"Dad?"

"Yeah, Kurt?"

"Being on the football team and being in Glee club... they've taught me that I can do anything. But I have to be me in order to do that... and... who I am is... I'm gay, Dad."

Kurt had come out to his father the night before. His father had embraced him and explained that Elizabeth and he had known since he was a young kid.

"Do you still talk to Blaine?" Burt finally broke the silence at breakfast the next morning. Even though he'd supported Kurt, there was still a sense of awkwardness in the air that could only be taken away by Burt's voice.

Kurt choked on his glass of water, "I-uh, no. We sort of faded out, I guess. That's what happens when people move, even though you promise it won't."

Burt nodded and gestured to Kurt's neck, "You still wear that necklace. It's rusted, old, and worth nothing. Yet, you don't stop wearing it."

"I promised I wouldn't."

"You also promised you'd always talk with Blaine. You have a computer now, you could..."

"Yeah, well, not all promises are kept."

"Then why are you so insistent on keeping a necklace for someone that you don't even talk to?"

"I don't know. I guess I still see him as my best friend. Even with Mercedes and Rachel and Glee Club, there's just something that's not there. Why do you want to know this anyways?"

"No need to get an attitude," Burt raised his voice a little, but chuckled. "We're going to Boston in two days; I thought that maybe you'd want to..."

"Why are we going to Boston?"

"My sister is in the hospital, it's pretty serious. She's in the ICU and they're saying she probably won't come home after this visit."

"You never talk about Aunt Margret."

"Because Margret never came around, I guess. We don't really have anything against each other," Burt pulled off his cap and rubbed his hand across his bald skin.

"Oh. I'm sorry about this, Dad."

"It's okay. We weren't close as children."

"So... we're going to Boston?"

"Yup. Maybe you could call Blaine and see if he's available. You don't want to spend your entirety of time in Boston at the hospital and I'm not going to make you. You love shopping; maybe you and Blaine could go to Quincy Market."

"I don't know, Dad. His phone's probably changed and I'm sure his video chatting account doesn't work anymore. Nobody gets on that anymore." Kurt shrugged and washed out his glass.

"Just try."

"Why?"

"Because I see how you are without him, Kurt. You need someone like him."

"Like what?"

"Well, you know, uh... gay," Burt was still trying to get himself used to the phrase.

"How do you know that?"

"Please, you two were like two peas in a pod and I know that you kissed."

"Do you have cameras on me?"

"Please, you were on a hospital bed and you were giggling like a school girl, so was Blaine."

Kurt sighed, "Fine, we kissed."

"Did you kiss after that?"

"Yeah, once, before he left. I..." Kurt broke into a sob.

"What's wrong, buddy?"

"We were twelve and he wanted to experiment so he tried to make the kiss more, uh," Burt was giving him an odd look so he just said, "passionate."

"What's the problem with that?"

"I stopped him."

"Why? You liked him, Kurt. I know you did."

"I did and that wasn't the problem. I was just afraid of getting too attached. I cut him off. I deactivated my cell phone and told you it broke. I still love him, Dad."

"Try to get in touch with him."

"Please, he probably hates me."

"Try, Kurt."

"Okay."

"Go into your room and pack, but first check if Blaine's online."

"Alright."

Kurt sighed and sat at his desk chair. He had gotten a laptop for his 15th birthday and, somehow, he wasn't able to not install the same outdated video chatting program on it. He even found his old account. He signed on with a "Bing" and clicked the little unused icon. It slowly came on, he hadn't touched it since he'd tried logging into his old account.

With butterflies in his stomach, Kurt clicked "Friends." There was a little gray blob next to the name, "Blaine Anderson." Kurt sighed. It was still a picture of an eleven year old Blaine, laughing as Kurt tickled his sides. The twinkle in his eye showed love, which Kurt hadn't noticed back then.

There was a long list of mottos that Blaine had made over the years, showing that Blaine hadn't given up on the service either.  One had been from the night before said, "Off to my very first dance being me. Glad to be out for over 3 months, even though my parents weren't too happy about it. (:"

Kurt was proud of Blaine for coming out. He clicked Blaine's profile, even though he knew that Blaine could easily find out about it. It read "Last on- Less than 24 hours ago. Friends: One." Did that mean online friends? Why would Blaine continue to log on if he only had one friend? Kurt clicked the tab. "Total Friend List: Kurt Hummel."

Why was Blaine still logging on? Had he not given up on Kurt yet? Kurt decided to make a motto for the first time since he was twelve. His motto still read, "Missing my best friend. I hate Boston!" His profile said that Blaine had viewed it 151 times since his last log-on, the last time being the week before.

Kurt smiled at Blaine's effort, but it was quickly wiped away. He logged off, not being able to handle the sudden connection with his ex-best friend. His body acted before his brain could notice. The phone was in his hand and Blaine's number (which he had memorized) plugged into it before he even knew it.

What the hell am I doing?' He thought to himself. The phone, however, was deactivated. He logged back on and found a motto of Blaine's from the month before that stated a new phone number. Kurt, again, plugged it into his phone without thinking. It went straight to voicemail and a deeper, but still recognizable Blaine, spoke: "Hey there, you've reached Blaine Anderson! Leave me a message pleaaaaasee!" A deep and beautiful voice half sung, half sung the last word.

"Uh, hi Blaine, I don't know if you recognize me or remember me for that matter, but this is Kurt... We're coming to Boston in two days so if you want to hang out... I guess... I'm sorry that we didn't... You know what, this is silly of me. I hope you're okay. Bye."

Kurt put his head in his hands. It was embarrassing, but it couldn't be undone. When Burt came in and asked how it went, Kurt lied and said, "He deactivated his account and phone years ago."

"I'm sorry, Kurt."

"It's okay; I guess it wasn't meant to be."

-

Meanwhile, Blaine Anderson lay under a beeping machine. His mother was asleep in a chair, his father on a business trip. Even though he was in a coma, the events of the night before could still flash through his brain.

"Get your fag asses out of here."

"Leave me and Gabe alone. We're not hurting anyone!" Blaine had thrown himself in front of his date.

"You're hurting my eyes. My little sister's coming to pick me up. I don't want her to see you two spreading fairy dust everywhere!"

"Seriously, Smith? You're going to get all up in our grills for removing your little sister's innocence? Funny, you and your girlfriend have sex enough when she's home." Gabe stepped out beside Blaine, not wanting him to have to protect him.

That's when the punches started. Blaine told Gabe to run, basically pushed him away. Gabe had no choice but to do so. However, Ron Smith beat the living hell out of Blaine. Blaine tried to kick him, but before he could do anything a punch hit his cheek and the world went black.

-

"Dad? Dad?" Kurt was running through the intensive care unit. He couldn't find his father, after having run off to get coffee. The beds in the ICU were all in one room, with curtains separating them. Before he found his father, Kurt spotted a short teenager, not older than fifteen, with curls escaping gelled hair. There was a very familiar sight in his triangle eyebrows. Kurt ran over and gasped.

"Blaine?!" The man was laying on the bed, beaten up to a point where his face was almost entirely purple. Obviously, Blaine couldn't answer. Kurt just ran his hands through Blaine's hair. "I still love you," he whispered as Emily woke up and groggily questioned, "Kurt?"

"What's up, buddy?" Burt patted Kurt's shoulder.

"Nothing, sorry, couldn't find you."

"It's alright. Hey, you alright? You seem shaken up."

"Yeah, fine." Kurt lied, out of breath.

"Sure?"

"Yes, just glad to have found you."
