How the rose in your heart you hold
Still all the water in your wells won't make it grow,"
Blaine strummed his guitar softly. Dr. Kelly had said the only way he'd allow him to test his theory was if he stayed quiet. The silent audience of the empty hospital room had been intimidating, but once Blaine lost himself in the music he couldn't even notice.
"Oh, the call of the nightingale
How I love beneath the ghostly sails
We move like gypsies 'neath the mist and beneath the gloom
Oh, how the river flows
Under the ice and snow
The keeper of the flame
The rose captain knows my name
This perfume breath I breathed,"
Blaine dropped his voice lower and held the guitar strings, "For you my dear, my love will never leave."
He played through the music, letting his eyes drift from Kurt's face to the monitors to check for any signs. Other than a quicker heartbeat, nothing seemed to change.
"This part's for my love of new
How the bulbs in my heart are true
They send the shoots through my fingers into your bones," Blaine closed his eyes and focused on putting his heart into the words.
"Oh, the call of the collared dove
How I long to be your one true love
We'll move like gypsies 'neath the stars and beneath the moon
Oh, how the river flows
Under the ice and snow
The keeper of the flame
The rose captain knows our names
This perfume breath we breathed."
Blaine opened his eyes to Kurt's still sleeping face. He could feel his disappointment dripping into the lyrics as he sang the last lines a cappella, "For you my dear, my love,
Will never leave."
Blaine picked up the strumming and thoughtlessly mumbled the fade out verses,
"Oh, the rose captain knows, knows our names
Oh, the rose captain knows, he knows our names."
The song came to a close and Blaine had nothing to show for it. He was sure that if anything could wake Kurt it would be music.
Blaine slumped forward in his chair and laced his fingers behind his neck. Maybe it had been just been the song, or maybe it was his voice...
"Blaine?"
Blaine pulled his head up to turn to the doorway. Finn stood awkwardly, holding Blaine's cell. He shifted back and forth before crossing the room, handing Blaine his phone, and then walking back to stand in the doorway.
Blaine quirked an eyebrow. He would've laughed under different circumstances. But he had decided he would try his best to be on good terms with Finn.
"Yeah. Your phone rang in the lobby and I saw it was your dad, so I picked it up," he shot an apologetic look at Blaine who nodded, despite his annoyance, "Anyway, he uh... He said to come home, like, now."
Finn rubbed the back of his neck uncomfortably, "He sounded pretty pissed."
Blaine shrugged and turned back to Kurt, "Thanks for answering, but next time just let it ring. That's what I do."
"I don't know-"
"Thanks, Finn," Blaine said, trying to sound as final as possible.
"Yeah... Yeah. Your welcome," Finn said wearily before his footsteps echoed out of the room.
Blaine rubbed his eyes and slumped forward again. He couldn't give up trying... but what could he do?
---
He should've known something was wrong when he pulled into the driveway. there were lights on in the house, and it was past ten. Blaine never saw lights after nine, in fact, his father made it a point to not leave any on for him.
Blaine tried not to think about it though. He trudged up the walkway, too tired to do any damage to the perfect lawn. The house was silent, Blaine didn't even have to slam the door to make it loud.
Usually, he would just head straight for his room, but something held him back.
"Hello?" He called as he walked into the kitchen.
He stopped in the doorway. Trent sat with a bottle of whiskey at the perfectly refurbished dining table. He made no acknowledgement of Blaine's entrance. He kept his eyes on the wood floor.
"Tell me, Blaine," Trent spoke casually, "Would this be a new record?" He took a drink from bottle and slowly pulled his head up to meet his son's gaze.
Blaine fought the urge to look away. Even from across the oversized kitchen, his father's sneer still burned. He tried to match the look of disgust and arrogance, but he knew he'd never get it right.
"What are you-"
"Suspended for six weeks in your first few months at a new school," Trent drawled, "Bravo."
"You should've gotten that call four days ago," Blaine said, confused.
Trent shrugged and took another drink, "I have better things to do than worry about you."
"Like fucking your barely legal girlfriend?" Blaine chuckled humorlessly, "Or planning new ways to piss me off?"
"They told me about that boy being knocked into a coma," Trent traced his ring finger around the mouth of the whiskey, "That teacher on the phone said you two were pretty close..."
Blaine stayed frozen, showing no emotion as his father continued, "Is that where you've been going everyday? To see your faggot boyfriend?"
Blaine blinked and he was across the room. His father was on the ground, the chair toppled over, and his hand clenched in a fist. He breathed out his nose, trying to fight back his anger.
Trent smiled from the ground and wiped at the blood that was running from his nose, "He probably didn't even fight back. I never knew you were into twinks, Blaine."
A red veil crossed over Blaine's vision. The only thing he could see or think was his hatred for his father. He was on top of him in seconds, swinging with every ounce of strength he had built up. Trent did nothing but laugh and squirm.
"Stop!" a high-pitched screech echoed through the kitchen, "Don't kill him! Stop!"
A wave of blonde suddenly appeared in front of Blaine. His dad's girlfriend pulled and punched Blaine's back, but it didn't do anything but annoy him.
"Stop!" she shrieked again. She stood and swung her leg out by Blaine's face. Her foot hit his nose and sent his backward in pain.
"Shit, Barbie!" Blaine shouted.
The blonde paid no attention. She ran her hands over Trent's face, searching for injury. He pushed her hand away and sat up to glare at his son.
They both sat, sprawled out on the cold wood floor, breathing heavily. Blaine hit the ground with his fist and stood to leave.
"Don't ever talk about him again."
He grabbed his keys and jogged out of the house, leaving his beaten father and his pampered girlfriend behind.
---
Sneaking back into the Kurt's hospital wing had been easier than Blaine thought. He quietly crept into the small room and shut the door behind him.
Though it was after hours, Blaine still knew when Dr. Kelly would come in for his check ups. He had unconsciously memorized the doctor's entire schedule one especially boring day.
Blaine crossed the room to Kurt's bed. He grabbed the other boy's hand and held on tightly. He knew the words that he would speak before he left his dad's house.
"First, I want to say that I'm sorry. I should've never left you alone with Karofsky around. I know that the reason you're even in a coma is my fault. And I'll never forgive myself for putting you in here.
"Second, I want you to know that I love you. No matter what happens, or what may come, I'll still love you. I know we haven't known each other for a long time, but we didn't have to. I knew that I'd love you ever since I saw your beautiful blue eyes," Blaine took a deep breath and continued.
"Third, I know you can pull through this. I know how strong and brave you are. And I know that after all of this, we'll still be together."
Blaine squeezed Kurt's hand tighter. He ignored the tears in his eyes as he kissed his knuckles. He had an idea, and if it didn't work, nothing would.
"A drop in the ocean,
A change in the weather,
I was praying that you and me might end up together.
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert,
But I'm holding you closer than most,
'Cause you are my heaven.
I don't wanna waste the weekend,
If you don't love me, pretend
A few more hours, then it's time to go.
And as my train rolls down the East coast,
I wonder how you keep warm.
It's too late to cry, too broken to move on.
Still I can't let you be,
Most nights I hardly sleep.
Don't take what you don't need, from me.
Just a drop in the ocean,
A change in the weather,
I was praying that you and me might end up together.
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert,
But I'm holding you closer than most,
'Cause you are my heaven.

Never counting the regrets,
By the grace of God, I do not rest at all.

You are my heaven."
Blaine finished the song and laid his head onto the bed. He let his silent tears fall and drip onto the light blanket.
"I think I might've enjoyed the song more if you hadn't been strangling my hand, but it was still amazing."
Blaine tilted his head up to see beautiful blue eyes staring back at him. Kurt smiled warmly and brushed a tear away from his own cheek.
Blaine threw himself onto the other boy, enveloping him in a crushing hug. He pulled back to see a wide smile on Kurt's face. He brought his hand to cup Kurt's cheek and captured his boyfriend's lips in a kiss.
"Oh, and..." Kurt broke the kiss and locked eyes with Blaine, "I love you, too."

A few tears shed during this chapter. I'm happy with it. P.S. Sorry about your friend's loss.
I enjoyed the new chapter. Thank you :)
Tell her we're thinking of her! That's really hard, I can't imagine dealing with that. But you sound like a great friend so she is lucky. Also, great story! Can't wait for more (: SO glad to see Kurt wake up!
oh my god, I cried like a baby during the end. awesome chapter :)
I'm so sorry about your friend's dad. I know what it's like to lose someone close to you. My grandpa died a little less than a year ago and it still affects me. I felt empty for a long time, I still do sometimes, but time numbs the pain and so do good friends. Just stick with her and she'll be okay.
Hold your friend's hand. Words aren't necessary. Thanks for bringing Kurt out of the coma. I send you strength to help your friend.
I adore this story 100000x more , just because you used a ron pope song :)
Asdjxjdokwndkl I love you, stranger. ;D And thanks!
I've been reading this and honestly, if I wasn't dying to read the next happier every time, I would have reviewed because every chapter has been so amazing :) As for your friend, I can only say how sorry I am for her and her sister. I couldn't possibly imagine what it must be like for them, but I pray for them to stay strong and hold on to what they still have :)
