Kurt looked at himself in the mirror for the twentieth time that evening. His hair was perfectly coiffed and his face was as smooth as a babies butt. But his outfit…it was even better. He didn’t know whether to go with the navy blue down or the red one. Red was Blaine’s favorite color so Kurt went with that.
The shirt fight perfectly around his muscles and his black skinny jeans fit just right around his legs. He tucked his shirt into his pants and looked for his black button up vest and white bowtie. His room was a complete disaster. Clothes were all over the floor and stacked on his bed, hair products all over the shower floor and his skin care lotions and moisturizers were scattered around his vanity.
This was Kurt’s first date. He didn’t want to look trashy now did he?
_____
Blaine fumbled around his dressers for the fifth time, looking for a shirt that Kurt said was really cute the other day.
“Mom, have you seen my red stripped long sleeve shirt?!”
That was a mouth full. Blaine’s mother, Charlotte, walked up the stairs into Blaine’s bedroom. The floor was covered with clothes and his dresser looked like it exploded. Blaine had a nice pair of blue jeans on but no shirt on.
“Mom? Knock?”
Charlotte just smiled and walked in with her hands behind her back. She looked and her son and wondered why he was going through so much trouble for this guy. He must be special.
Charlotte held out her hand with the shirt that Blaine was looking for and gave it to him.
“I had a feeling you wanted to wear that shirt today, so I washed it.”
Blaine looked at her and smiled. “Thanks Mom.”
Charlotte turned around and headed out the door but stopped herself.
“Blaine?” She asked, “This guy…he’s you boyfriend, right?
“Yes.” Blaine simply said.
She smiled. “Is he really that important to tear up your room for a shirt?”
“Yes. I really…really like him.”
“What time are you meeting him?”
“Seven. Why?”
“Look at the clock honey.”
Blaine turned to his clock on his bed side table. It read six forty-five.
Blaine’s eyes grew wide. His hair wasn’t even done yet and he hasn’t even put on his shirt yet.
“Crap!” He yelled as he raced to his bathroom.
Charlotte just laughed. This was a day to remember.
_____
Kurt walked down the stairs into the TV room where his father was already sitting in his recliner. Kurt was apprehensive at that moment.
Burt was just quietly sitting with his arm stretched out on the arm with the remote in hand. His face looked determined.
Kurt walked over to the couch and sat down quietly. He barely even made a sound. Burt didn’t even look up from the TV.
_____
Blaine drove at a fast pace. He was nervous and he wanted to get this over with, but…not really.
He wanted his and Kurt’s first date to be perfect. No people. No interruptions. Just them
He turned up the radio and an Andy Grammer song came on. Blaine just smiled to himself. He was going to be fine.
But, you got to keep your head up, oh,
But, you got to keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh,
Got to keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
I know it’s hard,
Know it’s hard,
To remember sometimes.
But you got to keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
Got to keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
I know it’s hard,
Know it’s hard,
To remember sometimes.
But you got to keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
Kurt sat quietly on the couch. He never moved. He wished Blaine was her so he could leave already.
Finally, Burt broke the long silence.
“So…boyfriend?”
“Yes.” Kurt replied.
“Where are you two going again?”
“Breadstix.”
Burt nodded. “Be home by ten.”
Kurt nodded.
“Have fun too.”
“I will.” Kurt said.
The awkward moment soon faded away when Kurt heard a knock on the door. He jumped up from the couch and ran to the door. Burt rose from the recliner and he made his way to the door.
Kurt opened the door. “Hey.”
“Hey. You look…good” Blaine stumbled with words.
“So do you.” Kurt blushed.
Burt then cut in. “Hello Blaine.”
“Hello Mr. Hummel.” He shook his hand. “I’ll have Kurt home by nine-thirty.
Kurt eyes turned sad. He wanted to spend more time with Blaine.
“Have him home by ten. Have fun.” Burt said as a small smile escaped from his lips.
Kurt’s face lit up and he smiles at Blaine.
“Will do. Thank you Mr. Hummel.” Blaine smiled.
“Bye Dad.” Kurt said as he walked out the door. Blaine followed behind him.
“Bye Kurt.”
Blaine opened the door for Kurt and shut it. He fast walked to the driver side and before long they were off on their date.
Burt watched from the door and smiled to himself. He would remember this. He shut the door and walked back to his comfy recliner and continued to watch TV.
_____
Blaine pulled up to the parking lot at Breadstix ten minutes later. It wasn’t crowded at all. Only 4 cars were in the lot and it was a Friday which was usually busy for them, but they didn’t complain. They walked inside and were immediately seated.
“So what are you planning on getting?” Blaine asked.
“Don’t know.” Kurt smiled. “Maybe cheese ravioli. What about you?”
“Same. I’m tired of spaghetti.”
Kurt chuckled and grabbed a breadstick.
“So…your Dad seemed…happy.” Blaine said as he grabbed a bread stick.
“I guess. We didn’t really talk. He just asked if you were my boyfriend and I said yes…”
Blaine froze. Hearing the word made him feel all giddy inside. He didn’t pay attention to the rest of what Kurt was saying. He was lost in his train of thought. He just kept smiled at Kurt…his boyfriend.
After talking for a good while, their food finally arrived, piping hot. But of course it was delicious. Kurt almost ate all of his but Blaine devoured his plate. Both of them were satisfied.
“I’m having a good time.” Blaine said as he grabbed Kurt’s hand.
“Me too.” Kurt smiled as he held Blaine’s hand.
They just continued talking while holding each other’s hand till the waitress came for their plates and asked them if they wanted a dessert.
“Chocolate Cake!” they said at the same time. The waitress laughed and asked if they wanted two.
“No.” Blaine said, “I think we’ll share.”
Kurt just blushes and nodded his head to the waitress.
After both of them finished their cake, the date was finally coming to a close. Kurt reached for his wallet but Blaine stopped him.
“I wanna pay.” Blaine said as he took out his wallet.
“But-“
“-No but’s. I wanna pay so out your wallet back in your pocket.”
Kurt smiled and put his wallet back in his pocket.
They left the restaurant hand in hand, since no one was really watching. It was a little cold that night and Blaine turned on the heater in his car. Kurt and Blaine sat in silence for a good few minutes till Kurt saw the Lima Community Park.
“Hey, Blaine? Can we take a walk on the park?” Kurt asked softly. It was around nine-thirty so they had time.
“Sure.”
Blaine pulled into the park and quickly shut off the ignition. He never really imagined he would walk in the park with someone. And that someone would be his boyfriend.
It was a quiet evening in the park. No one was really there to make any noise and the moon was full so Kurt and Blaine had their own personal flashlight. There was a little path that rounded the park and it looked like a good half a mile. Both of them were silence. Kurt was taking time to appreciate the park and how pretty it was at night. Blaine was looking at Kurt’s hand; eager to take it.
“It’s so pretty tonight.” Kurt said.
“Yeah, it is.” Blaine replied.
Kurt looked at Blaine and finally took his hand. They walked around the park having small conversations on anything in the world. Blaine would have never thought he could talk so much with Kurt and never feel awkward around him since they were finally together. They were comfortable with each other.
Blaine looked at his watch after a long pause took place after one of their conversations about different animals. It was nine-forty six and Kurt had to be home by ten. He didn’t want to set a bad boyfriend example on the first date.
“Kurt we have to get home. It’s almost your curfew.”
“Crap! What time is it?”
“Nine-forty six.”
“Crap, crap, crap! We have to run!” And just like that Kurt and Blaine took off hand in hand to the car.
______
Blaine pulled up to Kurt’s house in record time. Ten minutes to spare. He may have sped through a little, but he just wanted Kurt home so he would set a good impression on Burt.
Blaine shut off the car and they sat in silence again.
“I had a wonderful time tonight.” Kurt said as he unbuckled his seat belt.
“Me too.” Blaine did the same.
You would think that after kissing two days ago, Kurt and Blaine would have kissed more but they really haven’t had that much time alone together. So Kurt was a little nervous again. He turned to Blaine and started to lean in as Blaine did the same.
Their lips met but they only shared a quick kiss. Their foreheads were touching and Kurt was trying not to breathe too hard.
Blaine definitely wanted more. So he took his hand and placed it on Kurt’s cheek pulling him back in. This time it wasn’t a chaste kiss. Their lips moved, parted and closed together. Their tongues started too intertwined with one another and they didn’t want to stop.
Kurt was the first to let up for air. He leaned his forehead against Blaine.
“Thank you.” He whispered.
“For what?”
“Everything…basically.”
Blaine chuckled and quickly kissed Kurt again.
“Goodnight.” Kurt said.
“Goodnight.”
“Maybe I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Hopefully.” Blaine said with a smile.
Kurt smiled, gave one last kiss, and got out of the car and walked to the front door. He looked back at Blaine and smiled for the thousandth time that nigh and closed the door behind him.
Blaine just could stop smiling that night. He would remember this for a long time.
