After an hour and a half he was still sitting there waiting for Carole. The battery in his phone almost dead from answering all the concerned text messages from his friends about his wellbeing and playing endless rounds of Dumb ways to die.

When Carole arrived still in her nurse scrubs Kurt already knew that this is not going to be good news for him. “I’m sorry honey three nurses called sick for the next shift and I have to stay. I can arrange you a room, or call Finn to take you home.” She said with obvious guilt in her tone.

“Finn is out with Rachel celebrating their anniversary. I can’t do that to her, she was talking about this for weeks. I think I’m just going to call a cab, I’d rather not stay here.” He said already looking up a number in his phone.

“I can take you home.” Came a familiar voice from behind Carole. They both turned to see Blaine, out of his scrubs now standing there with a shy smile. “I can take him home Mrs. Hummel, I just finished with my shift.”

“Oh Blaine that would be perfect, oh and please call me Carole, if it’s okay with you Kurt. This is Blaine Anderson a nice and helpful young man…”

“We already met actually” said Kurt nervously. “It would be nice of you but I really don’t want to cause any trouble…” He said jumping up and down in his head like a 12-year-old little girl.

“Don’t worry about it.” Blaine said trying to keep his smile polite and not overexcited.

“I’m going with you then, thank you.” Kurt said shuffling to the edge of the bed.

“Yes Blaine thank you so much!” Carole said pulling Blaine in a grateful hug and moving to Kurt to hug him, too. “Kurt I called your father. It took me a while but I convinced him not to run home right away. Finn shouldn’t be too late, he’ll help you with anything you need and I’ll be home by midnight, but don’t stay up, go to bed and rest. No school tomorrow.” She turned back to Blaine “Thank you again darling.” Her beeper went off and she ran away after a last smile at the boys.

Kurt jumped down of the bed onto his right leg and was standing there smiling expecting Blaine to hand him the crutches he oh so professionally put down in the other side of the room beforehand. The elder man smiled back at him for a long time and finally when Kurt started to move he realized what his problem was… well almost.

“Oh no, you should not step on it, let me help.” He jumped next to Kurt and was about to lift him up in his arms. “Maybe not like this.” He said moving so that he can put one of his arms around Kurt “Or maybe I should find a wheelchair…” He said thinking and searching the ward with his eyes.

“Or maybe you could just hand me those.” Kurt chuckled and pointing at the crutches.

“That would be the best.” Blaine said with his face blushing heavily. Come on Blaine he already thinks that you are a lemur, man up! Throwing away the awkwardness Blaine escorts Kurt out to his car.

“Let me help.” He sais and awkwardness returns. He doesn’t know where to hold Kurt and how to put him in the passenger seat without falling on him. It turns out that younger man is completely capable of getting into the car, so Blaine has to settle with taking the crutches and putting them on the backseat. He quickly swipes the empty bottles and chips packages down to the floor behind Kurt’s seat and sits down behind the wheel. He turns the key but suddenly realizes…

“Um, where do you live exactly?” Kurt chuckled again and when Blaine hands him his phone he types his address in without a word. They ride with constant smiles on their faces and occasionally glancing at each other until Blaine builds up the courage to ask him.

“So you are a… cheerleader?” He doesn’t want to assume anything but can’t think of anything else from the uniform his passenger is wearing.

“Yes, and a good one of that. We… I mean my team without me is going to compete this weekend.”

“I used to be part of the cheerleading team in my old high school, too. Didn’t last long though.” He said remembering.

“Why? What happened?” Kurt asked with a feeling that this topic might not be the best for Blaine to remember considering his facial expression.

“I transferred to Dalton Academy, they don’t have a cheering team.” He said simply.

“Oh. I went there for a few months last year.”

“You did? Really? But not anymore… You are in WMHS now, whatever that is.” Blaine was suddenly excited about finding out that he had more in common with Kurt that he thought.

“It doesn’t really matter. WM stands for William McKinley. We’re here!” Kurt said and Blaine pulled up to the driveway. He got out and quickly ran around the car to help Kurt out, who still wasn’t in need of help but took the other man’s offered hand anyway. Blaine fished out the crutches and handed them to him, who took it and now they were standing there again, too close to each other, yet not close enough with awkward smiles curling their lips.

“You know, you could come in. I hid some of the brownies I made this morning from Finn. And they are really good ones.” Kurt was nervous from this bold statement, and what if Blaine says no, or he thinks I’m too much. A loud growl of Blaine’s stomach stopped his thoughts and he looked up to see Blaine smiling at him.

“I think my tummy answered the question. Yes, I would like to come in and try your really good brownies.” They smiled at each other and Kurt led him up the house and into the kitchen. He put the plate of muffins on the counter, but then he realized that falling off of a stool in front of Blaine would be extremely awkward, and not less painful, he put the plate on the table instead and gestured Blaine to sit down. He took out two glasses and some milk as well, Blaine stood back up quickly and helped putting them on the table, and Kurt sat down.

They started talking and then when there were no more brownies or milk anymore, they still didn’t stop. They were just sitting at the kitchen table for almost two hours talking about everything and nothing in the same time. Kurt learnt that Blaine came home from New York to Westerville because his father got really ill, that he has several more years before becoming a doctor and that he loves singing and can play several different instruments. Blaine learnt that Kurt is planning on moving to New York and be on Broadway, that he loves fashion and that he has a stepbrother Finn. And just in that moment the main entrance flew open and they saw Finn’s back pinning someone, probably Rachel against the wall kissing her fiercely. Blaine stared with wide eyes, and Kurt coughed loudly to make them realize they have company. Finn turned and now the boys could see the one Finn was kissing was indeed Rachel.

“Hi Finn! Rachel! This is Blaine.” Kurt said enjoying the look on the newcomers face.

“Umm hi guys! Uhmm… we’re going to my room to… study. See ya!” Finn grabbed Rachel’s hand and walked away quickly, Rachel following with a yelp.

“Now, that was awkward, also utterly funny.” Said Kurt and looked back at Blaine who couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore.

“It happened so many times with my brother I can’t even count it.” He said laughing and Kurt joined in. They continued laughing and sharing stories about their brothers until it was getting too late and Blaine had to leave, so Kurt escorted him to the door.

“It was so nice to meet you Kurt. And thank you for the brownies, they were really delicious.”

“Thank you for bringing me home. It was nice to meet you, too.” Kurt said and they were again standing there just looking at each other smiling. Blaine didn’t know if he should hug him or not, as he didn’t want to knock him off of his one foot he settled with a quick peck on his cheek, and left.

Kurt watched him get into his car and leaving until he couldn’t see the car anymore. He closed the door and that’s when he heard it. The unmistakable banging of the bed coming from Finn’s room. “Arrgghhhh” he groaned and went to his room closing the door, putting his headphones on and turning on the computer. He spent an hour chatting with his friends, took a clumsy shower and dresses up in his PJ’s. When he checked his facebook again for the last time there it was: 1 new friend request: Blaine Anderson
