The following Sunday was the first time he actually went online since the outing debacle. He was so happy from the weekend that he spent with Kurt and Bernadette that no matter what comments were awaiting him on the other side of cyber space, nothing could bring him down. He took a deep breath and sighed as he opened his laptop and logged onto Facebook.
56 NEW NOTIFICATIONS
Well wow, okay. He slowly began to scroll through the notification page. Much to his relief the majority of those notifications were comments on the thousands of pictures that Rachel posts of Bernadette and tags him in. However, towards the bottom there were some wall posts. He slowly began to click the links.
Tina Cohen Chang-Chang Hey Blaine, I really miss you. Give me a call some time. I love you.
Brittany S. Pierce They told me you r a dolphin now. That makes me happy. Dolphins r my fav animal. If you r a dolphin – that makes you my fav animal.
Christiana Anderson Hey lil cuzzzin! HAHA I heard you like the D! I always knew you had it in you! Haa – get it? Anywayz, love you lil cuz – GET THE D!
This bitch is crazy. Blaine thought to himself as he finished rifling through the rest of the notifications. He was surprised, not a sing one, besides his cousin and Brittany (sort of), made mention of the fact that he has a boyfriend. Tina voiced her support, which he was grateful for, he is definitely going to have to call her. He was happy that no one made a spectacle of it, they just moved on with their lives.
A smile crept over his face as he felt a vibration in his pocket. He pulled out his phone and was greeted by Kurt’s face displayed on an incoming text message.
From Kurt: Is it weird that I miss you already? I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow. I wish I could be spending time with you!
To Kurt: Nope, I feel the same. I hope Friday comes quickly so I can see you! I love you.
It seemed like only seconds had passed when his phone vibrated again.
From Kurt: I love you too. Don’t worry, I have big plans for us this weekend.
But I’m not telling you what it is yet.
You are going to have to wait and see.
To Kurt: Baby, that’s not fair.
Baby.
Kurt.
What are you planning?
From Kurt: Patience is a virtue my love. And nope not telling. I promise you, the surprise will be worth every moment of the torture. Now, I’m going to take a shower and go to sleep. I love you. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
Give my baby girl a kiss for me.
To Kurt: Ugh, ok fine. Night love
I’ll be sure to kiss Rachel goodnight for you, even though I am not quite sure why I would be kissing Rachel.
From Kurt: Uh, no.
To Kurt: LOL! j/p babe. Of course I’ll kiss B Deezy for you.
From Kurt: Really Blaine? B Deezy? I’m done with you tonight lol
To Kurt: You love it. Night.
From Kurt: I do.
Blaine knew that if he didn’t stop the conversation neither of them would ever finish it. They found out a couple of weeks ago that if one of them didn’t just stop texting they would easily go all night long. Blaine put his phone down and focused back on the computer. He sat blankly staring at the screen thinking about Kurt.
It was then he decided to make some changes to his Facebook. Ten minutes later he had a new profile picture, cover photo, and relationship status. He changed the old picture of Rachel, Bernadette and himself to the picture that Marley took of Bernadette and Kurt that day all those weeks ago. He stared at it and smiled. The glowing aura around his daughter’s face and smile as she rests peacefully on top of Kurt’s styled-to-perfection hair. The look on his face was priceless and he could stare at this picture for hours. The caption simply read: The two loves of my life. Kurt Hummel and my baby girl B <3.
Now, his relationship status read: In a relationship with Kurt Hummel. He was kind of Rachel made the mistake she did, because now he could shout it from the roof tops. The only things that were keeping him back before were Rachel –and the situation- and the fear of rejection. So far everyone seemed accepting thus far, making it much easier on him.
His cover photo was probably one of his favorites. It was one taken at the gala they all went to. It was a candid shot that one of the photographers, who was friends with Kurt, snapped and sent to them. It was of Bernadette bending over to pick up a piece of confetti that had fallen on the floor, her almost-black locks fallen over her face. She was standing between the two men, but you could only see their tuxedo pants and dress shoes pointed at each other; because you know that men feet always point to what they want – or so they say. To Blaine it was perfect, a symbol of something to come: family.
Blaine was barely out of his trance by the time he was getting notifications. He watched as the red numbers on the little world icon began to climb. He clicked on the link and began to scroll through the notification.
Tina Cohen Chang-Chang, Brittany S. Pierce, Kurt Hummel and 13 other people like your relationship status.
Julia Anderson, Burt Hummel and 25 other people like your profile picture.
Holy shit. Blaine was internally freaking out. His mother liked his profile phone. His mother read the status, she knows. She knows everything. But his mother liked the photo, so that must mean she’s okay with it? He really wanted to be able to not care, but deep inside he desperately seeks his mother’s approval. Oh and let’s not forget Burt, Burt Hummel, also known as the father of Kurt Hummel. Acceptance? He honestly and sincerely hoped so.
Kurt Hummel, Marley Rose, Rachel Berry and 4 other people like your cover photo.
As he closed his laptop his phone began vibrating again. Thinking it was Kurt, he quickly answered without looking at the caller ID.
“Hello?”
“Blaine?” The not-Kurt voice on the other end replied.
“Mom?”
“Hey hun, do you have a minute?”
“Yeah.”
“How have you been dear?”
“Never been better actually.” Blaine replied matter-of-factly.
“That’s good to hear, I have been worried about you for a while… Hun, I just want to say I am so sorry for how everything ended up between us. You know I love you more than anything else in this world, I just- no. No. No, excuses, I have been a horrible mother to you. I am so glad that you have finally been able to admit your truth.”
“Wait, what?”
“Hunny, I have always known that you were gay. Well, at least I always had a feeling. Your father he is such a horrible man and please know that I don’t share his views. I love you. I love Bernadette and I want to have to chance to love Kurt.”
“Mom-“
“Are you coming home for Thanksgiving?”
“If by home you mean the Berry’s, I was hoping too, but I just don’t have the extra money for three tickets. Neither Rachel nor I worked for two weeks because of the hurricane.”
“I’ll buy your tickets. I just really want to see you guys. I miss you and the baby so much. I also really want to meet Kurt.”
“Okay, but only if your husband is nowhere to be found; I don’t want him anywhere near my daughter’s presence. I refuse to let his dark cloud infect my daughter.”
“He won’t be, I promise. Maybe I can come to the Berry’s on Friday?”
“Yea. We can work something out. I’ll call you when we finalize our weekend plans.”
“I’ll text you the card number so you can order your plane tickets.”
“Thanks mom.”
“You’re welcome. And Blaine,”
“Yea?”
“I love you so much.”
“I love you too.”
They hung up the phone leaving Blaine with a cluster of emotions. The majority of him is ecstatic because his mother accepts and loves him. She wants to meet Kurt and she wants him to be happy. The other parts of him are still just so angry at her for allowing her husband to hurt him so many times. Why didn’t she ever stick up for him? Why did she let him speak that way to him and say the horrid hurtful things he did? It’s something that he will never fully understand, but he is willing to accept reality for what it is and just be grateful that one of his parents was still in his and Bernadette’s life.
He put his phone on the charger before slipping out of his room and into Rachel’s. He looked into the crib where Bernadette laid fast asleep, a mob of curly almost-black curls swept across her face. He smiled before picking her up and bringing her back to his room with him. Tonight he just wanted to be cuddled with her.
*x*x*
Kurt wasn’t at his show on Friday which, at first, alarmed Blaine. He never missed a Friday show. But Kurt told him earlier in the week that they were going to spend the entire weekend together. Marley was going to stay at Blaine and Rachel’s with Rachel and the baby and he was actually going to get private time with his boyfriend. As he excited the stage he pulled his phone out of his pocket ready to call Kurt to see where he was. He was greeted with a new text message.
From Kurt: Sorry I’m not at your show. I know you were amazing though. Meet me at my apartment; I’ll have dinner ready for us. I love you.
Blaine smiled and quickly gathered his things and left. He didn’t reply to the text he wanted to surprise him when he got to the apartment. He hopped in the first cab he saw and his stomach did backflips the entire five minutes to Kurt’s building.
Kurt was getting anxious as well. Where is he? He hasn’t texted me back yet. Is he working late? The food is going to get cold. He had his island set with proper table settings and candles, lights dimmed with plates served. Everything was perfect, well, except the most important thing: Blaine.
He was ready to pull out his phone and call Blaine to see where he was at when he heard a faint guitar strum from outside his door. He slowly walked over to the door thinking that he was hearing things. Well he certainly was hearing things; they just weren’t in his head. Blaine stood outside of his door playing his guitar and singing to him.
“At last, my love has come along. My lonely days are over, and life is like a song-“
Kurt threw open the door and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend preventing him for continuing his serenade. “You are so perfect.”
“So are you.” The two men walked into the apartment and Kurt took Blaine’s things and put them down by the door.
“So, I made us dinner.” Kurt gestured for them to have a seat.
“Oh my goodness, it smells so amazing.”
“Thanks, bon appetit.”
A few minutes into their meal Blaine stuck up a new conversation. “So, my mom knows about us.”
“Oh?” Kurt replied inquisitively as he played with the food on his plate.
“Yea, she wants to meet you.” Kurt smiled and looked up at his boyfriend.
“Really?”
“Yea. Um, are you going home for Thanksgiving?”
“Yea, I’m leaving Wednesday and coming back that Sunday afternoon, are you?”
“Yea, my mom said she’ll buy mine, Rachel’s and the baby’s tickets – as long as she gets to meet you.”
“Aw, that’s sweet. How do you feel about it? I know that’s kind of a sore subject.”
“I’m okay. I love my mom, I’m angry with her in regards to the whole situation. But she apologized to me, and she told me that she always knew, that she was just glad I was happy. I accept things how they are and I told her that we’d love to have lunch with her or something, as long as her husband isn’t there. I don’t want him even sharing the same oxygen as Bernadette” Blaine paused “or you.”
Kurt smiled at him and placed his hand over Blaine’s. “You are one of the strongest people I know. Please don’t ever forget that.”
“Thanks love.”
“And you know what this means right?”
“What?”
“You get to meet my dad.”
“I don’t think I’m that hungry anymore.” Blaine joked.
“Oh come on, he is going to love you. He is really excited to meet Bernadette too.”
“I don’t know why, but I’m even more nervous about meeting your dad than I was telling Rachel’s dads that she was pregnant.”
“Okay, wow.” Kurt laughed. “It’s desert time. Let’s get some cheesecake and go watch a movie in my room. We can clean this up later.”
“Okay.”
The men grabbed a decent sized slice of cheesecake to share as they went to Kurt’s room to watch a movie. Kurt already had ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ in the DVD player ready to play when the two entered the room. Kurt stripped down to his t-shirt and boxers before climbing into the bed. Blaine glared at him in response.
“What? You don’t expect me to wear my clothes to bed do you?”
“I guess not. And I also suppose that it would be unfair to be so overdressed at this soirée.” Blaine stripped down to his tank top and tight boxer briefs. Thank GOD I’m not hard right now because this would be super awkward.
“Perfect, now we are even. Now come get in this bed and cuddle with me.” Kurt pleaded as he pressed play on the remote. The two maybe got five minutes into the movie before Kurt leaned into the crook of Blaine’s shoulder and situated himself on his side, getting himself ‘more comfortable’. Blaine pulled him in tighter, his heart starting to race. There was something about his boyfriend that drove him absolutely crazy. He was also extremely grateful for the blanket draped over their laps covering his rapidly hardening erection. Or so he thought.
Kurt noticed the bump in the blanket and smiled. Twenty seconds of courage. He turned his head to the side and kissed Blaine right behind his ear. He heard a slight gasp and took that as an invitation to continue. He genteelly nipped at the pulse point on Blaine’s neck as his free hand reach out and cupped Blaine’s cheek. Blaine moaned and turned his head crashing his lips against his boyfriend’s. It was pretty much instantaneous after that when their hands began roaming and their mouths began exploring.
In the heat of the moment Kurt felt Blaine pressed against his hip sending tingles up his spine that he didn’t even know existed. “Please Blaine,” Kurt panted into Blaine’s ear between kisses and touches. “I want to try something new.”
