"Sorry, sorry," Kurt mumbled as he woke himself up, yet again.
"I told you to sleep," Blaine smiled, "Stop apologizing."
Kurt sighed and rubbed his tired eyes, "Thats rude. I wouldn't do that."
"I told you it's fine," Blaine turned to Kurt, a concerned look on his face, "Are you sure you don't just want to go tomorrow? If you're too tired, we could just go watch a movie at your house or something," he started to slow the truck down.
"No, no. I'm fine. See?" Kurt sat up straighter and forced his eyes to open wide, "Wide awake."
Blaine rolled his eyes, but sped back up, passing the exit that led back to Lima. Kurt tried to focus on staying awake, but Blaine had three seats in the front, and they were just begging him to lay down on them.
Kurt sighed and moved to the middle. He pulled up his legs on the other seat and before he could even consider what he was doing, he snuggled up to Blaine's arm and rested his head on his shoulder.
Everything smelled like Blaine. He breathed in the scent, old spice and sandal wood. He felt warm skin against his forehead. Blaine chuckled and rubbed the other boy's arm affectionately. Kurt was pretty sure he could die happy in that moment.
"So... Coffee?" Blaine asked, glancing down at Kurt and quirking an eyebrow.
"Mmm, coffee," Kurt nuzzled his head into the crook of Blaine's neck and sighed.
Kurt stayed contently in this position, Blaine occasionally pressing kisses into his hair, until they reached the closest Starbucks.
Blaine pulled into the parking space and turned off the engine. Kurt stayed still.
"Kurt, I can't get coffee if you don't move," Blaine whispered to the exhausted lump that was Kurt.
Kurt fought back chills as he lifted his head to see the other boy. Blaine watched him fondly, only inches away. They both were still until Blaine finally rolled his eyes and leaned forward, capturing Kurt's waiting lips in a kiss.
Kurt sighed into it, allowing Blaine to pull him close and cup the back of his neck.
"I'll be right back," Blaine's words ghosted over his lips.
Suddenly the heavy warmth of Blaine's hand disappeared from Kurt's face. The truck door slammed and he was gone. Kurt watched him enter the coffee shop, his shoulders shaking with laughter.
Kurt huffed and crossed his arms.
"Crap."
He'd forgotten to tell Blaine what to get him. Kurt seriously didn't want to vacate the nice, toasty warm cab of the truck, but he also didn't want to be stuck drinking black coffee.
Kurt groaned and opened the door to the blistering cold Ohio winter. He jogged to the front doors and let them fall shut behind him, ringing with golden bells. He spotted Blaine, last in line.
Maybe it was the heated air or maybe just the hot coffee, but it seemed that every coffee joint during the last week or so had been completely packed. Blaine had at least nine people in front of him.
"You're kind of cute," Kurt smiled, leaning into Blaine's shoulder, "If only I wasn't already seeing someone..."
"Didn't want to wait in the car?" Blaine grinned.
"Actually I forgot to tell you what to get me, so I thought I'd join you," Kurt said as they stepped forward in line, "Plus it's my turn to pay."
Blaine shook his head, "It's fine, Kurt, I probably won't buy anything at the mall anyways."
"Aha, but you don't have full permission from your father to run up his credit card bill," Kurt rolled his eyes, remembering the morning, "He owes me."
Blaine looked like he wanted to ask, but didn't, "Just for the record, I already knew your coffee order."
"Really now?" The doors rang faintly behind them, "Prove it."
"Large non fat mocha, extra cinnamon."
"Wow," Kurt looked at him, quite impressed, "Nice work, Anderson."
Blaine shrugged and wrapped an arm around Kurt's waist. The gesture still gave him butterflies.
"Fags," a voice whispered from behind them, along with a disgusted sound.
Kurt's stomach flipped. No, no, no. Not here. Not now.
Kurt looked to Blaine, who stood smiling, but it didn't reach his eyes. Before Kurt could stop it, he whipped them around to face the two men behind them.
Both were probably in their mid twenties, maybe still in college. Kurt couldn't help but wince under their disgusted looks. He felt Blaine's nails dig into his back.
"Is there a problem or something?" Blaine asked, still holding the icy smile.
"Yeah. I didn't come here to watch gay porn," the bigger of the two spat.
"You're right. You probably do enough of that on your computer," Blaine glared at the two.
"Look," the other spoke, "Just grab your twink boyfriend and-"
"What the fuck did you just call him?" Blaine lost it, he stepped forward, pulling his arm back to swing.
Kurt's mind raced. He knew how this would go. Blaine would punch him, probably beat his ass, then get pegged for assault. He wouldn't think twice about it.
Kurt grabbed his boyfriend's arm, "Blaine, no. Let's just go," he begged.
Blaine stopped and turned to him. The rage in his eyes faded and before he could change his mind, Kurt dragged him toward the door.
He ignored the laughter behind him and pulled the keys out of Blaine's pocket, pushing him toward the passenger seat. Kurt turned to get into the truck, but something caught his eye.
A cherry red mustang was now parked beside them. A cherry red mustang that could only belong to two people.
Kurt acted on instinct. He dug the key in his hand into the immaculate paint. He walked along the car, enjoying the metallic screech of the metal on metal. Once there was a significantly huge white line across the entire right side, he turned toward the door and smiled, hoping that the two assholes saw him.
---
They rode home in silence. Blaine keeping his eyes out the window, Kurt keeping his on the highway in front of him.
An hour later Kurt pulled into his driveway. He unlocked the front door, listening to Blaine's footsteps behind him. He headed straight to the basement, taking the stairs two at a time, Blaine echoing.
Kurt wasn't sure where to go from there. He stared at what was before him; his bed, his couch, some pillows still littering the floor. He clenched his fists at his sides and relaxed them over and over, then sighed.
He started to turn, when Blaine crashed into him. He fused their lips together and clutched Kurt's sides. Blaine walked them toward the bed and leaned down on top of the other boy.
They only stopped kissing to breathe. Blaine attached himself to Kurt, kissing him desperately, like he needed it. Like he couldn't live without it. Kurt knotted his fingers into Blaine's hair, pulling him closer.
"How could this ever be wrong?" Blaine whispered in-between kisses.
Kurt shook his head, framing Blaine's face with his hands, "It's not. It never will be," Kurt pressed kisses along the other boy's jawline, "It's perfect."
"Perfect," Blaine echoed in Kurt's ear.
"We can't let them bring us down," Kurt locked their eyes together, "We can't ever let them take that from us."
Blaine closed his eyes, leaning his forehead against Kurt's, "Never."
