Chapter 15.

Santana opened the door and she looked amazing. Her hair pinned up, strands of loose hair falling around her face. She had a beautiful silk, navy blue dress on, which made the colour of her skin and eyes stand out. She smiled at him and made a little turn. Her parents were darting excitedly behind her as Kurt took her arm and lead her down the part to the car. “You look gorgeous, San.” He whispered and kissed her cheek.

When they walked in the room, Kurt sighed as he saw cheerful faces all around him, Santana's hand was in his and his palm felt sweaty. "This is fun." Santana smiled but she couldn't hide the fake tone in her voice, not to him as he knew well enough how annoying it was to fake every little smile.
With Blaine at least every emotion came naturally, even the painful ones. He looked at Santana and imagined to himself how it'd would've been if he'd come with Blaine instead. A smile came on his face when the image of Blaine in a tux, as handsome as ever, entered his mind. Blaine. Blaine. Blaine. Why was he even here?
“Santana, I love you but I have to go.” She looked at him sadly, smiled and nodded.

Kurt ran across the streets, finding Blaine's house easily. He'd know the way with his eyes closed but he stopped in his tracks as he saw how all the lights were off already. His eyes diverted to the driveway, his mum’s car wasn't there....were they out? He walked around the house and onto the soft grass of the garden. He looked up and saw the window of Blaine's room, the lights were out there, too. He made his way to the backdoor and grabbed the spare key, like he'd seen Blaine do before and let himself in. Slowly and very quietly he made his way upstairs not wanting to wake anyone up in case his mum was home. He knocked on Blaine's door once.

After Kurt had run off, Santana felt somehow released. She’d known for ages Kurt had fallen in love with Blaine. She knew Kurt’s heart better than most people and even though Kurt had done a great job at hiding it, he couldn’t hide it from her. Last week had been enough proof to confirm her assumptions. She’d never told Kurt that she’d known, simply for her own selfish reasons. She’d used Kurt as an excuse not to admit her own feelings. Too scared of what might happen if she did. She’d been hiding behind Kurt and he’d been right when he had said that it was destroying her, because it was. Maintaining a secret like theirs took a lot of energy, energy she didn’t have any more. So when Kurt had run off, to finally follow his heart, she decided it was time she followed hers. She started to look for Brittany and felt quite relieved as she saw Brit was alone near the punch table, softly swaying along to the music. She walked through the crowd and felt herself blush as she stood in front of Brittany.
“Santana?” she smiled.
“Brit, can we talk?” she mumbled.
“Only if you dance with me afterwards.” Brittany smiled and there was something in Brit’s voice that made Santana feel like she might have someone to kiss at the end of the evening after all.

"Mum? I didn't know you'd be home so ear-" Blaine stopped talking as he saw Kurt enter his room.
"Can I come in?"
Blaine shrugged. "How long have you got before Santana needs you on her arm again?"
"Blaine." Kurt sighed, rubbing his forehead. But Blaine wasn't letting him off easily this time. He was really hurt, "I told Santana I couldn't do it anymore."
"What?"
"I've fallen in love with someone and I can't pretend to be in love with her when I know now how love really is supposed to feel."
Blaine looked at him in awe, Kurt closed the door behind him and walked towards the bed, his eyes fell on Blaine's tux. "You would've looked beautiful in it", he whispered.
"Not as beautiful as you." Blaine shrugged, "maybe it's a good thing you didn't bring me."
"Please don't." Kurt stopped him, "Don't joke about it. I know I hurt you."
Blaine wanted to shrug again but he saw in Kurt's eyes that if he pretended to be okay with it, it'd only hurt Kurt, too.
"I'm sorry I hurt you. I'm sorry for lying, I'm sorry for everything I did, I'm sorry for being such an asshole.", Blaine giggled, “let me finish," Kurt said but a chuckle escaped him too, "Blaine, I love you and I'm tired of pretending. It's exhausting. When I'm with you....everything’s real and I don't have to pretend. I know what I feel for you is real and I know that everything you feel for me is real too. Even though right now, I'm not so sure what you might feel towards me...."
Blaine sighed, "Come here."

Kurt crawled on the bed and Blaine grabbed his hands. "I've not given up on us Kurt. I've waited for you since September. I waited the whole evening for you to come. I guess you just kind of missed your bus"
Kurt chuckled a little "Yeah, I had one heck of a slow bus driver, I'm afraid we missed winter ball, too."
"I don't care about that anymore. I care about you and I'm glad you're here."
Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine and pulled him against his chest as he planted a kiss on top of his head.
"Is that all?" Blaine pouted, disappointed. Kurt smiled before he pulled him in for another, real, kiss.
Kurt moaned and whispered "Are your parents-"
"Out." Blaine nodded.
"Can I-“
"Stay", Blaine finished for him, again, "I thought you'd never ask."
Kurt shook his head. "That too, but....Blaine....can I have a second chance? To make this work, a second time round?"
Blaine wanted to tell him something else, how he thought that it wasn't a second chance really, as he never stopped loving him but somehow he just nodded and that, for Kurt, seemed enough.

Kurt was lightly brushing his thumb over Blaine’s back, he leant in and kissed the crook of Blaine’s neck. Blaine moaned lightly. “I nearly fell asleep.”
“Not yet.” Kurt mumbled.
“What for?”
“You’ll see.” Kurt smiled. They laid like that in silence and looked in each other’s eyes. Then in the far distance they could hear the distant sound of fireworks and Kurt knew it was midnight. He smiled and claimed Blaine’s lips before he said, “Happy New Year.”
