“I know sweetie, you're a big man now but this is just in case” she laughed slightly.

“just in case what?” Kurt asked, his eyes wide with curiosity.

“in case a big bird tries to swoop you away” she winked at her son, he rolled his eyes and giggled.

“that's silly, mom” he corrected her and walked off to his bedroom. It was his parents twelfth anniversary and they were going out for dinner, so Kurt's parents hired a babysitter – an idea that Kurt most disagreed with. He heard the doorbell ring twice and ran out of his room and hid around the wall so whoever the babysitter was couldn't see him but Kurt had a full view.

“I'll get it!” Kurt heard his dad shout, he walked down the stairs with a spring in his step as he straightened his tie and opened the door.

“Hello Mr. Hummel, I'm Blaine Anderson and this is my girlfriend Mollie Green, I believe you need a babysitter” the young boy said in a high voice, one that had not yet broken due to puberty. Kurt didn't know how old this boy was but he knew he was older than him.

“hey kids, thanks for coming, um let me get Kurt. Kurt!” his dad shouted, Kurt stood still and held his breath, “kurt! I know you're there!” his dad continued. Kurt sighed and walked around into the living room and stood in full sight of the other children, “ah here he is! Kurt, this is Blaine and Mollie” Burt introduced them.

“Hi” Kurt said shortly, Mollie smiled and waved and Blaine just smiled, Burt laughed and ruffled his son's hair which Kurt gasped at and fixed it straight away.

“honey! We have to go!” Burt shouted up the stairs as Kurt's mom was just finishing up, “Okay, so here's $20 for babysitting and an extra $20 for pizza. Kurt's bedtime is no later than 9 o'clock and we should be back about 11” Blaine nodded and thanked Mr Hummel for the money. Kurt's mom finally came down the stairs and kissed her son before leaving for dinner with her husband. Then it was just Kurt and his babysitters alone.

“so Kurt, what do you want to do?” Blaine asked, getting down on his knees so he was slightly smaller than Kurt. Kurt was captivated by this boy, he was quite beautiful, I mean, for a boy. He had big sparkly brown eyes, dark curly hair and a big goofy smile like a puppy.

“I want to touch your hair” Kurt smiled, Blaine laughed and titled his head so kurt could lift his head and feel his curls. They were soft and shiny and a little bit fuzzy, “you're like a puppy” Kurt smiled, Mollie laughed and Blaine laughed too whilst looking at her, “you want a ride on the puppy then?” Blaine asked, Kurt nodded and Mollie lifted him onto Blaine's back when he got on all fours. Kurt held onto Blaine's hair, being careful not to pull it as he rode around on Blaine's back, laughing constantly. Mollie followed them behind incase Kurt fell off but he didn't.

“okay, puppy's tired now” Blaine laughed and lay down on the floor with kurt still on his back, Kurt continued to giggle until he got off Blaine.

“how old are you?” Kurt wondered aloud, Blaine smiled up from the floor.

“I'm 13 and so is Mollie” Blaine answered.

“Whoa, you guys are old! I just turned 7!” Kurt smiled, proudly, Mollie and Blaine both laughed.

“hey Kurt, you want to watch a movie?” Mollie asked, Kurt nodded and he ran to sit on the sofa, Mollie helped Blaine up with her hand and they continued to hold hands as they walked over to the sofa to join Kurt.

Why can't I hold Blaine's hand like that? Kurt thought.

“I want to sit in the middle!” Kurt said excitedly, they both nodded and released their hands which made Kurt smile even bigger. Blaine put the DVD into the DVD player and pressed play. It was the mask, one of Kurt's favourite films, when Blaine sat back down, Kurt grabbed his hand and held it, Blaine started to laugh, as did Mollie.

“i think someone's got a crush” Mollie whispered to Blaine, Blaine just laughed as Kurt's head fell onto his shoulder and linked his arm around Blaine's.

What's a crush? I don't know what that is but I want one with Blaine! Kurt thought.

Kurt enjoyed himself a lot that night and Blaine even let him stay up until 9:15, it was the best night ever!

Every Friday night for the next 9 months, Kurt's parents went out and hired Blaine to babysit, Kurt didn't complain about how he 'didn't need a babysitter' anymore, as long as it was Blaine. Sometimes Blaine would come alone, sometime's he'd come with Mollie but Kurt preferred it when it was just Blaine and Kurt, those nights were the most fun. They were the 'boys nights' as Blaine called them.

Kurt's parents stopped going out after his mom went to the hospital, apparently she was sick, like, really sick. She had to go into the hospital a lot and then her hair started to fall out and he lost a lot of weight. Eventually Kurt's mom had to live in the hospital but Kurt went to see her everyday, until one day...she wasn't there anymore. His dad explained to him that God thought she was too special to be on Earth and that he promoted her to angel to look after him and his dad.

Kurt didn't believe him, he saw on her hospital chart once that it said she had cancer and that she was going to die very soon.

If God loved her so much and thought she was so special, why did he give her cancer and take her away from Kurt?

That was the day Kurt stopped believing in 'God'.
