Amelia sat on her bed sorting through her history notes, trying to complete her study guide last minute. Finals were coming up and, as usual, she wasn't prepared. Her notes were scattered around her on her bed and it was now that she realized she should have spent less time doodling in her notes and should have actually taken down notes. She sat back and sighed, crumpling up a drawing of a turtle with a crown.
Suddenly, she felt the buzz- buzz- buzz of her phone ringing and she dug through the papers. It was Rose and she quickly answered.
"Hey!" She greeted.
"Hey Amelia!" Rose responded. "So, you're going to Liz's graduation party right?"
Amelia pondered for a minute. She hadn't heard anything about this yet, and honestly, she didn't want to go. Liz lived the farthest away, nearly three hours upstate and in the middle of nowhere.
"Well, I guess so. I mean, maybe. Probably. Honestly, I don't want to, we should just boycott." Amelia groaned and she could tell Rose agreed with her.
"That would be fantastic, but I don' think so. Anyway, then we couldn't hang out."
"This is true."
"Which is why I wanted to call you. I want to make bets early. No last minute bullshit, I'm legit with this one." Rose explained, suddenly adopting a business-like tone of voice.
"Okay, shoot." Amelia answered apprehensively.
"Alright, $50 that Blaine's date is…" Rose started but abruptly stopped as she thought it over.
"His date is what?!" Amelia demanded to know; she didn’t particularly enjoy suspense.
"Kurt." Rose replied.
"Oh." Amelia was taken back. Seriously, Kurt? Sure, after Colin's communion she couldn't deny the feeling that Kurt was something special. And yeah, maybe he was something special, but when reality set in later on Amelia could tell this was probably the end. "Look, Rose, I'm going to be realistic here and advise you not to do that. Kurt was cool but I mean, Blaine brought him twice. I think betting on Blaine bringing him again is seriously pushing your luck."
"Oh come on Amelia! This one is different! I know it!" Rose protested, but Amelia rolled her eyes.
"Really? Different? How do you know?"
"Well for one, while you were still outside and they were cutting cake, your brother slipped an 'I love you' to Kurt before feeding him a bite of cake. Bet you never heard those words come out of his mouth. Well, you know, at least not to one of his boy toys." Rose answered, her voice sounding snarky.
Amelia was speechless. She didn't see that one coming. Maybe Rose wasn't so off with her bet.
But this was Blaine. Blaine, whose longest relationship lasted four months and that was in eleventh grade. That was five years of casual flings, what was the chance that anything or anyone could possibly change that?
"Look Rose, I know you're a hopeless romantic and all that, but really, this is Blaine." Amelia hoped she could get Rose to see he point of view, but Rose was stubborn and Amelia knew that.
"Well, I mean, yeah it is Blaine. But you're his sister, you should know this stuff."
"Rose, it's not that easy. It's not like how it is on TV, you know the sappy brother and sister with a ridiculous age difference that somehow manage to be best friends. I mean, I love Blaine and I'm sure he loves me, but you don't just talk about that kind of stuff with your older brother." Amelia answered. Rose was an only child and any knowledge she had on siblings was from television sitcoms and observing her cousins. In her mind, brothers and sisters were closer than friends and knew everything about each other, but Amelia knew better. She and Blaine were close, but they had five years between them. She just couldn't bring herself to sharing all of her trials and tribulations with a twenty-two year old guy.
"Well, I don't know what it's like." Rose sighed. She longed for a brother or sister and was always jealous of her cousins. "Maybe you could change that. You should try to talk to him. You might help him out."
Amelia laughed. Yeah, talk to Blaine, that'll definitely help she thought. "Alright, I'll think about it, but I have a ton of studying to do and it's only 10 am. Bye!" She hung up and laughed again at her cousin's idea. Ridiculous.
But Rose's voice stuck in her head.
"You should try to talk to him. You might help him out."
She spent the next two hours trying to focus, but found herself thinking of Blaine. He never really did talk to any family about his love life, or anything at all. The only possibility was if he said anything to their older brother Cooper, but that was unlikely. Cooper only came home from Los Angeles once a year for Christmas, and he and Blaine weren't very close since they had a ten year age difference. The most she'd heard was what Kurt had to say at Colin's communion party. He did say they were serious, or at least he felt they were.
Amelia threw down her notes on the Civil War and grabbed her phone.
"This is a horrible idea…" She said to herself, but even so, she found Blaine's contact in her phone and suddenly she had the phone up to her ear.
"Hey, Meil worm, what's up?" Blaine answered his phone with a concerned voice. It didn't surprise her, she rarely called Blaine and he probably thought there was some kind of emergency.
"Nothing really. What's up with you?" She asked, nonchalantly.
"Uh, well, not much either. I, uh, just made some lunch." He answered confused. "Are you okay? I mean, you never really call, I just want to be sure nothing's wrong."
"No!" She laughed, "Nothing's wrong. Hey, is it cool if I come visit you?"
Amelia had no clue what she was getting herself into, she didn't even realize what she said until she said it. Any time she went into the city to see her brother was scheduled weeks ahead of time and she was always with her parents. She knew Blaine must have been extremely worried and she never thought he'd be cool with it. Like Amelia, Blaine wasn't a fan of spontaneity. Every time she visited, she could tell he had cleaned his apartment and prepared for visitors.
"Sure, sure. Come on over, you know where I live, right?" He responded, still sounding shocked.
"Yeah, I should be there in an hour maybe? See you later!" She hung up and put down her phone. What did I just do? She thought. But it was too late. She was going to go talk to her brother.
The ferry and subway ride were surprisingly short for a Saturday, but she didn't mind. The whole time she tried to convince herself that is was perfectly normal for a sister to make a spontaneous visit to her brother's apartment to talk about his complex love life. Perfectly normal.
Amelia managed to make her way through the confusing streets of Greenwich Village and to Blaine's apartment. She stood in front of his door and took a deep breath. She lifted her hand and knocked three times, thinking that by some chance he wouldn't be there. But he was. Blaine opened the door and a smile grew on his face.
"Hey you! Come on in!" Blaine hugged his sister and led her inside.
His apartment was small compared to their home, but for an apartment in the city it was a good size. Amelia could tell he didn't plan on having guests over any time soon, as there were clothes, books and papers strewn across the floor.
"Okay Amelia, I'm gooing skip through all the stupid stuff and get right to the point. I know you, you don't just do things for no reason, you're not like that. So, what are you doing here?" Blaine asked.
"Jesus, Blaine. So what, a sister can't visit her older brother without an ulterior motive?" She answered, laughing and taking a seat at his kitchen table. Blaine laughed, shook his head and joined her.
"Well, I suppose you're right. But not when that sister’s name is Amelia Anderson. Look, It's great to have you here and I'm happy to be hanging out with you, but, come on Meil worm, you never do this. What's going on?" Blaine reached out and squeezed her hand. He could feel something was up with his sister and it worried him. Amelia was never like this and he didn't want to beat around the bush. "Look, you can tell me anything."
"Blaine, um, I wanted to talk about…well, how can I put this…Blaine, I want to talk to you about you love life."
Blaine choked on the sip of coffee he was taking and his eyes grew wide with shock. His sister wanted to talk about his love life? What the hell could have brought on this? He thought. He tried to respond but couldn't find the words.
"Let's go get some ice cream." He suggested, and before his sister could say anything else, they were outside and walking down the street.
They made it to the ice cream shop and then to Washington Square Park with minimal conversation. Only Blaine asking which flavor ice cream Amelia wanted and directing her towards the park.
They sat down on the black marble benches in Washington Square Park and quietly ate their ice cream while they observed the people walking by.
"Meil, why do you want to know about my love life? I mean, that's a pretty odd request coming from you." Blaine said, breaking the silence.
Amelia took her eyes off of a mother holding her baby's hand as she ran towards a flock of pigeons and looked up at her brother. She began to panic, and looked down at her lap. She had prepped herself for this from the second she stepped out of her front door and now she actually had to talk? She tried to come up with the words she needed to say. She could hear them in her head but when she tried to speak she couldn't. She couldn't bring herself to say them.
"Blaine, you're okay, right?" She managed to ask, trying to show her genuine care for her brother while avoiding the question.
But that was all she wanted to know. She wanted to know if Kurt made him happy, if they would stay together for more than another party, if Kurt was that something different that Blaine needed. Overall, she just needed to know that he was okay.
And Blaine got it. He saw past the simplicity of the question and found the real meaning. He could see in his sister’s eyes that she meant more. She really did care about him. Blaine gently held his sister's forearm and smiled down on her.
"I'm perfect." He answered simply.
Amelia smiled and nodded in reply. She got it, too. There was so much more she wanted to know, but she knew she wasn't ready to ask it yet. With time, maybe, when their relationship was stronger, but this was not the right time.
Blaine stood up, brushed off his pants and held his hand out to Amelia.
"Come on, let's go get some popcorn and watch a movie like we used to do when mom and dad weren't home." He suggested.
Amelia took his hand and grinned. She was surprised that Blaine even thought of this small tradition they had had before he moved out. Her parents often were away on business trips or out for the night at benefits and events. Their older brother, Cooper, moved out when Amelia was young, so once they had outgrown babysitters, it would be just her and Blaine on those nights. Blaine would make a huge bowl of popcorn and they'd sit on the couch watching a movie. Usually, it was a musical and they'd sing along, and if they knew the movie well enough, they would act out the parts.
They sat together on Blaine's couch watching one of their favorites, La Cage Aux Folles, with a big bowl of popcorn just like they used to do. Kurt had gone home to Ohio with his parents after his graduation for two weeks and Blaine stayed back in New York to finish some classes he needed to graduate. It was just like old times and Amelia felt a sense of nostalgia as they recited the movie line for line. After Blaine left for the city their relationship had weakened. He wasn't far from home, only a ferry ride away, but he was always busy and it really came down to only seeing him and family parties and the odd weekend.
Suddenly Amelia knew she couldn't wait for Liz's party.

I like this story. And I am all excited to see if Kurt is there again. Will it be from their Point of view soon? Or will you stay with Amelias point of view? :)
Yes! There will be some Klaine POV in the near future! Thank you for reading!
