Blaine smiled to himself, leaving the bag by the sofa and going to join Finn and Burt in the den. Both were watching an old football re-run, analysing every play in great detail. A piece of turquoise tinsel fell over the television causing Burt to grumble and get up to move it.
Just as he'd fixed it back in place the door slammed open and a young girl with wild curly hair came charging in, flinging herself into Burt's arms.
"Grandpa, Lacie's not playing fair, she won't share her new ball with me." The little girl pouted and looked up at Burt with sulky brown eyes.
"Is that so? Did you ask nicely or did you just try taking it?" A flicker of guilt graced the child's features, but before she could respond another, older girl walked in huffily.
"She snatched it." Lacie told Burt, flicking her long brown hair over her shoulders in an uncanny impression of her mother.
"Calleigh, what have I told you about snatching? If you want to share something you need to use the magic word." Blaine reprimanded his daughter who was currently throwing daggers at her cousin.
"But Dad, Lacie never asks." She turned big puppy dog eyes on Blaine.
"Do I need to get your Father?" Burt raised an amused eyebrow and watched as Calleigh adamantly shook her head. She hopped off Burt's knee and walked carefully over to her cousin.
"Pleeaase can I play with your ball Lacie?" She clasped her hands behind her back, looking the picture of innocence.
"Nope!" Lacie giggled and ran out, nearly knocking her very pregnant Mom over in the process. Calleigh chased after her, all innocent pretense forgotten in favour of bawling loudly. Rachel shook her head at them and squeezed her way between Finn and Blaine.
"Finn I think we need to talk to Lacie, She's going to have a brother of her own soon and she has to share." Finn snorted and failed to cover it up with a cough. Rachel shot him an angry look.
"I'm sorry, it's just, you really aren't that good at sharing. maybe it's just like Mother like Daughter?"
Burt slapped a hand over his forehead while Blaine shook his head in disbelief that Finn still managed to get himself in these situations after all this time.
"Well if that's how you feel then you can go sort them out." Finn's mouth dropped open and he looked to Blaine as if he had no idea what he'd done. He stood up and trudged out of the room. Rachel looked close to tears. Burt and Blaine exchanged looks before Burt stood up muttering something about watching Finn and left. Blaine looked over at the now sniffling Rachel and scooted closer.
"Come here" He wrapped his arms around her whiel deftly texting Kurt. Rachel allowed herself to be pulled into Blaine's embrace.
"He j-just doesn't u-understand. H-he thinks this is e-easy." Blaine had no idea how to calm her so he just held his sister-in-law and stroked her hair gently.
She'd begun babbling about discipline just as Kurt walked in. He took one look at the soggy Rachel clinging to his husband and snuggled in on her other side, she immediately clung to his Marc Jacobs sweater, pulling Blaine with her. Kurt resumed the stroking of her hair and spoke to her in hushed tones. A few minutes and watery chuckles later and Kurt had her calmed down enough that Blaine felt it safe to sit back a bit from her. He smiled at Kurt and mouthed a grateful 'Thank you'. Kurt grinned back.
Five minutes later had Rachel fast asleep, her head lolling on his shoulder, Carole arrived to relieve Kurt, they swapped places carefully to avoid waking her up. Kurt moved to cuddle with Blaine on the two-seater. The room remained quiet and peaceful until Finn arrived with a sniffling Calleigh.
"She fell over and hurt her knee, I tried cuddling her but she just kept saying she wanted Daddy." He handed the little girl to Kurt and Blaine, she instantly snuggled between them, wiping her nose on her pink sleeve and then her arm on Blaine's jeans. Kurt rolled his eyes fondly and pulled her onto his knee.
"It hurts Daddy."
"I know sweetie, show me." She raised her leg gingerly as if to prove how bad it was. Kurt glanced at the barely - there graze and ran a thumb over it.
"Oh yes, I can see. Do we need to kiss it better?" Calleigh nodded enthusiastically. Both Kurt and Blaine swooped down to press a little kiss to her knee and a chaste one to each-others lips as they sat back up.
"Ew! I'm all better now, stop being gross!" With that she jumped off their laps and raced back outside, closely followed by a chuckling Finn.
