We arrived at the Lima Bean and went to the counter to order our coffee.

"Ill have a medium drip." Blaine said to the lady behind the counter.

"And a grande non-fat mocha for me." I added.

"Ooh, that cookie is huge! Blaine exclaimed. "I want that cookie, too."

I couldnt not giggle at Blaines childishness.

"$8.40."

Blaine pulled his wallet out and paid for the coffees and cookie. We grabbed our stuff and sat down at a table. I looked at his abnormally large cookie.

"Are you really gonna eat that whole cookie?" I asked.

"Yeah." He said. "Why? Did you want some?"

"No, its just that its a really big cookie." I laughed.

Then, I thought of a question that I had been wanting to ask.

"When I was at McKinley," I started, "people made an assumption about Dalton that Ive been meaning to ask about."

Before I could ask the question, Blaine spoke up.

"Let me guess, are we all gay?"

I nodded. He laughed before answering.

"No. I mean, there are quite a few guys I know there who are, and Im gay, but there are guys at Dalton who are straight."

I smiled when he said he was gay. Then, I shook my head. I couldnt get attached to anyone. Luckily, Blaine was too busy devouring his giant cookie to notice the awkward silence that came after his response.

"So, tell me about yourself." I insisted once Blaine was finished with his cookie. "I wanna know more about Blaine Anderson."

"Well, theres not really much to know about me, but I was born and raised in Westerville. I have a brother, Cooper."

"Wait, your brother is Cooper Anderson? The guy from the commercials?" I asked incredulously.

"Yes, the guy from the commercials." He chuckled and continued. "I went to a public school for half of my freshman year, but bullying got so bad that I dropped out. The following year I found Dalton. Im a sophomore now. Um, I like sports, mainly football and boxing. Thats really all there is to know about me. What about you."

"Oh, theres nothing interesting about me." I responded. He pleaded with his eyes for me to talk. "Ok, fine." I finally agreed.

As I talked about myself, I was surprised to see that Blaine was hanging on to my every word. Nobody has ever been that fascinated with me.

"I was born and raised here in Lima. Ever since I was eight up until last year, its been just my dad and I."

"What happened to your mom?" Blaine asked.

"Car accident." I mumbled just above a whisper.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, seeming like he genuinely cared.

"Another time." I promised before going on. "My dad got remarried last year and I got a stepmom, Carole, and a stepbrother, Finn. Um, oh! I remember once I pretended to have a crush on a girl as an excuse not to go out with another girl.""How did that turn out?" Blaine asked, clearly amused.

"She busted my cars windshield." I replied.

He snorted.

"Its not funny!" I exclaimed.

"Why did you lead her on?" He asked.

"I didnt know that she liked me like that." I answered honestly. "Later, after she came and apologized to me for busting my windshield, I told her I was gay. A week later I came out to everyone else after my dad walked in on me wearing a unitard doing the single ladies dance. Dont ask." I concluded.

"And you say youre not interesting." Blaine said in an amused tone.

I chuckled. I looked at the time on my phone. It was 4:54.

"Well, I have to go. I promised my dad I would be home before dinner." I said.I walked out of the coffee shop and drove home.

When I got home, I noticed Carole had started fixing dinner.

"Do you need any help?" I asked.

"No. Its almost done so I got it." She said.I went up to my room and dropped my book bag by my bed and took off my shoes. I went back down stairs, sat on the couch, and started flipping through one of my copies of Vogue.

Finn came and plopped on the couch next to me.

"So, hows Dalton?" He asked.

"Pretty good. They all are very accepting." I replied.

"Good." Was all he said before an awkward silence fell between us.

"Dinners ready." Carole said from the kitchen.

We went to the kitchen to fix our plates. I looked in the pots to see what was for dinner. Spaghetti.

I scooped some food onto my plate before setting it down on the table. I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water and then sat down at the table. Dinner was silent until my dad spoke up.

"So, you made a new friend?" He asked me.

"Yeah. His name is Blaine. Hes really nice." I explained.

"Is he gay?" He asked bluntly.

"Dad, I told you I didnt want to get involved in a relationship yet." I said. "And yes, he is."

"Well, thats nice that you found a friend. Id like to meet him sometime."I nodded in response.

After dinner, I put my dishes in the sink and went up to my room. I sat in front of my vanity mirror and did my nighttime skincare routine. Then, I crawled into bed to go to sleep. I couldnt sleep. My brain wouldnt shut up long enough for me to fall asleep. I couldnt stop thinking about Blaine. I liked him, but I couldnt be with him. On top of that, hed be crushed if I ever told him why I couldnt be with him. I got no sleep that night.

My alarm clock buzzed at 6:00 the next morning. I shut off the alarm and went to my vanity mirror. I had noticeable bags under my eyes from not being able to sleep.

"Damn it." I mumbled under my breath.

I got a washcloth and got it wet. As I sat at my vanity mirror, I dabbed under my eyes with the wet washcloth, attempting to get rid of the bags. Then, I went to my closet to get my Dalton uniform. I fixed my hair and put hairspray in it.

When I was done getting ready, it was 6:30. I decided to leave for school. I grabbed my book bag and quietly made my way down the stairs so that I wouldnt wake any one up.

"Leaving for school already?" A voice suddenly asked.

It was Finn. He was sitting on the couch in the dark living room.

"Yeah. I need somewhere to just sit and think." I told him. "What are you doing up so early."

"I wasnt able to sleep." He answered.

"Me neither." I replied.

Suddenly, Finn got up and wrapped his arms around me in a hug, straightening out my blazer afterwards.

"Ill see ya after school, bro." He said.

"See you after school."

I turned towards the door and walked outside.
