“Um, who’s this?” Blaine asked when he came home from school about a month later. “Your new girlfriend,” his father simply put before going back to his morning paper. “What?” was all Blaine could say. He took a good look over her, taking in her features. She was pretty enough, she had blue/grey eyes behind her rectangle framed glasses and honey colored hair that reached slightly past her shoulders. What really caught him though was the color of her eyes; they were the same exact color as Kurt’s. “Hi, I’m Adeline,” she said quietly. “I’m Blaine,” he said looking at her for a second before turning to his father. “Can we talk alone?” His father nodded, excused them and walked into the family room, Blaine at his heel. “I know what you’re trying to do; set me up with a pretty girl to get rid of the “gay bug” as you like to call it,” Blaine said, in a soft but rough tone. “That’s exactly what I’m doing, and it’s going to work,” Mr. Anderson said before walking out of the room. Blaine walked back into the kitchen and took a seat at the table, accompanying Adeline. “So, what are you into?” Blaine asked, trying not to sound awkward. “I like to dance and sing, I might be joining Glee Club,” she said quietly. “Oh, I’m in Glee Club, and it’s a blast, you should join,” he said, sending her a slight smile. After laughing at a few things she said, and her laughing at a few of his cheesy jokes, she was on her way home. “Maybe I could like this girl. I don’t know,” Blaine thought to himself before sulking upstairs to his room.
Five Years Later
The minute Blaine married the girl, he knew he was gay. It was just something about the moment that just told him it was wrong. The dress, just the idea of a girl walking down the aisle was just wrong to him. He hadn’t seen him since he had told him he couldn’t see him anymore, but all he wanted in that moment was to see Kurt Hummel. Adeline was a beautiful girl, but she was no Kurt. Kurt was just… perfect. Adeline just wasn’t what he wanted; a boy. But, he didn’t just want a boy; he only wanted Kurt. Most relationships in high school didn’t mean a thing, but Blaine knew his thing was Kurt was the real thing. It was the way they kissed, and the way his body felt against his, and even the way Kurt breathed, Blaine knew that Kurt was his other half; his soul mate, so to speak. That night, Adeline had begged Blaine to take her, but he just couldn’t do it. Kurt had been his first, and it was so special. He knew he could never get the same satisfaction from someone else. He had barely ever kissed her, yet she was willing to marry him. Her parents wanted her to get married to him, knowing that she would be in good hands with him. But they had never known he was gay, or the fact that he married their daughter because his father had told him, not that he loved her. He liked her, but not as a lover; he just couldn’t be attracted to her.
But boy had he found Kurt Hummel attractive. The day he saw him strolling down the staircase of Dalton, he thought he was the most gorgeous boy he had ever seen. And when he held his hand for the first time, their fingers intertwined so perfectly. He knew that Kurt was the one for him, even on his wedding day; he couldn’t stop but think about Kurt. He had written many letters to him, but never even managed to put them in envelopes. He wrote to Kurt when he felt down, or just wanted to vent out his feelings. He kept the letters in a shoebox, in his closet, knowing that Adeline would never find them. He would write about his day, or about how Adeline would never compare to him.
Blaine wondered how he was. Was he in New York with Rachel, or did his dream fail and was still living in Ohio? But mostly, did Kurt move on? Was he with another guy, maybe even married? It hurt to think so, but then he realized he had done just that. He had married, but to a girl and to a girl he didn’t even love. He felt just sickening at the thought; he felt like he was cheating even though he hadn’t seen Kurt in five years.
After celebrating their two month anniversary as a married couple, Blaine went out to go get a coffee at the Lima Bean, his special place where he told Kurt he had loved him, but also the place where he told he chose his family instead of him. Standing in line to order his coffee, he noticed a tall man in a dirty Haynes t-shirt, faded blue jeans and typical tennis shoes. Blaine looked closer to see dark brown eyes and dark brown hair and the same smile as someone he used to know, and then it hit him; he was looking at Finn Hudson. “Finn Hudson, is that you?” He asked quietly, not sure of himself. But he turned in response, so he knew it was him. “Blaine?” Finn asked back, taking a look at him. Blaine nodded and got his coffee before sitting at a table with him.
“I’m married now; to a girl,” he said to Finn. Finn raised his eyebrows in shock, before saying, “Kurt was crushed, he still is to his day. He gave up on his New York dream, he still lives here.” Blaine sighed in depression before saying, “My father made me choose; made me choose if I wanted to be a part of their lives, or if I was going to be gay. I figured that maybe dating a girl would make me straight, but the worst part is that, on the day of the wedding, I couldn’t help but look at her and not feel anything at all. I just looked at her, and thought that the moment wasn’t special at all. I miss Kurt,” he said. Finn looked at Blaine, but then got the idea of playing Cupid. “Here’s his number. Give him a call maybe,” he said before walking out to go back to Hummel and Hudson Tire and Lube. What Blaine held in front of him, was an opportunity; he held a second chance.
When Blaine came home, Adeline greeted him with a kiss on the cheek before saying, “Dinner’s ready.” He took off his jacket, hung it on the hanger before going in to meet his wife for a silent dinner.
(AN: Here’s where it gets good) Blaine had been staring at the wall since he climbed into bed; his thought unable to be tamed. He rolled over, seeing if Adeline was asleep, and she was so he got up, trying not to wake her up and walked into the next room, which was the bathroom. He sat on the floor, against the wall, cell phone in hand. He dialed the number in and listened. 1 ring, 2ring, 3 before he heard a tired “hello?” Blaine couldn’t help but regain all of those feelings he had forgotten about. He remembered the way he felt when he talked, or touched him. His voice was still as melodic as it was 5 years ago, so Blaine could only reply with, “Kurt?” After a moment of silence, “Blaine?” Blaine was so surprised that Kurt had remembered his voice; it felt so good to have him say his name. “Kurt, it’s me,” he said quietly, tears in the corners of his eyes.
“Why are you calling me at 2 AM?” Kurt finally asked. “Adeline’s sleeping in the other room. This was the only time I felt that I could talk to you without her knowing,” Blaine added quietly, making sure she couldn’t hear him. “I’ve missed you Blaine,” Kurt said quietly, kind of embarrassed. Blaine’s heart soared almost out of his mouth, which was where his heartbeat was at that moment. He cleared his throat, before saying, “Uh yeah, I’ve missed you too Kurt.” It was so hard for Blaine not to just let out every emotion, but instead he quickly said, “I’ll call you tomorrow,” and hung up before crawling in next to Adeline. She rolled over and unconsciously snuggled into his chest; Blaine felt nothing.
