Chapter 12.

Kurt liked sleeping, in fact he loved sleeping. So when the sunlight crept through his curtain and touched his face, he buried his it in his pillow with a groan. He glanced at his clock: 11am. Normally he’d have to start getting ready to go to Santana’s but since her parents were off this weekend there wasn’t Sunday dinner and he only had to go to her place later tonight. As if she knew he was thinking about her, his phone rang and assuming Blaine was still asleep, it could only be her. “Hello.” The hoarseness of his voice surprised him. He quickly grabbed the glass of water that was on his bedside table and gulped it down. “Morning, sex voice, slept well I’m guessing?” she chuckled.
“Hmm.” He rubbed his eyes and slowly got out of bed, Santana still on the phone.
“Don’t forget you’re coming over tonight.” Kurt made a confirming noise though he wasn’t looking forward to it. Even if it was just going to be pretence, “have you told your dad?”
“Hmm, something about a sleepover at yours, he didn’t ask any questions.” He explained. Kurt hadn’t told his dad yet about the fact he was gay and even though he had the feeling his dad knew, Burt had never questioned Kurt before. “Great, I’ll see you later then!”
“Mhmm.” He made his way downstairs and smelled something burning as he walked in the kitchen.

“Dad?” Kurt looked at him questioning. Burt shrugged in his seat, “I wanted breakfast but I didn’t want to wake you”. Kurt’s eyes fell on the black thing on his dad’s plate and took it from under his nose before he could actually take a bite.
“So you decided to eat an ashtray instead? Next time just wake me instead of nearly burning down the kitchen with your attempt for toast”, Burt grumbled something under his breath but didn’t say anything and watched Kurt make breakfast, “And for tonight, please promise me you’ll order take-out like you always do?”

Burt nodded, usually on Sundays he had a nice pizza or ate some of the leftovers Kurt had brought with him from the Lopez’. On a few occasions, Burt had been invited too but the feistiness wasn’t exactly his thing, “Did you manage with yesterday’s food?” Kurt asked. He had prepared something beforehand as he’d known he was going out with Blaine.
“Kurt please, I’m the adult here. Have some faith in me. All I had to do was microwave it.” Burt rolled his eyes.
“Which is why I saw Chinese take out in the trash?” Kurt raised his eyebrows, knowing he’d caught his dad.
“That damn microwave is broken!”, Burt scoffed. Kurt tried to keep himself from laughing, “Don’t you dare laugh, boy! You’re the one who left me on my own. Besides...where were you last night?”
“Dad?”
“Kurt, you know I never question a thing you do but you said you were going out. You never said you were only going to come back home at 2.30. I got worried.”
“I texted you”, Kurt said in defence, though he felt touched that his dad had worried.
“I know, I know but you’re my boy and I’m allowed as a parent to worry if he doesn’t come home before midnight.”
“I love you Dad.” Kurt said in an adoring tone.
“I love you too, son, but don’t change the topic. Who were you out with anyway? Santana?”
Kurt shook his head, “People from the glee club.”

“Mhm fine... and tonight?”
“I’m staying at San’s.”
“Aren’t her parents gone?” Burt questioned. Kurt choked on his orange juice and focussed on his toast as he replied, trying to keep his voice from sounding weird, “What makes you think that?”
Burt shrugged, “Normally you’d be off to hers already.”
“Uhm yeah, but seeing as we’re having movie night they told me I could skip dinner.” Kurt hadn’t thought his lie was convincing but his dad nodded and went back to his newspaper and he understood that it was the end of the discussion. “I’m going for a shower.” Kurt quickly mumbled and dashed off, back upstairs.

Burt frowned, watching his son walk upstairs. Kurt was a terrible liar, and Burt knew he was lying. He’d seen Santana’s parents right before they left for the weekend as they had come for a check up on their car. However, Burt loved his son and he accepted the choices he made. He never really understood this whole thing Kurt had going on with Santana but he figured that as long as Kurt was happy, he shouldn’t try to step in. His main purpose was, after all, for Kurt to be happy.

After his shower, Kurt figured it was safe to text Blaine. “Thanks again for the lovely evening! Xxx”
“Any time :D are you free today?”
“What? Missing me already? ;)”
Kurt thought back of last night’s kisses, still feeling them on his lips, he remembered how they’d been snuggled up together and though he’d joked to Blaine, he realized, he was actually already missing Blaine.
“Well, I wouldn’t mind a repeat of last night kisses ;)”
Kurt smiled seeing his own thoughts voiced by Blaine, “I’d love to but San and I are meant to be ‘spending the night’ together :(“
Kurt felt his heart sting as he got Blaine’s reply, “oh”, when Blaine said ‘oh’ it never was a good sign. “I thought you said you wouldn’t?”
“It’s just pretending <3 Don’t worry! She can’t steal me from you!”
“Oh. Okay (:”

Blaine threw his phone on his bed in frustration, if she can’t steal you from me then why will you be with her tonight, he thought bitterly. He’d really hoped that after all this time Kurt would’ve chosen for him by now. Every day again he hoped to hear those few words from Kurt’s lips. They still hadn’t come and he was starting to lose hope.

**

“Hello lover boy.” Santana opened the door.
“Hey San, you look nice, “Kurt smile and kissed her cheek as there wasn’t anyone to witness it anyway. Kurt walked in and made his way to the living room. The television was still on and when Santana walked in after him he asked, “What movie?”. She shrugged and sat down on the sofa “Final destination.”
Kurt made a face but sat down next to her. Santana pulled up her knees and crawled in closer to Kurt. It was nice, how they sat, it was all much more natural as they could now just be friends. And he had to give it to Santana, against all odds, being friends with her came naturally (if she let you in, that is).

With the next commercial Kurt brought up the question that’d been burning on his lips since Friday, “San?”
“Mmm.”
“The song you sang on Friday,” he thought he felt her tense slightly next to him, “it was about Brittany right?”, He felt her head bop against his shoulder and frowned, “San?” but kept his gaze on the television, as he knew Santana and he knew she would feel stared at if he did, when they discussed touchy subjects.
“I’m nodding.” Santana replied.
Kurt’s lips curled in a smile before he continued, “You don’t really think it’s hopeless do you?” and now he could feel her shrug, “I don’t see why I should still have hope for it to work out between us.”
“Have you tried talking to her? You know, seeing as she probably thinks you’re straight.”
Santana didn’t reply anymore.

After a short moment of silence, the television still playing, she jumped up and said, “I’ll go make dinner.”
Kurt acknowledged the fact they were done talking about Brittany and just said, “Good ‘cause I’m starving.”
When Santana disappeared in the kitchen, Kurt grabbed his phone and texted Blaine, “Missing you xxx”, he smiled when it only took Blaine seconds to reply, “Then come see me. I’m downtown. I just want to continue last night ;) xxx”

Kurt’s heart skipped a beat and as he thought back about the previous night, he wasn’t able to help himself. He loved Santana but he loved Blaine more, and if he was being really selfish, he wouldn’t want to be with anyone else but Blaine.

"San, I'm going out." He yelled, skipping to the hallway to get his coat.
"Wait, where are you going?" she asked popping her head from around the kitchen's doorway.
"Just out, don't wait up." he smiled and grabbed his coat from the hanger.
"Who you going with? Kurt, we're supposed to look like you've stayed the night." she said, her voice sounded sharp and annoyed.
"Don't worry about it." Kurt nodded and put on his coat while he stepped out.

End Notes: three more chapters! <3
