"Mmm?"
"I gotta go."
"Why?" Kurt tried to convince himself that he hadn't sounded so whiny... Or desperate.
Blaine's eyes softened. He leaned down and gave Kurt a soft, chaste kiss.
"My dad's an ass, but that's a story I'll save for another day." Blaine winked and pulled himself off of the warm bed, Kurt following.
The two ascended the stairs and Blaine waved goodbye to Kurt's dad, a strained smile on his face. Once they were safely out of the house and on the front porch Kurt turned to Blaine, confused.
"Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" Blaine knit his eyebrows together.
"I noticed it earlier. You're, like, really tense around my dad. I know he's kind of intimidating, but-"
"It's not just your dad," Blaine cut him off, "Most of the adults I've met take one look at my..."
Blaine gestured to his piercings and combat boots, "And judge the shit out of me. I'm so used to automatically hating them. I just dont want to do that with your dad... Especially after all the things you've told me about him."
He paused, running a hand through his curls, "I guess it's just my night to dump emotional crap on you."
"Just be yourself, Blaine. He'll see the amazing person you are," Kurt cupped the other boy's cheek.
"You think I'm amazing?" Blaine raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
"You are to me," Kurt smiled and pulled him into a tight hug, "Tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow," Blaine smiled crookedly.
Kurt nodded and backed toward the door, "Goodnight."
Blaine walked to his dad's car that he'd dropped off earlier. He waved and climbed into the driver's seat of the mercedes.
Kurt watched him drive away, smiling. He couldn't remember a more perfect night. It was heartbreaking, but, in a way, all of the sadness brought them closer.
If only he could find a way to introduce Blaine to his dad and friends as his boyfriend. Kurt grimaced at the empty spot where Blaine's car had just been. He had absolutely no problems with Blaine. He loved that he was himself, with the piercings and black and leather clothes, but he knew how other people saw him.
And besides general appearance, Blaine had a tendency to be kind of an ass... To everyone. Kurt sighed and headed back into the house.
"Dad?" he called, walking toward the kitchen.
His dad pulled a perfectly made lasagna out of the oven and sat it on the counter. Kurt was almost worried, until he spotted the note from Carole with step by step reheating directions.
"Want me to cut you a piece?" his dad gestured towards the pan.
Kurt would usually remark on the obscene amount of calories and cut up a salad for himself, but he was far too hungry to make the extra effort. Instead, he nodded and grabbed a few plates out of the cabinet.
Kurt skipped letting the pasta cool and began shoving his face. The hot tomato sauce scorched his tongue and the roof of his mouth. His dad gave him a strange look before shrugging and beginning to do the same.
"So," his dad shoved another bite into his mouth. He leaned back in his chair and chewed slowly.
Kurt looked up from his plate, to where his father sat, arms crossed.
"How long have you two been dating?"
Kurt froze. He set his fork down carefully, wincing at the sharp noise that it made when it hit the china plate. He swallowed the half chewed food and stared, wide eyed at his dad.
"How... How did you know?"
"C'mon, Kurt," Burt shook his head, "Anyone in Ohio could see it. That boy looks at you like you're pure gold."
Kurt blushed and adverted his eyes back to his food that he wasn't quite hungry for anymore. His father had seen him and Blaine together for what? Four minutes?
"Kurt," he looked back up from the lasagna, "I'm happy for you. I am," his dad grinned and shrugged, "I just wish you would've told me."
Kurt smiled and nodded, a little dazed by the unexpected reaction. He was almost certain Burt would attempt to run background checks on Blaine.
"So," Burt began eating again, "Is he good to you? He's not pressuring you or anything, is he?"
"No," Kurt insisted, pushing his food around until deciding he was finished, "He's kind of amazing, actually. He's just..." Kurt grasped for the right words, "Rough around the edges. He's... Been through a lot."
Burt nodded gravely, "You kids shouldn't have to go through that crap," he pulled that days newspaper open, "But I'm glad that you have someone now, kiddo... I'm glad you have each other."
Kurt nodded, smiling faintly as he scrubbed the red stains off of the china plate, "Yeah, me too."
