Halloween was rapidly approaching. Rachel was ridiculously excited about their first Halloween in New York. She couldn’t wait to dress the baby up and go trick or treating. She was desperately trying to convince Blaine to dress up as a family. They could have a theme, like maybe from Wicked. Blaine shot that down with a quick no.
“You know Blaine, the Saturday before Halloween they do trick or treating in Central Park for the little ones. It’s in the morning so you don’t have to worry about it getting dark and cold.”
“Oh thanks! I’ll let Rachel know. You know she is still trying to get me to dress up with them.”
“Why don’t you?”
“No. Just no. You saw her wardrobe and what she did to her room pre-makeoker. Do you honestly think I am going to let her do that to me, let alone my daughter?”
Kurt just laughed. “No I guess not.” He put down the mug of coffee on the table and snuggled closer into the corner of the couch. “So what is she going to be? Halloween is in two weeks.”
“I don’t know, all I know is that Rachel is not allowed to have anything to do with it.”
“I could put something together for her.”
“Really!” Blaine could hardly contain his excitement.
“Absolutely, I’m thinking… she could be a princess. Not just any off the rack princess, but her own, one of a kind princess Bernadette.”
“That would be amazing Kurt, how much?”
“How much what?”
“How much for the costume?”
“Again, how much what?”
“How much money?”
“Uh, nothing. I am not going to charge you Blaine.”
“But-“
“But nothing. You’re my boyfriend and I want to do something nice for your daughter.”
Blaine thought he was hearing things. “You’re what?”
Oh shit. Good job Kurt, that wasn’t how that was supposed to come up. “My boyfriend. That is, if you want to be of course.” Kurt blushed and looked down at his fidgeting hands in his lap.
“Of course I do!” Kurt looked back up to meet Blaine’s eyes. He had a smile that went from ear to ear.
Kurt lifted one leg onto the edge of the couch and opened his arms. “Good. Come here boyfriend.” Blaine curled up into Kurt’s arms and sighed. He couldn’t believe it; he was in his first legitimate relationship. Blaine had a boyfriend. Kurt was his boyfriend. He wanted to squeal like a silly little fan girl, but he held back the temptation. We just smiled as Kurt placed a kiss to the top of his head and they sat on the couch in blissful silence.
Two days later Kurt sat at his desk sketching a design for Bernadette’s costume. A couple of months ago this is not how he would have envisioned his Halloween to be. However, he would prefer it no other way. He was engrossed in the design he didn’t even see his boss pop up behind him.
“Hey Kurt, what are you up to?”
“Oh, hi, Isabelle. I was just drawing out a costume.”
“And would that costume happen to be for the little curly haired beauty with the handsome daddy that you are so enchanted by?”
“Yes ma’am.” Kurt managed to get out even with the cheese that was taking over his face.
“Well, okay then, get back to it. Meeting in conference room A in 20 minutes. Jean Claude will be there can you make sure that the cover article draft is ready for presentation?”
“It already is my dear.”
“That’s why I love you Kurt.”
“You too Isabelle.” With a gentle touch to his shoulder she waltzed away to do whatever it is that she does. Kurt quickly jotted down what fabrics he wanted to and looked through the measurements for the dress she wore to the gala for yardage before tucking the drawing pad into his satchel. He would be making a trip to the garment district before heading home tonight.
Before Kurt knew it was nearly 3am and he had just finished pinning the little girl’s dress. Goodness, for being so little it was really a huge project. Of course it is, finer more intricate details. He wiped his eyes and locked the pinned dress in the closet. He didn’t need Bee finding it while he was at work tomorrow and messing it up, or hurting herself; which was most important, of course.
He shuffled over to the bathroom to do a quick version of his nightly routine; he needed to get to sleep sometime tonight. As it was he was only going to get about two hours of sleep. Oh well, completely worth it.
He sat down on his bed and looked at his phone sitting on the charger. One missed call and four new text messages. The missed call was from Blaine and it was from hours ago. Shit. He was supposed to call when he got home from the shopping excursion, but he got excited and forgot. He also got two text messages from Mercedes out in California complaining that he never calls her anymore, as usual. The other two were from Blaine.
From Blaine (7:23 PM): Baby just went to sleep, call me. Xo
From Blaine (11:02 PM): I guess you’re busy. Goodnight babe. TTYL xo
Kurt smiled as he looked on his phone. He fired back a quick message to Mercedes saying that he would call her in the morning and replied to Blaine.
To Blaine (3:06 AM): Sorry babe, I got carried away working on Bee’s dress. Who would have thought it would be so complicated. Call me in the morning.xo
He put is phone down and tucked himself into his covers. Sleep quickly overcame him and he drifted into the abyss of Blaine filled dreams.
Blaine rolled out of bed as he grabbed his phone to turn of the alarm. In doing so he noticed that his notification light was flashing. Last night he couldn’t help being disappointed that he didn’t hear from Kurt all night, but he couldn’t help but smile when he saw Kurt’s name flash on the screen. The smile took over his entire face when he saw why he didn’t call him back. Just the fact that he was that interested in his daughter made his stomach turn flips.
A loud CRASH broke him out of his daze and he jumped out of bed and ran out of the room.
The sight that he came out to made him laugh hysterically. Rachel was in the kitchen muttering, what he assumed to be, profanities under her breath while picking up the baby’s tray which, at one point in time, was full of her breakfast. Bernadette was laughing and slapping her hands on the sides of her highchair.
“What happened Rachel?”
“Bernadette pushed the tray off before I could finish fastening it in.”
“You look so flustered.”
“I’m fu- flipping tired Blaine.” She snapped.
“Whoa what’s with the attitude?” Suddenly miss perky was miss bitchy.
“Every night you get to sleep in your room in peace. I get up with her if she wakes up in the middle of the night and still have to get up and go to work in the morning.”
“Rachel, let’s not forget that before we moved here I was up with her WITH you and WITHOUT you every time she woke up back home. I look her and rocked her to sleep after you fed her so that you could go back to sleep.”
“Yea, what does that have to do with now Blaine? We’ve been here for three months and you haven’t gotten up with her once. Not once.”
“Rachel she doesn’t even get up every night.”
“Not the point. I’m tired Blaine. I want to be able to sleep too. I get up at an ungodly hour every morning to go make coffee for four hours, just to go to school and dance for hours on end to come home to do this again at night. I just want to sleep Blaine.”
“You want to sleep fine. Go back to sleep. I’ll take the baby and she can stay in my room. I’m not going to sit here and let you talk down to me. I am a good father. I get that you are tired, but that is no reason to take it out on me.” Rachel went to open her mouth to say something else but Blaine put his hand in the air signaling her to stop. “No Rachel, I don’t want to hear it. I don’t even really want to talk to you right now.”
Blaine walked over to the baby and picked her up out of the highchair. He grabbed a banana for her and brought her into his room slamming the door shut behind him. Blaine was mad. No scratch that. Blaine was pissed. Rachel has never went off on him like that and he didn’t appreciate it. Fine. If she wants to sleep, she can sleep.
“Did you hear that Bernie? You and Daddy are going to have sleep overs. Come on munchkin, daddy needs a shower and your mom needs to calm down.” He got his clothes laid out on the bed and brought the baby in the bathroom with him as he took a quick shower. As he showered he watched her through the glass door sitting on the floor playing with some of her toys he laid out of her. He watched her smile as she did whatever it was that babies do with their toys. He couldn’t help but to smile. Looking at her made all of his aggravations wash down the drain.
Fifteen minutes later he was dressed and ready to start his day. He bundled up Bernadette and they started their morning trek to see Marley. Rachel had tried to say something before they left the house, but Blaine didn’t want to hear it. He really wasn’t mad anymore; he just didn’t want to hear her mouth.
As soon as Blaine dropped Bee off with Marley he was on his phone.
“Hey baby.” He heard from the other end of the line
“Hey you. Busy night last night?”
“Yea, I should be able to have it done tonight if I work really hard.”
“So you’re not coming to my set tonight?”
“Babe, I would love too, but I just want to get her costume done so I can spend the weekend with my beautiful boyfriend and his even more beautiful daughter.”
“Well in that case, I suppose its okay.”
“What’s wrong? You sound stressed.”
“Oh its nothing.”
“Blaine.”
“Rachel and I got into a fight this morning.”
“About what?”
“The baby made a mess this morning and Rachel totally spazzed out on me, yelling at me for not getting up with B. Yelling at me about how she’s tired. I mean I get that she’s stressed out and just taking it out on me, but it was like that she was implying that I haven’t been a good father. Back home I woke up with her every single time she woke up. I stayed awake with Rachel as she fed her, I would rock her to sleep while Rachel slept. It just really rubbed the wrong way.”
“I’m sorry babe. Did you guys get over your little tiff?”
“Nope. I’m keeping Bee with me for a few days. I just don’t feel like hearing her mouth. I’m not really mad at her, I just don’t want to fight.”
“I understand. But listen babe. I have to get into work before Isabelle has my head. Please do me a favor and talk to her. You guys sound like you have to unresolved issues that need to be attended to.”
“I will. Thanks for listening.”
“Anytime Blaine. I’ll text you later. See you tomorrow, bright and early.” The two said their goodbyes and Blaine hopped on the subway to run his weekly errands and get some studying done. Before arriving at his first destination he sent Rachel a quick text.
To Rachel (9:54 AM): I’m sorry. We will talk later.
Later that evening Blaine was lying down on his bed with a sleeping Bernadette by his side. Blaine was lying on his side with his free hand lightly brushing his daughter’s curls out of her face. Every day she looked more and more like he did and he couldn’t be prouder. He was starting to feel himself drift off to sleep when he heard his door creaking open.
“Hey Blaine?”
“Come in Rachel.” Blaine didn’t turn his head to look at her, his gaze never left their sleeping daughter.
“I know you’re mad at me.”
“Rachel, that is an understatement. You were completely out of line this morning.”
“I know Blaine and I am sorry. I didn’t mean to insinuate that you were a bad father or not as invested in her as I am. You are an amazing dad and I was just at my breaking point. I know that it is not an excuse and I really hope you forgive me.”
An awkward silence filled the room. After what seemed like an eternity Blaine finally spoke. “Rachel, what you said was hurtful. I know I am a good father and I completely gave up on my dreams so that YOU could continue to live yours. You never have even acted remotely grateful for that, or even acknowledged it.” His tone stayed low as he slowly diverted his eyes from his baby and looked at Rachel. Rachel was looking down at the floor. “I get that you work and go to school, well guess what, so do I. I do apologize for making you feel like I wasn’t playing my part, but I promise you at the end of the day she is the most important thing in the world to me and I will do anything and everything for her.”
“I am so sorry for making you feel like I do appreciate everything you have done for me. Please know that I know how much you have sacrificed for me. It’s one of the reason’s I love you so much. I swear to you Blaine, you are the only reason I am trying to live out my dreams, all the dreams I thought were lost that day. Please, forgive me; you’re my best friend I can’t stand the thought of you being mad at me.”
“Rachel, I am not really mad anymore. I am more frustrated than anything else. But I’ll get over it and of course I forgive you. Now go to sleep so we don’t have a repeat in the morning.” Blaine smirked at Rachel as she tiptoed out of the bedroom. He looked back at his daughter as she twitched from a dream. He put his arm under her head and pulled her close. He held the chubby little girl firmly by his side and drifted off to sleep.

Is it weird that I cried reading this? I'm just feeling so much emotions and I read this after watching the new Glee episode tonight and I just... have so many misplaced and unresolved feelings. Okay, enough with the tears... KLAINE IS OFFICIAL... well at least in this story (cries). I feel like if this was what Glee was about or what happened in Glee, it would happen EXACTLY like this (Does that make sense?). This story, plot, writing, EVERYTHING is so believable and I love it!Okay, I'm going to continue crying now. (HAPPY TEARS EVERYONE!)
You have no idea how happy this review makes me :) Thank you thank you thank you! PS last night was pretty much perfection
