Kurt Hummel rolled his eyes at his agent. She did not approve, though she was used to it after working with Kurt for so long.
"Because Madison, Lima is my hometown. Few of us ever get out of there. I want to give someone else a chance." He gave her a hard stare. Madison returned her eyes to the planner in her hands. Kurt fixed his own eyes on the window.
"What makes you so sure you'll find the perfect co-star in this dirty little town? You said yourself hardly anyone ever gets out of it."
That was good enough to make Kurt snap.
"I am seriously considering getting a new agent right now." That shut Madison up. "Thought so."
Silence fell between them as the limo rolled down the highway. The private jet they had taken had landed at the airport in Columbus. A great deal of filming for Kurt's next movie would be done there. He had decided to return to Lima to look for the one role that hadn't been cast yet. His love interest.
"Blaine!"
Blaine stopped in his tracks and turned to see one of his best friends Rachel Berry running down the hall towards him. She had a newspaper clasped in her hand.
"Hey Rachel, what's going on?" Blaine asked, smiling at the girl.
"This!" Rachel shouted, practically shoving the newspaper in his face. Blaine had to draw back a bit to see what she was going on about. The headline caught his eye.
KURT HUMMEL RETURNS TO LIMA TO CAST HIS NEW CO-STAR
Blaine couldn't believe his eyes. Kurt was going to be in Lima and he was going to be looking for a new co-star. He grabbed the paper and quickly read through the accompanying article.
"Oh my God Rachel! He's holding auditions for a love interest for his next movie!" The expression on Rachel's face was enough to tell Blaine that she had already read the article. Of course she would have. Why else would she feel the need to shove the article in Blaine's face? It made perfect sense.
Rachel beamed at him. "I know it's spur of the moment but the auditions are right after school and you are going."
"But I don't have anything prepared," Blaine replied, frowning.
"Improvise. You're good at that." She grabbed his hand and ran off down the hallway. Little did they know but Karofsky had heard the whole thing.
Kurt stood in the Lima Community Center, a bottle of water in one hand. He was directing the people who were setting up the audition space.
"Chairs should go in the hallway," Kurt said. "I don't want anyone seeing any audition that's not their own. Fair game if they don't know how anyone else is doing."
Just then, the doors opened and Kurt turned his head, a frown on his face. It was a high school boy wearing a football jacket. Kurt set his bottle down on a table and approached the boy with his arms folded over his chest.
"If you're here for the audition, you're too early," he said, a hint of irritation in his voice. The boy merely smiled at him. Kurt rolled his eyes.
"Kurt Hummel?" the boy said, sticking out a hand. Kurt raised a brow and carefully stuck out his own hand but instead of shaking it, the boy kissed it, an action that Kurt didn't like at all.
"What's do you want?" Kurt asked, not even hiding the action of wiping his hand off on his pants. This kid disgusted him. And yet, he looked somewhat familiar.
The boy seemed oblivious to Kurt's dislike. He smiled widely and it took all Kurt had not to cringe.
"David Karofsky," the boy said. Kurt recognized the name. It was one of the kids that bullied him when Kurt was a freshman at McKinley, before he got his big break. "I just wanted to warn you about this horribly nerdy lady boy who thinks he's going to nail your audition. He has no talent and should literally drop off the face of the earth. His name is Blaine Anderson."
Kurt stared at him for several moments. He did not like Karofsky anymore now than he did the short time they were in school together. He knew the only reason the guy was being nice to him now was because he was famous.
"Just thought I'd give you a head's up." Kurt forced a fake smile on his face. "Don't want to give the role to someone with no talent. And I will be auditioning by the way."
There was no way Kurt was casting this kid as his love interest.
"I think I can tell who has talent for myself, but thank you." Kurt did not bother to keep the bite out of his voice. "Now get the hell out of my face. Don't count on getting the role." The tall, slender boy turned and walked off, leaving Karofsky feeling dumbstruck.
Blaine stared at the long line of boys wrapping around the community center with a sinking heart. Surely some of these kids were better prepared for the audition than he was. He'd only learned of it that morning.
"I can't do this."
"Uh uh white boy, you aren't backing out of this now," Mercedes Jones, Blaine's other best friend said. It was then that Blaine realized Rachel was missing.
"Where'd Rachel go?" he asked. Mercedes seemed to only take notice of their missing friend when Blaine brought it up. She glanced around and gave a frustrated sigh. The short brunette was nowhere to be seen.
"Next!" Kurt called, a bored look on his face. The boy who had just auditioned gave him a sad look and hurried out of the exit doors. Kurt was just about to drift off in boredom when a familiar face entered the room. "Finn!" he shouted in happiness.
Dropping the pencil he'd been tapping, Kurt leapt from his seat and ran into the other boy's open arms, hugging him tightly. The taller boy chuckled, hugging Kurt back.
"Hey Kurt," Finn said, pulling out of the embrace. "It's good to see you."
"Likewise. What are you doing here?" Kurt asked, grinning. Before Finn could answer though, a new voice piped up.
"Finn, how do you Kurt Hummel?" Kurt turned to see a short brunette girl hanging on Finn's arm. She was staring at Kurt in awe. The boy felt slightly uncomfortable.
Finn glanced at the girl and back at Kurt. "Kurt, this is Rachel Berry, my girlfriend." Kurt chose that moment to interrupt.
"What happened to Quinn?" he asked. Finn frowned when he remembered that he hadn't really been keeping Kurt posted. The whole Quinn/Puck baby drama thing was before and partly during the time their parents were dating. Kurt had been unable to attend the wedding and out of respect for the privacy of Kurt's status, Finn hadn't told any of his friends about his stepfather. If they knew who Burt was, it could create chaos. Mostly for Kurt's sake.
"Sorry dude, forgot to tell you about all that. I'll fill you in later." At this point, Rachel cleared her throat and started tapping her foot, clearly not liking being ignored. "Sorry Rachel," Finn said.
"Will you kindly tell me how you know Kurt Hummel?" she spat impatiently.
Kurt frowned and cut in before Finn could say anything. "If you must know, I'm his stepbrother." Rachel dropped her mouth open in shock. "And close your mouth. You'll let the flies in. Oh and for the record, animal sweaters? You look like a grandma with a toddler's brain."
Rachel gaped at him. It didn't help when Finn chuckled instead of standing up for her. She glared at him.
"Sorry Rach. One thing you should know about Kurt, he's brutally honest." Rachel huffed, turned on her heel and stormed from the room.
"You sure know how to pick them Finn."
