When I got to Dalton, I noticed there were a few people there already. I walked inside and went to the café where I noticed some people were sitting and drinking coffee. Blaine was sitting at a table talking to Wes and David. Once he noticed me, he smiled and gestured for me to go and sit with them. I walked to the table.
"Hi." I said as I sat down.
"Hey." Blaine said eagerly.
"Well leave you two alone." Wes smirked. They left the table, leaving only Blaine and I.
I sighed as I rested my head on my hand.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Im fine, just tired. I couldnt sleep at all." I explained. Then, I changed the subject.
"Do you wanna come to my house for dinner this weekend? My dad said that he wanted to meet you."
"Okay. Im free Saturday." He said.
"Okay." I got out a piece of paper and scribbled down my address. I slid the piece of paper to him. "Heres my address. Come around 4:00 because we usually have dinner around 5:30 or 6:00."
He folded the piece of paper and put it in his bag. We sat there and talked until the bell rang to go to class. We walked to English together. The day went by fast just like yesterday.
When I got home, my dad and Finn were sitting on the couch, watching a football game."Hey, dad, I invited Blaine over for dinner on Saturday." I said.
"Okay." Was all he said, not taking his eyes off of the TV screen. I went to my room and changed out of my Dalton uniform into some more comfortable clothes. I decided on a simple outfit: black jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black scarf.
I was excited for Saturday. Blaine was my first friend who was like me. It was nice to have a friend that actually understood me. Almost.
Saturday was finally here. I watched the clock. Finally, it was 4:00 and I heard a knock from downstairs. As I walked down the stairs, I heard the door open.
"Hi, Im Blaine. Is Kurt here?" I heard Blaine say.
"Yeah. Come in." My dad answered. "Hey, Kurt!"
"Im right here." I said as I walked around the corner.I looked at Blaine, taking in his outfit: yellow skinny jeans, a black collared pollo shirt and a yellow bow tie. His outfit was similar to mine, which was red skinny jeans and a black button-up shirt.
"Hey!" I greeted.
"Hi. Wow. You look amazing." He marveled.
"Thanks. You do too."My dad checked his watch.
"Oh, the games on." He exclaimed. "Do you watch football?"
"I love football." Blaine replied. They went to the living room and I followed. I sat on the couch next to Blaine and picked up a Vogue magazine.
Then, Finn walked into the room.
"Youre watching a football game without me?" Finn asked.
"Not anymore." My dad replied, patting the spot on the couch next to him.
"You must be Blaine." Finn said. "Im Kurts stepbrother, Finn."
Finn offered his hand for Blaine to shake.
"Nice to meet you." Blaine said, shaking Finns hand.
They fell silent as their attention went to the game and my attention went back to my magazine. A few minutes later Carole walked into the room.
"Sorry Im late. Traffic was terrible." She said. Then she saw Blaine. "Oh, I forgot we were having Blaine over for dinner. I dont think we have enough food."
"Why dont we go to Breadstix?" Finn suggested. "Blaine, youve been to Breadstix, right?"
"Actually, no." Blaine admitted.
"The food is so good." Finn said.
"The food is good." I spoke up, putting my magazine aside. "But, just a warning, the breadsticks are always stale. No matter how recently theyve been brought out."
"Noted." Blaine said.
"Okay. Were going to Breadstix." Carole exclaimed. "Let me go get changed, then we can go."
She left the room and the boys went back to watching the game. When she came back, we went on our way to Breadstix.
When we got there, a waitress escorted us to a booth.
"So, what would you recommend?" Blaine asked me after we ordered our drinks.
"Well, I usually have either the chicken parm with spaghetti or the Parmesan and herb pasta." I replied.
I reached past him to grab a breadstick.
"I thought you said they were always stale." Blaine said.
"Yeah, but that doesnt mean that theyre not somewhat good." I said, taking a bite out of the breadstick.
The waitress came to our table and we ordered our food.
"So, where do you guys work?" Blaine asked, trying to start a conversation.
"I work at Hummels Tires and Lube." My dad said.
"Im a nurse at a childrens hospital." Carole added.
"Wow. You must have a lot of money. You know, since you both work." Blaine said.
Carole gave a small laugh.
"Youd think we would." She said.
That was all that was said. Our food came and we ate in silence, just like we always did at home. When we were done, my dad payed for dinner and we went back to the house.
"You dont have to leave yet." I said to Blaine as we walked up to the house.
We went into the house.
"Blaine and I are gonna hang out in my room." I said as I pulled Blaine up the stairs. We went into my room. I sat on my bed and he sat down next to me.
"Kurt, are you okay?" Blaine asked, noticing that my body was slightly shaking.
"I need to tell you something." I croaked, looking down at my hands instead of at him. He was silent which I assumed was the indication for me to go on.
"At first, I didnt want to tell you. I didnt want to tell anybody. I wanted for things to be normal. But then, I met you." I rambled on. "Look, I like you, and this will change everything."
Tears started to gather in my eyes.
"I like you, too." Blaine said.
The tears spilled over and rolled down my cheeks as I pushed myself off the bed.
"Fuck. You arent making this easy." I whined.
He got off the bed and walked to me. He turned me around to face him.
"What is it?" He asked, cupping my face with his hand and wiping away the tears. I took his hand off my face and took a deep breath.
"Blaine, I have cancer."
