Every year, to get the New Directions ready and pumped up for sectionals, Mr. Shue makes a competition of girls against guys. Wednesday, a week and a half after Kurt and Blaine’s last official date (they went out for coffee or for a walk a few times), the topic of sectionals finally came up in Glee. Kurt was excited and nervous at the same time, worried about who the other Glee choirs would be, and knowing that they could probably beat whoever they were competing against.
Last year they won sectionals and regionals, making it to Nationals in New York. Kurt was incredibly nervous, especially at regionals. He was kind of expecting to do better than 12th place at nationals, but oh well, they still have this year. Plus, the kiss between Rachel and Finn (bad time for drama) was completely unprofessional, and probably bumped them down a few spots. So, if they worked as hard, even harder, than they did last year, they should for sure be able to win.
Kurt was sitting at the edge of his seat along with Mercedes, waiting for the results. Mr. Shue took the sheet from the envelope and read it first before speaking.
“Your competition for sectionals this year is…” he began, “The Hipsters, and the Dalton Academy Warblers.”
While other people were slightly confused about the schools or cheering for their odds, Kurt’s expression was surprised. He was wondering whether Blaine had friends on the Glee club in his school, and maybe if he did, he’d go watch the competition and be surprised at Kurt’s performances; he was planning on getting a solo, or at least a duet.
After the New Directions talked about the two different choirs, the boys and girls were separated – Kurt obviously tried to side with the girls first, but failed – and they started thinking of their songs. Kurt made a suggestion, but it was quickly put down by Puck. He suggested that Kurt could go spy on the Warblers, and he thought: why not?
So, fourty five minutes and a whole new attire (an attempt to look like he was in uniform) later, he was standing in the middle of the room with a huge staircase in Dalton Academy. All of a sudden, the hall filled with students, and in a moment of panic to figure out what was going on, he poked the first person he could, the boy turning around at the bottom of the stairs.
“Hi, can I help you?” The boy asked politely.
“Hi,” Kurt panicked for a second, trying to look normal, “I’m Kurt, a new student at Dalton. What’s happening right now?”
“Wes,” the boy, Wes, introduced himself. “Well, every once in a while the Warblers hold an impromptu performance in their commons, so the whole school usually shuts down for a while. The guys appreciate a reason to get out of school, and love watching them.”
“So, the Glee club here is popular?”
“Yeah,” Wes replied, “we’re like rock stars. I’ve got to get going to the hall right now, we can take a short cut, follow me!”
Kurt followed behind Wes, starting a light jog to keep up. He would have gotten lost on his own and was glad that they boy was helping him out. Wes turned into a room, the commons, and left Kurt, telling him to stay there. Kurt followed his orders, watching the chaos as the Warblers set themselves up. He was wondering why there were no instruments or band, but then he remembered that they’re an a capella group. They started off with the background music, singing quick notes instead of words.
Speaking of words, Kurt had none when he heard what came next. He listened to the starting words, mesmerized by the voice singing:
You think I'm pretty without any makeup on
You think I'm funny when I tell the punchline wrong
I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down
When the crowd cleared up, he saw something completely unexpected. He saw Blaine, singing the words to Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, looking incredibly happy, and completely different in that uniform. It fit him well, though…
Before you met me I was alright, but things
were kinda heavy. You brought me to life,
now every February You'll be my Valentine, Valentine
Kurt just stared, wide eyed and mouth open. Blaine hadn’t seen Kurt yet, but at the chorus he looked in Kurt’s direction and did a quick double take before continuing on. After completing a dance sequence, he looked back at Kurt and gave him a wink and his usual grin. Kurt felt like he felt with his celebrity crushes, feeling giddy and excited whenever he saw them perform. Only this wasn’t just a crush.
When Blaine and the rest of the Warblers finished the song, the crowd of Dalton students cheered and congratulated them. A few of them went to give others a hug or a high five. It was nice to see so many guys getting along with each other; no matter how tall, short, how nerdy they were or what colour they were, they were all friends. Kurt wished that McKinly had the same atmosphere. It would be nice not to be shoved into lockers for being gay or different. Kurt thought quickly ended when Blaine approached him, giving him a surprised but happy look.
“What a delightful surprise,” Blaine began, “a new student. Welcome to Dalton Academy, hot stuff.”
Kurt slapped his arm playfully. “Shut up.”
“As hot as you look in that uniform, I don’t think you fooled anyone.”
“As soon as I heard your name and saw what you looked like, I kind of figured that you were Blaine’s Kurt.” Wes chimed in.
David came by, also speaking, “Well, Blaine talks about you enough that you’re practically recognizable.”
Blaine gave them piercing glares before turning back to Kurt. “So, would you like to go on a tour?”
“Bring him to one of those abandoned classrooms,” David interrupted, winking suggestively at the two of them.
“You guys are horrible.”
“Sorry, we’ll leave you two alone,” Wes apologized, laughing, “It was nice meeting you, Kurt.”
“You too, Wes,” Kurt shook his hand and turned to the other boy, “And you are?”
“David,” David replied, shaking Kurt’s hand.
“Awesome! I’ll see you guys later,” Kurt waved goodbye and turned to Blaine. “So about that tour?”
“Sounds good; I’ll show you the ropes. And maybe take their advice and show you some old abandoned classrooms.”
Kurt rolled his eyes, following beside Blaine, and walked with him and he showed Kurt all of the classrooms and explained what they were for and which ones he’s been in. At one point during the tour, they had started holding hands, and Kurt was glad that they could do that in public without getting dirty looks. He knew that this wasn’t exactly the real world, but it was a nice, happy atmosphere for a change. Once they reached the common room again, the place where the performance was set, Blaine brought Kurt over to a couch near the non-lit fire place and they both sat down.
“So how did you enjoy the tour?”
“I enjoyed it quite well, thank you. It’s a really nice school.”
“One of my favourites, personally.”
“You are also a very good tour guide, not to mention an amazing voice. I never knew you were in the Warblers, not to mention their lead singer!”
“Well,” Blaine began, looking over at Kurt seductively, “I have a few other amazing talents.”
“Care to explain?” Kurt whispered as Blaine slowly inched himself forward, feeling Kurt’s breath on his face. Kurt looked down at Blaine’s lips, full and perfect, then back up into his hazel eyes. He put a hand on the back of Blaine’s neck, playing with one of his curls as Blaine leaned in, their lips meeting.
Blaine kissed Kurt slowly, loosely holding on to his lips. As they pulled apart, Kurt opened his eyes, staring into Blaine’s, and he gave Kurt his signature grin and said, “My pleasure.” He looked down at Kurt’s slightly parted, irresistible lips and leaned back in, locking their lips again. Kurt brought himself farther forward, wanting more from the kiss, and Blaine reacted, parting his lips slightly and running his tongue against Kurt’s bottom lip. Kurt opened his, and their tongue’s brushed against each other’s for the first time. Kurt inhaled sharply at the feeling. He used to think that kissing with tongue was gross – the touch of the fingertips was romantic enough – but he quite enjoyed this new idea. After taking a second to breathe, they began kissing again. Kurt pushed his tongue into Blaine’s mouth, never wanting to stop, and their tongues danced together. Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt’s waist and tilted his head more.
Blaine’s heart was fluttering. For all of the times he’s kissed another boy, it’s never felt like this. As cheesy as it sounded – he’d never say this out loud – he felt sparks. His head was light and there was a warm feeling in his chest. When he bit lightly on Kurt’s lip as he pulled away a little, Kurt moaned against Blaine’s lips. The warm feeling then travelled lower, and Blaine couldn’t help himself; he held Kurt’s waist tighter and lowered him down until Kurt was on top of him on the couch, both boys growing a little bit hard.
Although it was only Kurt’s first time making out with someone, he was too busy enjoying the feeling of Blaine’s tongue against his to fully realize that he was on top of Blaine on the couch in the common room at Dalton. He didn’t care though; he wanted to keep making out with Blaine forever.
After thinking to himself that Kurt was good at making out, especially for his first time, he came to the realization that Kurt hasn’t done anything with a boy before him. Of course, Blaine’s done plenty, and didn’t think about whether he was taking things too far. He ended the heated kiss, pulling his face away, taking a breath. Kurt did the same, and opened his eyes. After realizing that Blaine had stopped, he sat up, allowing Blaine to sit up too, and was incredibly confused.
“Sorry,” Kurt whispered, catching his breath. He wasn’t sure what else to say.
“No, no!” Blaine rushed, “It’s not you at all. I just didn’t want to take things too far.” He explained, his mouth screwed up in a worried expression. His mood quickly lightened up as he said, “you’re a little bit too tempting.”
“Well, I could say the same,” Kurt chuckled, “it’s definitely one of your finer talents.”
“I told you so,” Blaine grinned and looked down at his watch. “It’s already five o’clock, I’m sure your parents were expecting you home before now.”
“Damn,” Kurt sighed, “yeah, I guess so. I’m going to get going.”
“I’ll walk you to your car,” Blaine offered.
“Wow, you’re dapper and an incredible kisser.”
Blaine laughed, standing up and grabbing Kurt hand to help him up as well. They walked together out to the parking lot, hand in hand, and said goodbye before Kurt parted. At that point, Kurt wished he took up that offer of making out in his car that Blaine made a while back.
