Thanks for reading

Blaine woke up to a thrashing Kurt next to him. He glanced over at the clock to discover it was three in the morning. Kurt was shifting rapidly, letting out whimpers. “No Coop..” the brown haired boy whined.

“Shit,” Blaine whispered to himself. Kurt was having another nightmare. Blaine wondered how Kurt had been coping. He knew his boyfriend was a private person and wouldn't want to tell anyone if he was struggling. As much as Blaine wanted Kurt in New York with him, he knew it would be good for the boy to stay in small town for awhile. “Kurt, sweetheart,” Blaine whispered. He gently placed a hand on Kurt's shoulder and tried to wake him.

“I'll find him Cooper. I'll tell him,” Kurt yelled in his sleep.

“Kurt. Wake up. Please,” Blaine begged. He wanted to put his boyfriend out of his misery.

“I'm sorry,” Kurt said as tears started down his face. Then all of a sudden Kurt sat up and was wide awake. Blaine couldn't tell if he was apologizing to him or to the person in his dream. It appeared to be whoever was in his dream though because when Kurt looked over and saw Blaine he was surprised. Then he remembered where he was.

Kurt's rigid posture relaxed however his emotions took over and he burst into tears. He crawled over to Blaine and sat in his lap. Blaine quickly wrapped his arms around the boy and kissed his hair. Kurt buried his head into Blaine's neck and whispered, “I'm sorry.”

“Why are you sorry Baby?”

“I should've told you. I should've told someone. I am so scared Blaine. I have had a nightmare everyday this week.”

“Kurt!” Blaine wasn't yelling because he was mad. He was yelling because he was upset. He wanted to know when his boyfriend was going through something and he wanted to be able to comfort him. “Why didn't you say anything?”

“Because! What if Rachel didn't think I was good enough to take care of Nick? She would take him away from me. And what if my dad thought I was a danger and sent me away. I don't want to go away Blaine.”

“That would never happen, Sweetheart,” Blaine said reassuringly. Kurt clutched at him tighter and Blaine rubbed circles on his back.

“I want to come back,” Kurt whispered.

“To New York?”

“Yes. I want to be able to hear a noise and blame it on the traffic outside instead of jumping to the conclusion that someone is about to attack. I want to be able to hold you in my arms every night and know I can keep you safe.”

“Kurt, you don't have to protect me. Believe me I love that you do and you worry about me, but I will be okay.”

“Cooper wasn't,” Kurt said. Silence. Blaine realized that Kurt was still blaming himself for Cooper's death. Maybe after he stopped, he'd stop having nightmares.

“Kurt,” Blaine whispered and moved Kurt's head to look at him. “You did not kill Cooper.”

“But-”

“No. He ran onto the battlefield. He disobeyed orders. You did not kill him.”

“I didn't save him either,” Kurt said desperately.

“What could you have done?”

“I could've tried! I could've stopped the bleeding in time for the aid to come.”

“They would've killed you Kurt. You couldn't have saved him. Help would not have come in time.”

Kurt nodded slowly. “How can you love me?”

Blaine let out a soft laugh. It wasn't a joyful laugh, but one that told Kurt he was about to be told off in a nice way. “Kurt, you are the bravest person I have ever met. You are the most beautiful boy I have ever seen. You are the kindest person, even though you have every reason to be antisocial. You are funnier than the funniest comedian. Instead of ignoring me in that airport, which would have been way easier, you came up to me and told me about my brother. Yes, you gave me bad news, but you gave so much more. You told me about him at camp. You told me how much he loved me,” Blaine started choking up. “No one else could've done that. Kurt, you are amazing. One of the first nights we spent together, you said that you were broken. But you're not broken, you are more of a person than anyone, because you've seen and experienced more than anyone. For all these reason, and SO many more, I love you Kurt.”

At the end of Blaine's soliloquy Kurt attached their lips in a sweet kiss. “Thank you,” Kurt whispered against the Blaine's lips. Blaine cupped Kurt's cheek with his hand and kissed him again.

Though Kurt tried to convince Blaine he wanted to stay, Blaine sent him back to Ohio. Blaine still felt like Kurt should spend time with his family, also it would be better for Nick. Kurt reluctantly agreed. Their Christmas morning was sweet and Nick loved all his presents. Christmas at the Hummel house was nice too. Kurt could eat pounds of Carole's homemade food.

January went by fast. Kurt took Nick to the park everyday and also bought some books. He taught Nick to read at night. After Nick went to bed Kurt started writing his playwrite. By the end of the month he had an entire play written. It was a musical and had all the dramatic scenes that Broadway was famous for.

February went by slower. Kurt figured it was because he knew he would see Blaine again soon. Nick had made a lot of friends from the park so he was around less and less, always at a friend's. Kurt's script was now detailed and every grammar mistake was fixed.

On Valentines Day Kurt and Blaine had a particularly steamy skype call. Then Blaine gave him the most amazing gift ever! The curly headed boy had called Carmen Tibideaux and asked a favor. Carmen had a friend who directed plays on Broadway and she agreed to ask him to check out Kurt's script. Of course Blaine had no idea what it was about because Kurt wanted to surprise him, but the director said yes. He loved the script. He talked about putting it on the following year.

Now all of Kurt's things were packed, as were Nick's. The two plus Burt and Carole were headed to New York for Blaine's opening night. Kurt went through dozens of outfits, trying to find the perfect one. He wanted Blaine to be proud to show him off at the after party, though Kurt knew Blaine would think he looked great no matter what he wore. Kurt was freaking out before the play started. He had left dozens of messages on Rachel's phone telling her she had a seat saved.

Then the curtain went up and Kurt was entranced. He was surprised when Blaine walked out in the first scene, but even more so when the shorter boy started to sing. His voice was strong and loud. Kurt quickly realized his boyfriend's “small” part was the lead. His smile grew wider and suddenly all the long rehearsals made sense. Kurt chided himself for not figuring it out sooner.

When Rachel walked out on stage and joined Blaine, Kurt nearly choked on his water. As the two danced across the stage, Blaine trying to woo her, Kurt couldn't keep a huge smile off his face. The two had been keeping a secret from him for almost four months but he couldn't bring himself to care. He just hoped that his Broadway surprise would be as good as this was.

Kurt watched as Blaine kissed girl after girl but never found the right one. He may have been jealous had he not given Blaine the heated kiss before the show, whispering that he'd be waiting for him afterward. When Sebastian came on stage, Kurt tried not to throw up. Then the last scene when Blaine finally convinced Rachel to be with him and ended with a song.

The audience erupted into applause while everyone bowed. An hour later they had made it back to Blaine's apartment. Burt and Carole went to their hotel after announcing they were ordering room service for dinner. Kurt discovered that Rachel had found her own place so she took Nick and his luggage back to her place. The boys could hardly keep their hands off each other. They managed alright in the cab but once they were in the apartment neither could contain himself.

Blaine pushed Kurt onto the couch and straddled his legs. Kissing him hard on the mouth and taking off his shirt. Kurt went straight for Blaine's pants, pulling them off and throwing them behind the couch. There was a crash of glass but neither boy stopped to see what broke. In between breaths Blaine told Kurt that the after party started in an hour, to which Kurt replied that it gave them plenty of time.

Blaine had growled and removed the rest of Kurt's clothes. Once they were both naked they had rolled off the couch and onto the hardwood floor. Kurt was on top of Blaine and nipping at his neck.

“Kuuuuurt,” Blaine whined as he ran his hands down the taller boy's back. They rested on the swell of Kurt's ass, making the taller boy groan. Kurt bucked into Blaine and both let out sounds of pleasure.

“Blaine,” Kurt whispered against the boy's cheek.

“Yeah?” he asked. He was so out of breath it was hard to speak.

“What do you want?”

“Anything, please baby,” Blaine answered.

Kurt nodded and rested his head on Blaine's shoulder. He pumped down slowly with his hips, their cocks knocking together and providing much desired friction. Blaine's fingers left bruises on Kurt's hips as he pulled him down again and again. Kurt was mewling above him. They kissed sloppily as their hips ground against each other.

“I love you, Kurt.”

“Mmmm, love you, too, Blaine.”

A few more thrusts and Blaine came. He reached between the two and stroked Kurt a few times before the taller boy climaxed and collapsed on top of him.

The boys gathered themselves and headed to the party. They met Rachel there and she explained that Burt and Carole agreed to watch Nick so she could come. The three laughed into the early hours of the morning. Then they read the reviews which were all stellar. One female critic even mentioned how she hoped to run into Blaine on the streets. Blaine laughed and whispered to Kurt, “Well I guess I portrayed a straight man pretty well.”

One year later held quite a few changes for the boys. Blaine's show ran for eight months and he received a large amount of money for it. He bought a bigger house for himself and Kurt, but one that was still close to the city. Kurt had been working closely with the man who would direct his play, getting all the details worked out and making props. They picked out the cast and everyone was rehearsing.

Rachel stayed in New York after the show ended. Partly because she loved the city, partly because Ohio reminded her of Finn constantly, and partly because she wanted Kurt and Nick to be close. The two created quite a special bond. Nick had taken to calling Blaine “Uncle B” which made Blaine feel even more welcomed into the family. Burt and Carole had visited a few times. Burt claimed it was to see his grandson but Kurt know his father wanted to check up him.

The opening night of Kurt's show had a full audience. Kurt had been very strict with Blaine, telling him he was not to watch any commercials or read anything about the show. Kurt was in the front row with Blaine by his side. Burt and Carole were there, as well as Rachel with her boyfriend.

When the play finally started Kurt squeezed Blaine's hand. The first scene was a battle scene. The main character was fighting and his comrades were falling left and right. His side won but it felt like a loss. The next few scenes were of him readjusting to life. Then he met this boy. The rest of the play was about how they fell in love. At the very end of the play, the main character was summoned back to the army.

The scene was heartbreaking. Kurt could hear Blaine sniffling next to him. The play ended with the main character sitting at a desk in an army camp writing a letter to his love. Applause burst through the audience and there wasn't a dry eye.

Kurt was called up to give an impromptu speech. “Alright, hi everybody. My name is Kurt Hummel and I wrote the script. I was in the army for six years and I lost a very dear friend there. This story was inspired by that and loosely based on my life. I met my amazing boyfriend, Blaine, during a very dark time in my life. He helped me so much more than he will ever know, and I wanted to portray a story where even though the worst things are thrown at two people in love, they can always prevail. Thank you.”

Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand when he came off the stage and kissed him. He wrapped his arms around the taller boy and whispered, “I will never let you go.”
