The sunlight filled Blaine’s bedroom far too quickly on Friday morning. He was still on a Kurt-induced high and had been all week. He and Kurt had been talking almost nonstop since they had gotten back. They texted during work and saw each other for dinner daily. They were still nothing more than friends, but Blaine felt more and more comfortable with Kurt. Blaine was starting to fall in love with him. Blaine Anderson was falling in love with Kurt Hummel. He rolled out of his bed with a huge smile on his face and sleepy shuffled to the shower.
As Blaine was running out the door he ran into Kurt waiting for the elevator. Kurt looked amazing, even if Blaine could not figure out how he could possibly wear all of those layers as hot and humid as it was during August in NYC.
“Top o’ the morning to you Kurt.”
Kurt smiled and shook his head at Blaine. “Good morning Blaine. Uh, I ran out of coffee this morning so I have to leave early to get some before work. Care to join me?”
“Sure, I usually go to this little café by my job. It reminds me of the coffee shops back home.”
“That sounds great, I love finding new cafes.”
Blaine felt his stomach tie into knots as tried to get the nerves to do what he was about to be. He was going to ask Kurt out. Well as soon as they got out of the sweltering subway. Blaine swore that being down in the subways during the summer could qualify as cruel and unusual punishment. The two friends practically ran up the stairs out of the subway once they got to their stop.
“Hey Kurt?”
“What’s up Blaine?”
“So, uh, when’s the last time you went out on a, uh um, date?”
Kurt shot his eyes at Blaine, was he really asking him out right now? Play it cool Kurt. Kurt thought to himself.
“I rarely date. It’s like a, once in a blue moon kind of thing.”
“Well then you’re in luck.” Blaine smiled and looked deeply into Kurt’s ice blue eyes.
“Oh yea, and why is that?” Kurt replied opening the door to the coffee shop.
“Well, don’t you know what tonight is?”
“What?”
“It’s a blue moon Kurt.”
“It is? Well then I guess I have to go out with you tonight.”
The boys got their coffees and exited the coffee shop to go their own ways. “See you tonight Kurt.”
Kurt quickly opened his phone and pressed Google. He searched ‘blue moon’ and sure enough, Friday August 31, 2012 was indeed a blue moon. “How does he do that?” He said to himself unsure of the whole situation. “Well I have to at least try.”

Blaine could hardly concentrate at work. He had absolutely no idea what to do or where to go on a date. He had just moved to New York and Kurt had been here for years, he had probably done everything interesting there was to do. He wanted to make it special. He was lost in thought walking though the hallway, and not paying any attention, walked right into Krissy, one of the office assistants, completely knocking everything out of her hands.
“Oh my God Krissy I am so sorry!” Blaine rambled as he dropped to the floor to pick everything up.
“Oh it’s fine Mr. Anderson.”
“Blaine. Mr. Anderson is my father. Besides you are around my age and it’s just weird for you to call me that.”
“So Blaine, what has you in such a tizzy? You are always so focused.”
“Oh nothing.” He really didn’t want to gush about his love life at work. But he couldn’t help but smile when asked.
“Ok Anderson, into your office now.” She playfully turned him around and pointed him towards his office. “March.” As soon as they were behind closed doors she put the files she was carrying on his desk and sat in the chair across from his desk. “Spill it Blaine. You look absolutely smitten. Who’s the lucky guy?” Blaine sat there dumbfounded; he wasn’t exactly “out” at his job. Not that he wasn’t proud of who he was, it just never really had a need to come up.
“What?” Blaine continued to look at her quizzically. She just laughed.
“Oh please Blaine, I know. Don’t ask surprised.” He just gave her a look that would have made Santana proud with his head kind of turned to the side. “You are the only guy in here who hasn’t so much as even glared at my ass. Everyone guy in here has hit on me except for you. Not even a sly comment under your breath.” She had a point there. She was a beautiful young woman. She was about his height, maybe taller, he was unsure with the 4” heels she wore daily. She had sun kissed skin, long blonde hair and a very shapely figure. All he saw were the men hounding her desk flirting with her. He was probably the only man working on their floor that hasn’t hit on her.
“Ok, well you have a point and yes, it’s about a guy.” Usually he wasn’t this comfortable talking about his love life with an almost stranger, but he needed someone other than Santana to talk to. “He’s my roommate’s friend. I asked him out and we are going to go out tonight.”
“That’s great! So… What’s the problem?”
“Well I have only been in New York for a few weeks and I have no idea what to do with him. He has been here since his freshman year of college and I am sure he has done everything.”
“Well yes, I am sure he has done everything.”
“Not helping Kris.”
“Let me finish. I’m sure he has done everything, but not with you. It’s a first date, why don’t you just take him for coffee and a walk through Central Park. That never gets old, especially for a new couple.” She pauses long enough to gather her work. “Well I better get back to work before boss lady wakes up and realizes I am not at my desk. I expect a full play by play of the date. Well, most of the date, I don’t need to know all of the details.”
Blaine just laughed and opened the door for Krissy. “Thanks Kris, I will be sure to let you know what happens.” He then whispered into her ear jokingly – “especially those details.”
She rolled her eyes and returned to her desk. He would never actually tell her those details, but he knew it would get a reaction and distract him, at least momentarily, from going crazy over tonight.
A couple of hours had gone by and Krissy was standing in his office again. “Okay Blaine, I did you the oh-so-wonderful favor of putting your work ahead of everyone else’s and got your Friday reports, spread sheets, and most recent stock analyses compiled, organized and filed. Now you can finish up with the Wilkinson Cardiology Associates account and get out of here a little early.”
“Thanks Kris, but you might wanna get Miller his reports before he has a heart attack.”
“Remember Anderson: the deets.” Blaine just smiled and leaned back in his chair. He had to make one more phone call and he could shoot out early for the day.

Kurt on the other hand but had no choice but to be completely focused on work. There was always a deadline, there was always someone barking demands at him. He had one week to get the costumes designed to some off-Broadway musical done by next week.
“Mr. Hummel?” His PA Daisy popped her head around the door frame.
“Daisy, I keep telling you, it’s Kurt. My dad isn’t even Mr. Hummel.”
“I’m sorry, Kurt, do you need anything? I have to make a coffee run.”
“Oh actually yes, you know my coffee order. When you get back can you cancel my teleconference at 4? I am going to take off a little early, I have some plans tonight.” Kurt couldn’t help but to crack a smile.
“Of course I will.” Daisy walked towards the elevator and Kurt tried to buy himself back into his work but he just couldn’t concentrate. He mind was on overdrive with the possibilities that tonight might bring. He sat back in the ridiculously expensive chair that his boss furnished the room with, and closed his eyes for a minute. Was he ready for this? He had to be ready for this. It has been over a year. It’s not like they are getting married or even having sex for that matter. It is just a date, a chance to get to know Blaine a little better.
Before he knows it a coffee is being put on his desk and he snaps back to reality. “Thanks Daisy.”
“No problem. I also already canceled the conference; you are free to go whenever.”
“You are awesome Daisy, and why don’t you head out too, I will make sure you are paid until 5.”
“Thanks so much! Enjoy yourself tonight!” She stated as she turned on a stiletto and headed out the door. He listened as the click of her heals faded down the hall. He packed up his briefcase and headed out the door himself. There is no way he could concentrate here. He said his goodbyes to his boss and quickly headed down the elevator.

“Santana Lopez please.” Blaine sat in his room at the apartment still at a complete loss of what he was going to do with Kurt tonight. He needed advice on what to do with Kurt. He couldn’t ask Rachel, she would just go and tell him and Finn was clueless. After a few minutes on hold, he was ready to hang up, when Santana finally answered.
“Santana Lopez speaking, how may I help you?”
“Wow Santana you sound so nice on the phone.”
“Oh shut the fuck up Triangles, I didn’t know it was you. What’s up?”
“I asked him out.”
“Ohmigod! What did he say?”
“He said yes.”
“Okay and you are calling me at my office 2 hours before I get home because?”
“Because; I don’t know where to take him. We are going out tonight. I am new to New York and you know what he likes.”
“Take him out for dinner and a walk through Central Park. He would love it. There is a nice romantic restaurant down on Christopher St. that he loves. You should take him there.” Santana gave him the details, they said their goodbyes and they hung up. He quickly called the restaurant and reserved a table.

To: Kurt
So should I pick you up at 5:30?
To Blaine:
Haha, pick me up? And yes, 5:30 sounds great.
So, what are we doing?
To Kurt:
That’s a surprise. You will see.
To Blaine:
Oh boy, I’m not sure if I should be excited or scared or both lol
To Kurt:
I’ll see you soon :)
An hour later Blaine was knocking on Kurt’s door. When Kurt answered, he was secretly grateful that Rachel or Finn didn’t open the door. He didn’t want to answer any question or get grilled by his brother. When Blaine laid his eyes on Kurt, it took everything he had in him not to take him in his arms and kiss him hard and passionately. “Wow Kurt, you look amazing.” Of course Kurt did, Kurt always did.
“Well Blaine, you look quite handsome yourself, dapper even.” Kurt couldn’t help but smile. Blaine was not dressed in such a way that Kurt would dress him, but it worked for him. Admittedly, even though he wore them on occasion, bowties were not his favorite accessory, but on Blaine they looked amazing.
Blaine held out his arm folded, allowing Kurt to link arm in arm with him saying, “Shall we go.”
Kurt intertwined his arm with Blaine’s. “Lead the way.”
As they walked down the street, Kurt grew increasingly curious. “So Blaine where are you taking me?” He asked arms still intertwined with Blaine’s.
“You will see when we get there. It’s only a few more blocks.” Both men were happy they were out of Ohio and in New York. Not only New York, but they were in the West Village. They could be who they were here without judgment, without worries of acts of hate. It was the reason why all six of the friends chose this neighborhood. In Ohio Blaine and Kurt would not have been able to walk down the street, arms linked, lost in conversation, without looking over their shoulders and hoping for nothing more than just the common disapproving stares.
Over the next ten minutes they discussed their days at work. Kurt was lost in a story about his boss and an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when they arrived at the restaurant. They were standing in front of Halvana Alma de Cuba. “Oh Blaine! It’s my favorite restaurant! How did you know?”
“I have my ways. After you my friend.” Blaine replied as he held the door open gesturing Kurt through. “Anderson for two.” He told the hostess at the front door. She led them to a table towards the middle of the restaurant. Kurt hadn’t stop smiling since he realized where they were. He couldn’t believe that Blaine cared that much to find out what his favorite restaurant was. They walked in and was greeted by a very friendly, upbeat girl, whom reminded them much of Rachel. “Anderson party of two.” Blaine quickly told her and she showed them to their table.
The next hour went by quickly. The two men talked and laughed, mostly Kurt, who was rambling on about the chaos of work. Blaine just sat back actively listening to every word Kurt was saying. “But that’s enough about me. Tell me a little bit more about yourself. What about your family? I have yet to hear you mention them.” Kurt stated between sips of wine.
“Oh, of course. Well, uh, let’s see. I have a mother and a father and a crazy brother.” Kurt couldn’t help but to giggle at Blaine’s witty response. “My dad is corporate attorney and my mother is a doctor. As you can imagine they are ridiculously busy and it was pretty much just my lunatic brother and I until I started high school and he moved to LA. He’s eight years older than me. They are really good people, I just have never really seen them much.”
“Oh that sucks, it must have been lonely.”
“No, not really, in high school I boarded there so I was always with someone. Even though my family is busy they always made time for us at the holidays. So tell me more about your family. Uh, don’t take this the wrong way but Finn doesn’t look like you. Like, at all.”
Kurt almost choked on his wine he laughed so suddenly. “Oh that’s because Finn is only my step-brother. Over the years we have become really close and it’s just easier to call him my brother. My mom died when I was eight,” Blaine’s face instantly turned to sadness “and I decided to hook him and Finn’s mom up my sophomore. It was like they were always meant to be. Over the last 10 or so years I have grown accustomed to calling Carole ‘mom’ and Finn calls my dad ‘dad.’”
“I’m so sorry about your mom Kurt.”
“Thank you, she was a great woman. But changing the subject, seeing as we are done here, where to next?” They get up from their table and walk towards the door.
“Well, I was thinking an early evening stroll in Central Park.”
Kurt reached out to hold Blaine’s hand smiling. When their hands clasped together Blaine couldn’t help but to blush and smile. At that moment Blaine was so happy, he thought the night couldn’t get any more perfect.
The two friends walked through the gates of Central Park with Kurt making a bee-line to Strawberry Fields. They walk up to the memorial, which as always, was carefully decorated with fresh cut roses. “Blaine, this is my favorite place in all of New York. I come here to think and to just relax.” Kurt sits on the ground right in front of the large peace sign pulling Blaine with him. This was the only place that Kurt would ever find it okay to sit on a public walkway, here he didn’t care. The memorial, as usual, had people sitting along the benches surrounding it and tourists snapping pictures. Kurt just closed his eyes, and became lost in his thoughts.
“Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free
Black-bird fly
Black-bird fly, into the light of a dark black night
Kurt was singing with such beauty Blaine couldn’t helped but to be entranced by his voice. This was going to become his favorite stop as well.
Black-bird fly
Black-bird fly, into the light of a dark black night
Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise”
Kurt stopped singing and a loud applause erupted from the crowd of people who gathered when they heard him start to sing. His cheeks flushed. He whispered a ‘thank you’ to them and quickly rose to his feet. “Oh my goodness Blaine, I completely forgot where I was.”
“That was amazing. Absolutely breathtaking.”
“Aww thank you.” They reconnected hands and continued their stroll through the park. “So Blaine, what is your favorite movie?”
“Well besides all things Disney and Harry Potter,”
“Of course.”
“don’t laugh, I absolutely adore Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”
“Oh Blaine I wouldn’t laugh at that, it’s a person favorite of mine too. You know what my favorite song from it is?”
“What?”
Kurt starts singing.
Falling in love with love is falling for make believe
Falling in love with love is playing a fool
Caring too much is such a juvenile fancy
Learning to trust is just for children in school
I fell in love with love one night when the moon was full
I wasn't wise with eyes unable to see
I fell in love with love with love everlasting
But love fell out with me “
Blaine sang the step-sisters lines. “Falling in love with love is falling for make believe
Falling in love with love is playing a fool”
Kurt:
“Caring too much is such a juvenile fancy”
Kurt and Blaine sang together:
“Learning to trust is just for children in school”
Kurt:
“I fell in love with love one night when the moon was full
I wasn't wise with eyes unable to see”
Together:
“I fell in love with love with love everlasting/ She fell in love with love with love everlasting”
Kurt:
“But love fell out with me”
Blaine thinks Kurt may have held that last note longer than Bernadette did. “Oh well I hope you don’t believe in the message that the song says.” Blaine said to Kurt. Kurt remained silent and looked towards the ground. Blaine tried to quickly change the stomach to ease the tension. “Well you know what my favorite song from it is?”
Blaine started singing, with Kurt following in the dialog as they did in the song previous.
Blaine:
“Impossible, for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage.
Impossible, for a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in
Marriage,
And four white mice will never be four white horses!
Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is--- Impossible!
But the world is full of zanies and fools
Who don't believe in sensible rules
And won't believe what sensible people say.
And because these daft and dewey-eyed dopes keep building up impossible hopes,
Impossible things are happening every day.”
Kurt:
“Impossible!”
Blaine:
“Impossible!”
Kurt:
“Impossible!”
Blaine:
“Impossible!”
Kurt:
“Impossible!”
Blaine:
Impossible!
Both:
“Impossible!”
Kurt:
“It's Possible! For a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage!
It's Possible! For a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in marriage!”
Blaine:
“And four white mice are easily turned to horses!
Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is
Quite Possible! It's possible!”
Kurt:
“For the world is full of zanies and fools”
Blaine:
“Who don't believe in sensible rules”
Kurt:
“And won't believe what sensible people say”
Both:
“And because these daft and dewey-eyed dopes keep building up Impossible hopes
Impossible things are happening every day!”
Kurt:
“It's Possible!”
Blaine:
“It's Possible!”
Kurt:
“It's Possible!”
Kurt:
“It's Possible!”
Blaine:
“It's Possible!”
Kurt:
“It's Possible!”
Both
“It's Poss-iiiiiiiiiiiiii-bleeeeeeeee”
The friends start laughing as they start to head out of the park and back to the subway. It was getting dark, and it’s not the best idea to stay in the parks at night. They spent the rest of the way home discussing their favorite songs and musicals, Kurt very excited about each and every one. Blaine knew exactly what he would do with Kurt on their second date. He was in no way trying to rush things, but he wished this night would never in.
When the men returned to their building they stopped half-way between their doors and hugged. Their eyes met and before Kurt had a chance to think Blaine kissed him with a gentle passionate kiss that Kurt tried to eagerly return. Then just as soon as it began, Kurt pulled away in panic. “I’m sorry Blaine, I can’t. I’m sorry.” Kurt stuttered out running into his apartment leaving Blaine dumbfounded and heartbroken in the hallway.
“It’s possible.” Blaine whispered at the door as he turned around and entered his own apartment, slamming the door behind him.
