Let me know what you think, please! :)
“One, two, three, four! Come on lumpy ladies, you are so slow I go through 3 REMs between your moves!” Sue’s voice blurted through the speakers on the field, willing the Cheerios to work even harder, which was an impossible command in the 4th hour of their practice that day.
The teens started their routine all over again and again and again until…
“Aaahh!” Kurt winced from the ground where he just landed after a twisted backflip with his ankle already swelling.
“Get up Hummel don’t kill the vibe!” Said a bitchy cheerleader, Kurt didn’t even know her name. He got up but when he tried to take a step he landed on his bum again this time with a louder “Aaahh!” His eyes started to tear up from the pain as Sue walked over to him to take a look at his left foot.
“Let me see Porcelain.” She said carefully removing his shoe. “Okay, this just looks awful. Does it hurt like hell?” She asked. Kurt wanted to say no, so he wouldn’t look like a little girl, but his foot was still throbbing awfully from trying to step on it that he couldn’t form words. He just nodded instead.
“It doesn’t seem like something that incompetent blondie, Figgins hired as a nurse could patch up, so I’m just gonna call the ambulance to take you to the ER.” She said almost spitting the headmasters name and was already on her phone.
“This can’t be happening…” Kurt sighed leaning back on the grass.
After a few minutes an ambulance car arrived. Kurt heard Sue sending the other cheerleaders home as he was put into the car and Sue got in sitting down next to him after telling the paramedics off. “No, I’m not family but I’m his coach which puts me in a higher rank. Now move over and let me drive with the poor kid for Christ’s sake!” Kurt stared at her with wide eyes but didn’t comment, because even though Sue was everything but dear to his heart he was really scared and didn’t want to be alone.
In the hospital he asked the nurses to call Carol, who was working in the building somewhere. When she arrived she thanked Coach Sylvester and let her go home. The pain in Kurt’s foot subdued but he was advised to take the pain killers anyway. He was sent to be examined by different doctors, they took x-rays and CAT scans, and left them waiting for the results.
“So, Kurt fortunately nothing is broken but you sprained your ankle really badly and your ligaments got injured. You are just going to have to wear a foot walker for a few weeks and if everything goes well you will never even be reminded of all of this in a few months.” The doctor was nice and tried to be calming but…
“A few months?!” Kurt gasped.
“With the physical therapy, you will be able to walk properly in a few weeks.”
“But the cheering regional championship is in a few days!” He cried out.
“I’m sorry Kurt but I’m afraid you won’t be able to compete this time.” Kurt just looked at the doctor waiting for him to change his mind but it didn’t happen.
Carole’s beeper interrupted the silence, she checked on it and excused herself. She assured Kurt that she will be done with her shift in an hour and be able to take her home, and they will call Burt to let him know what happened.
“Okay our new med student obviously got lost again, but I’ll send him here to put the walker on and help you with adjusting it and answer your questions. See you next time, Kurt.” And the doctor left leaving him completely alone. Kurt saw him approach the nurse station and disappear behind a door.
“Blaine Anderson please come to the second floor.” Kurt heard the message coming from the speakers three times until he saw a young doctor sprint up to the nurse station. He just came from the staircase and was completely out of breath. The nurses pointed in Kurt’s direction, and the doctor turned his head to look at him. The nurses kept talking to him and he was nodding, his eyes never leaving Kurt’s.
After what seemed like eternity the young man walked up to Kurt with a nervous skip in his steps.
“Hy!” He said cheerfully, but then frowned and corrected himself. “I mean good afternoon! My name is Blaine Anderson, and I’m going to help you with…” He looked Kurt up and down and after seeing his bare foot doubled in size he locked eyes with him and completely forgot to complete his sentence.
Kurt chuckled nervously because Oh this man is cute as hell, and why is he looking at me like that? I should turn away my face must be flaming…
“Oh your foot obviously!” Blaine stated after coming to his senses. He was mesmerized by those blue eyes on the beautiful face of the gorgeous man in front of him. He glanced at Kurt’s file in his hand. “Kurt” He added with a smile and Kurt felt his heart melting by the way he pronounced his name. Blaine walked around gathering everything he will need and knocking down a small table on his way back.
“Are you sure you can do that?” Kurt asked while Blaine busied himself with putting everything back on the table. “I mean I don’t mean to question your expertise Dr. Anderson, but you seem a little…”
“Oh I’m not a doctor…yet.” Blaine added. “I’m still a student. It’s just that it’s my first day here.” After seeing Kurt’s shocked expression he continued. “I mean here in this particular hospital. I was working in New York but I had to move back, and my mom knew someone and even if it doesn’t seem like it, I’m actually good at what I’m doing. I just keep getting lost and knocking things down, this place is just unfamiliar, but I’m going to get used to it. Oh sorry I should stop speaking…” And he finished with a nervous smile.
Blaine put bandage on his foot and put the walker on it while explaining when and how to remove it for showering. He told him how to use the night splint, and that he should not put any weight on it in the first few days. When he finished he put his hand on Kurt’s knee. “You are all set up, it was really nice to meet you Kurt. I wish you a fast recovery, and hope to see you when you come back for check-up. Bye.” But he didn’t leave. He was still standing there with his hand on the younger boy’s knee and they were smiling at each other and staring in infatuation.
Kurt thanked him for his job and told him not to worry he is indeed good at what he is doing, and hopefully he will get used to the new situation soon. They both said their good byes and Blaine left with a last glance back from his way bumping into a nurse. Kurt just let out a light chuckle and resigned that he is never going to see those beautiful hazel eyes and that honest smile again.
