Chapter 1: Camp Klaine

"Come on Kurt, it'll be fun, you coming? It wouldn't be the same without you," Mercedes gave him puppy eyes as Kurt sat in between his girls at McKinley High Cafeteria.

"I hear there are going to be cute boys," Santana winked.

"We finally get a chance to show of our skills to our competition for regionals, you can't tell me your not the least bit interested, to see the looks on their faces," Rachel added with a groan from Tina who shook her head next to her.

Kurt sighed at the idea of the outdoors, but getting away from Lima did appeal to him. Mr Figgins had announced in honour of them winning last year sectionals they were allowed to go to a camp for a month with other show choir schools in order to find out more about who they are competing against, claiming it was friendly competition.

Also the bullying had increased, and so Figgins thought it'd be a good distraction.

The choir teachers would have their own camp on the other side and would check on things if anything got out of control. Everything was paid by the government.

"I'll have to ask my dad, a month is a long time, and he is still recovering from his heart attack, it wouldn't be right to just leave him, and school would be…"

"School would get us no where, if we keep getting slushied and un-noticed, we all know the only class we enjoy is glee-club anyway, it will be our big break, plus the boys have all agreed to it," Santana answered.

"You just had to mention girls, and they'd be into it," Kurt muttered.

"Whatever, stop being a kill joy" Santana said sitting back down in her seat.

"Please Kurt," Mercedes begged.

"I'll let you know this afternoon if I can come," Kurt compromised with Mercedes and Rachel leaping into his arms.'

"Easy I have to ask first!" Kurt squeaked.

"You have to come Kurt," Mercedes smiled, all the girls nodded.

Kurt wondered how his dad would take it and if he should just stay home...

Meanwhile….

"Can you believe it! We get to skip school for a whole month to go to a show camp!" Nick grinned like a 5 year old offered candy at Dalton Academy.

Blaine frowned at the enthusiasm of his friends and sat quietly in the Warblers room meeting.

Wes banged his gavel three times asking for order in the meeting so he could speak. The Warblers rolled their eyes and sat up to listen as David announced what schools were going.

"Don't forget those New Direction kids, they tied with us at Sectionals, and they had great dance moves," Wes recalled.

How could Blaine forget.

The pale boy singing in the background had been in his mind ever since.

"Girls!" The boys chanted at once. Blaine bit his bottom lip thinking about how he was going to get permission to go to the camp without the Warblers knowing about his background, only Wes and David knew about his father annoyance of him being gay.

His quiet did not go unnoticed as Wes and David watched him carefully. Blaine had not said a word since mention of the camp out of school for a month vacation for all the show choirs in the state.

"Blaine? Is everything okay?" Thad asked worriedly from the front of the council.

"Ah.. Yeah this is a great opportunity for us to show our talent right boys?" Blaine said too excitedly. They all cheered leaving him to think by himself in the corner again.

"The meeting is over, everyone needs to go home and get permission notes, bring them in tomorrow to me or David in the morning and we will discuss more then," Wes announced hitting the gavel on the table one last time. All the boys grabbed permission slips on the way out chatting excitedly. The council stopped Blaine on the way out.

"What's going on Blaine, you're usually excited about us performing in public," David raised an eyebrow. Wes nodded.

"Guys… I can't go, Nick will have to take cover for me,"

"What?" Both said in unison.

"Look… my father wouldn't accept it, he doesn't even know about those times I performed and its best we keep it that way, he isn't too thrilled about me singing in the first place, and a whole month away will just get him annoyed,"

"You're 18 right," Wes acknowledged.

"Yes… but…"

"No buts Blaine, the last time you came to us about a problem with your father, it was two years ago when you told him about getting into the Warblers, you don't even need a permission slip if you're 18, and I doubt your father will call like he hasn't since you came to Dalton Academy,"

"And we need you, you're our main man Blaine," David agreed.

"Alright, but if anything happens, I'm going to need you two to save my behind," Blaine grinned as they gave him a hug.

"That's my man!"

"You can count on us,"

Two days later Kurt was stuck in a hot stuffy bus, worrying about his outfit as the New Directions sang early Christmas songs. It was hard to get his father to agree, since the day they would come back would be on late Christmas. Burt hadn't had a problem with them going away for a month, he said it would be great for him and Carole to spend time together, and Kurt was relieved he wouldn't have to worry about Burt asking him how the bullying was going.

When Finn mentioned the dates, Kurt was fearful that his father would have another heart attack, luckily though Carole was there to calm him down, and consoled him on the fact that he would have to get used to them being away when they went to Collage, and sometimes that meant holidays.

"As long as you both call me at least 3 times a week, and be home in time for the end of Christmas," Burt sighed.

"Don't worry dad, I wouldn't miss Christmas with you for anything, we will be back in the afternoon on Christmas day anyway," Kurt promised as he hugged his father and kissed Carole on the cheek.

"Thanks dad!" Finn hugged Burt excitedly as his mother looked on in shock.

"Did you just call me dad?"

Silence.

Kurt wasn't sure how to feel. Sure Carole and Burt have been married for some time now but still...Burt was his father.

Burt was folding his arms. Carole broke out into a grin and Finn wasn't sure how to act.

"Ah.. Yeah I guess I did, I'm sorry I've just started to think you as one, and I guess I was excited with the idea of going to camp, and I…I'm not used to..." Burt laughed and hugged Finn silent.

"I'd be proud to call you my son, I always said that Finn," Burt patted his shoulder as Finn smiled.

Kurt felt himself shrink, but instead he got up and hugged both and went to his room.

"Thanks….for letting us go to the camp, I'm going to go pack, we leave tomorrow afternoon," Kurt faked a smile and left.

Here he was being selfish thinking he had to share his father with Finn as if it was going to change everything. Kurt hadn't said a word since they got in the bus, instead he quietly sang a long to the songs looking out the window. He had hugged his father goodbye with slight tears and every time Burt hugged Finn, he felt this pang in his stomach.

He loved Finn, but his father meant the world to him, it was a bond only they shared, and he couldn't give it up. Mercedes glanced at him every now and then and tried to encourage him to have fun, but Mr Shuester announced they were there an hour later.

The boys helped the girls get out of the bus, and Artie was let out first one to get out on his Wheelchair with the special bus provided that Figgins paid for them to represent McKinley school cutting the cheerios budget after Will explained that Sue sabotaged their list.

"Come on lets get our bags!" Mercedes grinned, as she put an arm under Kurt's shoulder and led him towards the huge pile of bags near the bus. Kurt grabbed all of his bags, which was at least 5 of them, two balancing in each hand, and Mercedes helped him with one as she only had two while looked at their surroundings.

It definitely looked like a camp. A big banner read "Show Choir Camp of 2010"

Cabins lined up on both sides, there was a bell girl at the end of the camp in a tall tower with a large building behind the tower that looked like it came from the medieval age. One of the teachers was yelling something in one of those carnival announcement objects, with a whistle around her neck. She was the eldest teacher they soon found out, and was headmaster of the camp.

Kurt and Mercedes stared in awe as they watched other students pile out of busses grabbing bags out of their own piles.

"We're here!" Jeff yelled down the isle of the bus as the boys cheered and hurried outside. Blaine got up nervously… still unsure if he should of came and as they all patted his shoulder on the way out.

"come on man!" David grinned pulling Blaine ahead. They reached their pile of bags, and instantly David and Wes straightened their clothes as they noticed a bunch of girls in another school opposite their bus.

"Its only polite to say hello right David?"

"Right Wes,"

"Can we get our bags first?" Blaine whined.

David and Wes pouted and gave him pleading looks.

"There are cheerleaders in the group! Singers and Cheerleaders.. Hot damn,"

"One of them looks like she's from my background," David acknowledged.

"Fine, fine, I'm going to find our cabin, don't blame me if you two get lost," Blaine rolled his eyes and grabbed his bags. There was barely anyone near the bags, they had all but abandoned the bus the moment they got out in order to find a hot date.

They didn't have a teacher, as Wes and David were in charge, the person looking after them was Nick's father who had already headed over to the teacher side, telling the boys to behave.

Blaine looked on the pile of bags and saw his on the top and sighed. He reached for it but only managed to grab Jeff's bright yellow bag which he put on the ground so he could try again.

"Here let us help you," A girl said as four hands reached up to help; two of the hands were a beautiful pale colour.

"Thanks, I guess they call me a hobbit for a reason," Blaine grinned helping them as they pulled the large bag halfway.

"My name is Mercedes, by the way, and this is Kurt, we thought you could use some help, looks like your friends abandoned you," Mercedes replied as Blaine turned around to thank his helpers. He hadn't expected to see an angel amongst the friendly girl pulling the bag down fully with ease.

"Hi...Blaine Anderson, pleasure to meet you both," Blaine shook both of their hands. Kurt smiled shyly at him as Mercedes nodded.

"Kurt Hummel," Kurt added as the two stared at each other.
