“Hello?” Blaine smiled as he heard Kurt's voice through the other end of the line.
“Told you I'd call you, didn't I?” Blaine replied.
“You certainly did.” He could hear Kurt's smile through his words, “so how was it at your parents?”
“It was alright,” he admitted, “I missed them more than I want to admit to myself.” and it was true. The moment his mum and dad had hugged him, he'd realized that nothing could ever make him stop loving his parents. “but they'll never let go off my decision.” He added with a sigh.
“Blaine, it's only normal. I don't think my dad would find it very easy either if I made the decision you made.”
“I guess so.” he shrugged, knowing Kurt couldn't actually see him. “I miss you.” he added, needing the feeling of Kurt's strong arms around him. “I wish you were here.”
“I could come see you tomorrow?” Kurt suggested.
“Can we have a picnic? Coop said the weather should be really good tomorrow?” he suggested.
“That sounds like a great idea!” Kurt sounded excited.
“Don't be so surprised.” Blaine giggled.
“I'm not! I'm just really excited! Anyway, so you and Coop had a good talk?” Kurt inquired.
Blaine blushed and felt grateful Kurt couldn't see him right now. “Yeah it was alright. Brotherly stuff and all.” He replied and cringing as he thought back about how Cooper had stopped at the chemist on the way.
“Coop?” Blaine asked confused.
“Come on.” he nudged his little brother, and the two of them went inside. Blaine following his big brother, realizing what was happening when Cooper stopped halfway the aisle they were in. “Pick your size.” Cooper beamed.
Blaine felt himself flush. He was close to digging a hole and crawling in it, or throwing Cooper in it, he had not decided yet. He tried to drown out the laughter of his bigger brother as he looked at the packs of condoms stacked in front of him. ‘For your pleasure.' it read and all kinds of other stuff about sizes, flavours, and what have you. Blaine wasn't prude but his town wasn't big and he could just imagine his mum's reaction when the cashier would tell her that her youngest son had bought ribbed banana flavoured condoms ‘for his own pleasure', the other day. He felt Cooper nudge his side and his eyes fell on the bottle Coop was holding. ‘lube'. It was then Blaine wished he could turn back time and had never talked to his brother about sex in the first place. It was already awkward enough without Coop making this is as enjoyable for himself as he could.
“You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?” Blaine hissed.
Cooper raised his hands in defence. “I just want you to be safe, sex beast.” He ruffled Blaine's hair, laughing.
“Lower your voice.” Blaine insisted, looking around nervously. The image of his mum dropping all her groceries, in shock, filling his mind again.
“Aw Blaine, it's the most natural of human needs there is. I'm glad you'll get to experience it soon.” Cooper said, not bothering to lower his voice.
Wanting to leave that place as quick as possible, Blaine grabbed the first pack of condoms he could get his hands on and stormed off to the cash point, leaving Cooper in the aisle and hearing him call after him. “You forgot the lube!!”
Cooper would pay for that one day. The only upside to the whole ordeal was that he was so annoyed with Cooper, he'd totally forgotten to be embarrassed when paying. It was only after being back in the car, looking over his new purchase, and waiting for his brother to arrive again, that it clicked why the cashier had looked at him with twinkling eyes and had whispered “well done”. He'd grabbed an XL. Blaine groaned in annoyance at irritating big brothers, unashamed cashiers and the fact he'd probably had to get through it all over again at some point.
“Woah someone's quite overestimating himself.” Cooper laughed, getting on the driver's seat.
“Just drop me off already.” Blaine scoffed, looking out the window and ignoring his brother as much as possible.
Blaine shuddered at the memory, hearing Kurt's voice asking if he was still there. “oh yes! Sorry, got lost in my own thoughts.”
“So tomorrow then?”
“Tomorrow.” Blaine nodded.
“I'll text you about times later. Need to tell my dad first.” Kurt explained.
“That's okay.”
“I'll see you tomorrow, Blaine. I love you.” Kurt told.
“I love you too.” Blaine replied, enjoying the butterflies he always got when Kurt told him that he loved him.
Blaine made his way downstairs the moment he got Kurt's text, saying he was waiting in the parking lot. Blaine spotted Kurt's car immediately and beamed, crossing the parking lot as fast as possible. He longed for Kurt. When Kurt saw Blaine he couldn't help but feel his tummy make a tumble. He watched Blaine get in and immediately leaned in for a kiss. “I missed you.” he smiled, brushing his finger over Blaine's face.
“I missed you too.”
It wasn't a long drive to the park, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Kurt had turned up his radio and the two of them were singing along as loud as they could. “We still need you to find a song to sing for your dad.” Blaine mentioned. Kurt nodded. “You haven't changed your mind about it yet, have you?”
“No, of course not. It's just. I mean...I just don't know which song.”
Kurt parked the car and helped Blaine getting all the stuff out of the boot. A big, plaid blanket and a filled picnic basket were predicting a perfect afternoon. They walked around for a while, trying to find the perfect spot and eventually settled down, not too far from the path and near a pond, because Blaine wanted to feed some ducks.
Blaine was the first one to open the basket and feasted his eyes with everything inside. The food at the hospital wasn't all too bad but it wasn't as good as a picnic with Kurt, nothing was. Kurt watched how Blaine got all excited over the food and smile. He'd done his very best to try and pick as many things as possible he thought Blaine would like.
“Oh my god! Chocolate dipped strawberries!” Blaine whooped, “I thought they only did that in movies!”
“They sure as hell do in real life too.” Kurt laughed, hiding the fact he'd spend all morning spilling chocolate all over himself while making those strawberries. “Keep those for last, please.” Kurt suggested as he saw Blaine wanting to take a bite.
“oh,” giggling, “yeah you're right. I got carried away. Okay, you lead.” Blaine winked.
Kurt swallowed and grabbed some sandwiches from the basket. Blaine followed his example and took a bite, making Kurt laugh when the stuffing came out the other end and landed on Blaine's shirt. “How old are you Blaine?” he winked, grabbing a napkin and handing it over to his boyfriend. Blaine shrugged, wiped it off and pouted. “Five?”
Kurt leaned in, kissed his nose and chuckled. “Must be around that age.”
Blaine chuckled before taking another bite off his sandwich. He raised his face, letting the sunlight stroke his features. Kurt looked at him in awe, it was simple moments like this that Blaine's beauty hit him more than it usual did. But it worried him how much paler Blaine had gotten. He remembered when they'd met first, Blaine had still been a boy with some colour in his cheeks, even Blaine's eyes didn't shine as much as they used to. He could feel the pull on his heart when he thought about the time they possibly still had left. It didn't seem long enough.
“Kurt?” He blinked, dazed, to see a worried looking Blaine stare at him. “You okay?”
“Yes of course,” Kurt smiled, “just got lost in thought.” He linked his fingers in Blaine's free hand and crawled closer to his boyfriend. “I love you.”
Blaine closed the space between him and Kurt and pulled him in for an intense kiss. He pushed Kurt down and let his fingers roam his boyfriend's chest. He smiled, hearing Kurt making a growl in the back of his throat. Feeling his slender fingers tug on his hair and felt nails digging into his scalp. He let out a small yelp when Kurt pushed his chest and made them roll over, so he was sitting on top of Blaine. Kurt looked down at a flustered Blaine, smiling triumphantly, and tilted his head. “You look quite adorable right now. I should take a picture.”
“Shut up and kiss me.” Blaine growled, grabbing Kurt's side and pulling him down.
Blaine had to eventually push Kurt off, so he could catch his breath, feeling lightheaded.
“Are you okay?” Kurt asked, his head on Blaine's chest, feeling Blaine's heart hammer in his chest.
“Don't worry.” Blaine panted, linking his fingers with Kurt's. “I would love one of those strawberries now though.” Blaine smiled. Kurt grabbed one of them and fed them Blaine, making strawberry juice drip down his chin. Blaine wiped it off with the back of his hand, beaming at Kurt. “Today is perfect.”
“I couldn't agree more.” Kurt smiled, his hand tracing patterns on Blaine's chest as they absorbed the sunlight.
“Blaine?” Kurt broke the silence that had spread between them, enjoying each other's company and the quietude of the park.
“Mhmm?”
“Have they told you how long you've got left?” Kurt tried to keep his voice as steady as possible.
“Kurt, I told you that they didn't?”
“I know but I thought maybe you were just trying to keep it from me?”
“I wouldn't keep it from you, Kurt.”
“I'm sorry, I just get scared that we won't have enough time anymore.” Kurt sighed.
“Every second with you is a second I feel more alive than anything.” Blaine smiled, “you have given me more than anyone ever had just by loving me.”
“I'd do anything for you, Blaine.” Kurt smiled.
“Kurt,” Blaine sat up, feeling his heart beat like crazy in his chest, “There was something I wanted to ask you.”
