Kurt awoke one morning to realize he was lying on top of his bed, fully dressed. Right, he'd been waiting for Blaine's phone call.  He checked his messages and smiled at Blaine's voice. He dreams were indeed sweet, and full of a curly headed boy. Kurt called Rachel and asked to watch Nick for the day. Rachel agreed but asked if he wanted to meet at the park and chat for little bit. He replied saying that sounded great.

An hour later, freshly showered and dressed fabulously, Kurt walked to the park. It was about a mile from his house. He saw Rachel sitting on a bench a short distance away. Nick was standing in front of her and facing her while she fussed with his coat. When Kurt reached the two Nick's face erupted into a smile. “UNCLE KURT!” he screamed.

“Hi Buddy!”

“Do you want to play on the swings with me?”

“Maybe in a little bit kid. I'm going to talk with your mommy right now,” Kurt replied. Nick nodded his head and ran towards the swings. Kurt sat down next to the slim brunette.

“Here,” Rachel said, handing him a coffee. “It's a nonfat mocha. I didn't know if your order has changed since high school.”

“Oh, Thank you Rach. I usually just drink it black nowadays but this sounds amazing.”

“Yay. So how are you doing with everything?”

“I miss Blaine a lot, but I am enjoying my time here-” Kurt started but was interrupted.

“That's great Kurt, but I didn't mean with Blaine. I meant how is it going being back in the real world?”

“Oh. Some days are harder than others. I still have nightmares where I am back in camp, or watching Cooper die.”

“That sounds terrible! Are you seeing a psychologist?”

“No. I don't have any other issues so I didn't think it necessary.”

“Well, I am glad to hear you're doing good, and that you're safe.” Rachel said, though her tone was sad.

“I am sorry about Finn. How are you doing?”

“I'm okay,” Rachel replied, though her eyes filled with tears. “Finn was my person. I don't think I'll find anyone else, but my focus is on Nick. Did you know I got a call from Carmen Tibideaux? She said that one of the girls cast in a Broadway show is backing out and they need another girl pronto. She asked if I was interested. Of course I was flattered that she thought of me, but I can't with my baby boy.”

“Rachel! That's an incredible opportunity! Finn wouldn't have wanted you to give up your dreams. I can watch Nick while you go to New York. You can stay with Blaine.”

“Kurt, thank you, but I don't want to be away from him for that long.”

“Well when does the show open?” Kurt inquired.

“March. And I would have a few days off for Christmas.”

“See! You want this. If you didn't then you wouldn't be trying to justify it with time off. I'll watch Nick. It'll be fun. It's only three months.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely!”

“Well, I'll think about it and get back to you. Right now I've gotta run. When should I pick up the little monster?”

“Around five tonight?”

“Perfect. See you then!” Rachel replied, and ran off.

“Hey Buddy,” Kurt said as he approached Nick. The little boy was on the swing but his little legs weren't able to carry him very high.

“Hi Uncle Kurt! Can you push me, please?” Nick asked.

“Of course,” Kurt replied. He walked around behind Nick and started pushing the swing. Soon Nick was flying back and forth. Every time Kurt would push him higher he let out an adorable giggle. Kurt was smiling wider than he had in a long time. He could do three months with this little guy.

“Poor kid, father is a homo,” Kurt heard someone say. He looked around spotted a big guy sitting on a bench not far away. He rolled his eyes. Nothing would spoil his time with his nephew. “How'd you even get a hold of a kid anyway?”

“I think that guy is talking to you Uncle Kurt,” Nick said, not comprehending what was going on.

“Uncle, that makes more sense. I see the government hasn't lost all sense by letting you gays adopt,” the man sneered. He got off the bench and started walking over to Kurt.

“Come on, Nicky. Let's go home,” Kurt said getting the little boy off the swing. He didn't want to get into this right now. The army had certainly toughened Kurt up and he was much stronger; however, he had more than himself to think about. Kurt carried Nick away from the park. After a short distance, he set the little guy down and held his hand while they walked back home.

“Was that guy being mean Uncle Kurt?” Nick asked.

Kurt sighed. Little Nick was such an innocent little boy, assuming the best in everyone. Kurt certainly didn't to be the one to break the news, but the kid had to learn sometime. Kurt stopped walking and crouched in front of Nick. “Listen Buddy, you're going to run into some people that don't think the same way you do.”

“Like my friend Sarah from daycare? She thinks chocolate ice cream is the best, but I like vanilla better,” Nick illustrated.

Kurt smiled, “yeah kind of like that. Well in some cases, people think that boys liking boys is not okay.”

“But that's stupid!” Nick exclaimed.

“Yeah, it is. But you have to remember, not everybody thinks the same way. Now, just because somebody thinks one way, it does not give them the right to be meant to another person. Do you understand what I am saying?”

“Yes Uncle Kurt. Can we go get ice cream now?”

“Yeah,” Kurt answered. He kissed Nick's hair and then the two started walking again. “How about some chocolate?”

“No Uncle Kurt! Vanilla is the best.”

“Kurt?”

“Oh hey Rachel! How was your day of relaxation?” Kurt asked.

“It was wonderful! Listen, I thought a lot about what you said earlier.”

“Yeah, and?”

“If you're still willing to watch Nick for three months, I would really really love to go to New York.”

“OH MY GOD!!! This is so exciting!!!” Kurt jumped from where he was seated on the couch and ran over to Rachel. “You're going to New York! You're going to be on Broadway! Do you want to stay with Blaine? I have to call him right now!”

“Kurt, Kurt slow down,” Rachel chuckled. “My plane is tomorrow afternoon. Yes, if I could stay with Blaine that would be great. Now, If you'll excuse me. I have to go talk to my baby boy.”

Rachel went off to find Nick while Kurt pulled out his phone.

“Hey Baby,” Blaine answered after the first ring.

“Hi Blaine! Are you busy?”

“Nah I have a few minutes. Why are you so excited?”

“Rachel got a part on Broadway. She is headed to New York tomorrow. I am going to watch Nick for the next three months. Can she stay with you?”

“Oh wow that's great. Um, yeah she can stay if she is okay with the couch. My apartment is tiny remember?”

“She'll be fine. How are rehearsals going?”

“They're great. It's been pretty hectic, there has been some complications over the lead role.”

“You said you had a minor part, I don't understand why you're so busy. But I am happy for you! I miss you,” Kurt said.

“I miss you too sweetheart. Listen I gotta go. Love you.”

“Love you too.”
