It was the Monday morning a week before senior year for Kurt, and as much as he was enjoying his summer break, he was almost excited to get back to school. He wanted to be reunited with the glee club members, considering he only saw Mercedes, Rachel, and Finn, his step brother, during his vacation. He was almost excited to hear about Puck’s crazy, stupid adventures, and smirk at Santana’s snide remarks.

Last night he had stayed up until 2 in the morning with Mercedes and Rachel talking about their senior year and where they wanted to go after they graduated. Of course, Rachel and he were already planning where they would be staying when they went to Julliard. As excited as he was the night before, the drowsiness finally caught up with him the next morning. He got out of bed half awake and put together a simple, but still fashionable outfit, matching a pair of black skinny jeans and a white button-up shirt with a gray vest. Since he wanted to get some shopping done today (he only had half of his back to school wardrobe picked out!), he needed a quick energy boost to get him going, and decided to stop off at the Lima Bean before heading to the mall.

After ordering and receiving his non-fat mocha from the barista, he walked over to his usual seat to let his coffee cool down a bit so it was drinkable. If he didn’t drink some before getting into his car, it could spill, and he wouldn’t want a stain on his white shirt; the littlest drop would force him to go home and change, and he simply didn’t have time for that.

As he sat down, he looked around the shop at the different people inside, talking and laughing with their significant others. As basically the only out gay student in Lima, Ohio, he always wished he could be in love like other people were, but of course that would never happen here. He sighed, looking out the window at the busy streets with cars lined up at red lights impatiently, wanting to, like Kurt, get their back to work or school shopping done.

He continued to stare out of the window until a smooth, but rude voice interrupted his train of thought.

“Excuse me,” the person said. As Kurt turned around, he fell silent as he took in the boy standing in front of him. He, like Kurt, obviously had a knack for fashion, wearing a dark grey V-neck t-shirt, black skinny jeans with a dark green belt, and a black leather jacket. Although he seemed like a bad boy, Kurt could tell those jeans were Armani.

When he looked up at the boy’s face, he stayed silent, in awe of what he saw. His skin was tan, and his hazel eyes were boring into Kurt. Along with his jawline, perfect nose, and unruly, curly black hair, this boy was incredibly attractive. Reminding himself that the boy in front of him, no matter how hot, was still standing there expectantly, his brain automatically did the first thing that came to mind; use sarcasm.

“Can I help you?” Kurt asked, seemingly polite, but with an obviously fake smile.

“You’re sitting in my seat.” The boy stated.

Kurt’s jaw dropped at the simplicity in the boy’s voice. “Excuse me?” He replied.

The boy leaned over, his face closer to Kurt’s as his breath hitched, and the boy repeated, “You’re sitting in my seat.”

Although slightly taken aback at how straight forward and impolite this guy was, Kurt still thought of a comeback. “What are you, in kindergarten?”

The boy didn’t seem fazed. “Do I look like I’m in kindergarten to you?” He asked, a grin playing on the corner of his lips. It almost seemed like in his crude remarks, he was flirting with Kurt.

“No, but that surprisingly doesn’t make you less annoying,” Kurt snapped back. Thank goodness I can still think straight, he thought, getting lost in the boy’s eyes. “Plus, how can this be your seat? I’ve never seen you here before.”

“Well,” the boy started, “it’s officially mine. So, if you don’t mind…” He pointed his thumb behind him.

“You can’t be serious!” Kurt exclaimed.

“If you’re not going to move, then I guess I can sit here,” the boy said, dropping down in the seat across from Kurt. “So, what’s your name, hot stuff?”

Kurt jumped in his seat, startled by the name this boy just called him. “Uhh…” He replied, at a loss for words.

“I guess if you won’t tell me, I’ll just keep calling you hot stuff. Or maybe… sexy. Or even better-“

“Kurt.” Kurt squeaked out, hoping that he wasn’t blushing too hard.

“That’s a nice name,” the boy said, “Kurt.” He repeated Kurt’s name, staring into Kurt’s eyes, and bit his lower lip. He has a lip ring? How did he not notice?

“And yours?” Kurt asked, unable to break the eye contact between them.

“Well, you’ll just have to find out next time you see me sitting in my new seat,” he said smugly, then stood up and grabbed his coffee. “See you later, Kurt.”

The boy then saluted, turned around, and walked out of the coffee shop without looking back. Kurt just sat there, completely still and in awe of what just happened. Was this boy hitting on him?

No way, he thought to himself, maybe he was actually trying to take his seat. He was probably just like any other jock or bad boy in this town, picking on Kurt. He grabbed his coffee and stood up, walking out to his car to indulge himself in some retail therapy. He needed to stop thinking about the crazy situation that had just occurred in the Lima Bean.
