Chapter Nine

It had been seven days since Kurt had decided to call off his and Blaines - he refused to call it a fling - deal, and to be completely honest, neither of them were too happy about it. Kurt had seen a rapid change in Blaine since he had decided that he no longer wanted a relationship (if thats what it was) like theirs. He wanted someone who he actually loved. He didnt love Blaine, not in that way anyway. Blaine had gone back to being miserable, and although it wasnt much better before, it was worse now. None of them could comprehend why they were so broken up about it. They hadnt held a proper conversation since, only a quick exchange of clothing before Blaine was due on stage.

"Kurt, can I speak with you for a second?" Kurt turned around and lowered the weights in his hands. Kurt was wearing a black tank with black sweatpants, he was obviously working out.

"What is it, Dad?" He asked, approaching his father.

"How long have you been doing that?" Burt pointed to the metal weights that had been discarded on the ground.

"Only about half hour, I usually do it for an hour." Kurt wiped his forehead to rid the sweat. He needed a shower, badly.

"Well I need to speak to you."

"Okay?"

"Its about what I said to you the other day. I told you we werent finished with the conversation." Burt said.

Kurt rolled his eyes, "Dad, honestly, I know. Dont go throwing myself around at anyone. And Im not, I promise. I ended it between me and-"

"You and who, Kurt? Ended it? How long has it been going on for?"

"All we did was make out, I mean, we were going to go further but-" Kurt was interrupted by someone knocking on the door. The door opened and in walked Blaine, wearing jeans and his leather jacket had made a return. Kurt thought better than to make a snide remark.

"I uh, left my towel in here," He rushed to where his towel was, with a small glance at Kurt - as if longing - and then slammed the door. This exchange did not go unnoticed by Burt.

"It was him, wasnt it?"

"W-what?" Kurt replied, confused.

"This guy youve been messing around with, it was Blaine wasnt it?"

"Why would you think that, Dad?" Kurt asked.

"Kurt, I may be getting old but youre my son and Im not stupid. I saw the way you both looked at each other and I saw how when he walked in here you suddenly went all quiet and fidgety. Hes obviously upset about it, kid."

"Well I had to."

"Why? I thought you hated the guy in the first place, why make out with him?"

"Dad, please, stop with all the questions. I need to shower and then we can talk." Kurt said, "I feel disgusting."

"Okay, but Ill be waiting."

After stepping out of the shower and changing out of his sweats, Kurt felt refreshed and ready to talk it out. He was glad his father was here, even if it was only for a couple of days longer. He loved Isabelle but she sometimes (always) liked to gossip. While the crew was busy rushing around and setting up the stage, Kurt wasnt to be called for another forty-five minutes. Burt had every intention of taking advantage of that.

"So tell me why, why the person you claim to hate? How did this happen?"

"Dad, please. One at a time."

"Okay," Burt replied, "When did this start?"

"Our first kiss was over two weeks ago. I guess it went from then."

"Fine, who started this whole thing?"

"Blaine did shove his tongue down my throat first, so I guess he did. And then we just agreed to it."

Burt grimaced, "Dont need all the juicy details. Why did you do it Kurt?"

"Because I liked the feeling of being able to kiss someone. I havent been in a relationship for a long time Dad, and I guessed I missed that feeling so when Blaine offered the chance, of course I was going to do it."

"I think you love him."

"W-what? Thats not possible. I dont even like him, that much."

"Thats what you tell yourself Kurt." Burt took a sip of the tea that Kurt had made for him, "You told everyone when you arrived that you hated him. And yeah, maybe you did. When you got here. You know something, the first time you called me you were on the phone for an hour and about fifty minutes of that hour were spent with you talking about Blaine, even though they were bad things, you were doing it subconsciously. You hadnt realised youd been doing it."

"I dont understand what that has to do with anything though."

"Even though you say you hate him, I dont think you do. I think you love him and youre struggling to come to terms with that. Im your dad Kurt, I know you."

"How can I love him? How is that even possible?"

"When you two had your little thing going on, did you both make a pact?"

"..Pact?"

"As in no feelings are allowed to be involved?"

Kurt nodded, he was close to tears.

"Then there you go, you told yourself not to and as a natural reaction, youve done the complete opposite. Kurt you can be very stubborn and hard to persuade, but just embrace the feeling. You love Blaine."

"Love is a strong word Dad."

"Yes, and love is also a strong feeling and I dont think you would be this upset if you didnt like him or just liked him. Do you get me?"

"I guess Ive never had the feeling of love before, past relationships had always been awkward. And love was never involved. How do you know all of this dad?"

"I put two and two together. You tell me you ended it a week today, and Ive been here for a couple days more than that. Now, when I first arrived, you and Blaine both were happy. Sure, Blaine was kinda arrogant with me but thats just him as a person. But then you ended it and things just went downhill. You stopped being happy and hanging around with people, you spent your time sleeping or exercising to keep yourself busy and every time I looked at Blaine, he looked as though someone had just kicked his puppy."

"Blaine doesnt have a puppy-"

"Figure of speech, kid. Youre in love with Blaine, you just need to realise that."

Burt got up, patted his sons shoulder and left the room, mumbling something about needing to call his wife who was back in Lima.

"Hey face-ache," Blaine looked up from his bottle of beer. "put that down. You have a show soon."

Blaine didnt listen to Ava. Having a fake relationship was hard work. He had to pretend around the whole crew who had no clue about him and it was definitely beginning to take its toll.

"Just leave me alone would you?" Blaine asked. At least he was trying to be polite, however it wasnt working.

"Look, Blaine. You never drink! Whats going on?" Ava sat down on the couch in Blaines dressing room. "Tell me."

"Just because you have to fake being my girlfriend in public, it doesnt mean you have to pretend when no one is around."

Ava was shocked by this. "Youre clearly pissed about something, so just tell me Blaine. Im your friend." She scooted closer to Blaine on the sofa.

"I love him, A. I do. I didnt think I could but I do and its so confusing."

Ava put her arm around him. "Who do you love? Kurt?"

Blaine looked at her and didnt say anything.

"Oh honey." And then came the tears.

"I love him and he doesnt love me back. He hates me." Blaine cried.

"Blaine, you dont know that."

"I do! He says that he hates me every chance he can get and every time it hurts. A lot of people hate me but it hurts hearing him say it." Blaines eyes were filled with tears, "I dont know why I love him, I mean for the first week we were at each others throats. Then by the next we were down each others throats. I never thought about it until I had time to myself, properly."

"Feelings get involved Blaine, you cant help how you feel." Ava scooted closer again, "Maybe you need someone to take your mind of Kurt." And then Ava was leaning in. She pressed her lips to Blaines, who was unresponsive, and pulled quickly away when the door opened.

Kurt leaned his head around the corner, trying to not look irritated by what he had just witnessed. "Sorry, I uh, I have your clothes here." He threw them on the sofa and they landed by Blaine, now usually Kurt would give them to him but he needed to avoid crying, and if he were honest, he was very close to it. And then Kurt was gone and Blaine was on his feet, forgetting about his clothes and running after Kurt.

"Kurt?" He shouted, fans were now entering the arena and he could hear their screams, the ones he was so very used to by now. "Have you seen Kurt anywhere?" He asked Brian.

"No but Blaine youre on in five and youre not even changed! GO!" Brian shouted but Blaine just ignored him and continued to run.

Turns out that Kurt liked to lift weights. Blaine opened the door and Kurts cheeks were red and slightly puffy. He had obviously been crying.

"What do you want?" Kurt asked, bitterness taking over his voice.

"What was all that about?"

"I should be asking you the same thing. Were you just playing me? Youre not really gay."

"I am."

"Last time I checked Ava wasnt a man."

"You checked?" Blaine joked, but Kurt didnt find it amusing.

"Shut up, Blaine!" Kurt continued to lift the metal objects.

"Why are you so angry anyway? Considering you hate me so much."

"Thats the thing! I dont hate you!" Kurt put the weights down and neared towards Blaine. "I love you. I love you and youre too blind to see that! But its okay, you go and be happy with Ava, good luck to you-mmph!"

Blaine strode across the room, a determined look upon his face and cupped Kurts face in his hands, pressing his lips - rather forcefully - against Kurts but Kurt wasnt complaining. He opened his mouth to grant Blaines tongue access and smiled into the kiss. Blaine led them both, not disconnecting their lips at all, to the couch in the room. It wasnt the comfiest but it would do for them. When Kurt finally pulled away, his cheeks flushed red and hair messed and dishevelled from Blaines wandering hands, he smiled.

"I love you too, idiot." Blaine whispered. He was panting and trying to catch his breath. And then Kurt was leaning in again.

The pair were interrupted when the door burst open and Brian stormed in, his eyes caught Blaine. "Blaine you have five minutes until youre on stage so get changed and go!"

"Okay, Im going!" With one last kiss to Kurts lips, he exited the room feeling ecstatic. Kurt could say he felt the exact same. Brian approached him.

"You do realise that you dating Blaine is completely unprofessional?" He asked.

Kurt looked at him confused. "We love each other."

"Yeah and thats great and all but its unprofessional Kurt. Youre his stylist. He cant exactly date you."

"And who are you? His father?"

"No but youre not ready for the attention youll get."

"I think I am, and how are you to know? Blaine and I love each other, surely thats enough." Kurt went to walk out of the room. It felt good to say that.

"Well dont go crying when things dont work out."

Kurt knew that he was only here for another few months. Yeah, the tour was a year long but Kurt wasnt going overseas with them. Would he and Blaine be able to do long distance?

He didnt want to think of that.

He didnt want to think of all the attention that he was going to get if they went public.

He thought about Blaine. About how he was standing on that stage doing what he loved to the people who loved him.

He stood to the side of the stage, watching with one of Blaines hairdressers, with eyes that only showed love and admiration.
