It had been weeks since the incident with Kurt, Jake and I, Kurt’s face had healed and Rachel was now back so he had gone to stay with her in apartment. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed he didn’t stay, I’d grown fond of his company, his habit of waking up in the middle of the night to drink warm milk, which I found adorable. It was during these 3am sessions we had our deepest conversations and I now felt like I’d known him forever. I was still determined to ask him out on a date, I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
“You know, if you keep putting this off I’m gonna ask him for you and I’m sure you don’t want that, but at this point it’ll be selfish of me not to intervene” Wes said, leaning in my door way.
“I’ll ask Wes, the time just has to be right.” I replied, turning my focus back to the sunset outside my window, I rested my chin on my hands, which were crossed hugging my legs to my chest.
“It’s been two weeks, why isn’t the time right yet?”
I rolled my eyes, Wes had been on my back since that night about me asking him out, and God I wanted to, I just didn’t know how. My phone started ringing and I reached to answer it, I looked to see who was calling and my heart skipped a beat. Kurt.
“Hello?” I breathed into the phone.
Wes smiled knowingly and walked away, chuckling to himself. Asshole.
“Hey, uumm… I hope this isn’t weird but Rachel isn’t here and I got bored and I was wondering .. about stuff and I thought of you… in a … non-creepy way y’know and I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have called, bye.”
“No wait!” I nearly yelled into the phone.
The line was silent, but he hadn’t hung up, which was good, I could hear him breathing on the other line, a small smile appeared on my face.
“You don’t have to go, however creepy you are.” I teased, he laughed.
That sound, his laugh, was now one of my favourite things in the world and I was now making it my mission to always make him do that.
“So… What made you think of me?”
“Well, I was thinking of depressing musicians that mope around with their guitars playing those lonesome songs in bars and well you just popped into mind.”
“Are you serious?”
“No”
We laughed.
“Umm… I have something to ask you, you can say no if you’d like but, I’ve been wanting to ask for a while and I just haven’t gotten around to it”
“What’s that?” he replied in a slightly flirty voice.
I inhaled, well here goes, I thought, this could go well or not… I hope it goes well.
“Would you….”
“Yeah?”
“Go on a date with me sometime?”
I held my breath, waiting on his response, panicking when the line was silent for what seemed to be minutes.
“I didn’t mean to be so forward, I mean you can say no if you want, I don’t want you to say yes cause you don’t want to make me feel bad, oh God, I’m going to bag my face now”
“Have I told you, you’re adorable when panicked?”
He’d just called me adorable, the line went silent as we both realized what he’d just said. The line was silent but I was doing somersaults inside. He cleared his throat.
“I’d love to, just tell me when and where.” He said softly.
“I’ll call with details tomorrow.”
“Blaine Anderson are you just looking for an excuse to call me?”
“Maybe.”
I smiled at his soft laughter as we hung up. I sat there, with the phone in my hand smiling until my face ached. I was going on a date with Kurt. Me, on a date with the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen, it was my lucky day.
I had yet another night off work, so I decided to order pizza and watch romantic movies for the night. I was in the middle of A Walk To Remember when my phone rang again, I answered without looking on the caller ID.
“Would you mind meeting me at your workplace like… now?”
“Umm sure, Kurt are you okay?”
“Oh I’m fine… just looking company, I came here but the bartender on duty said it’s your night off and I didn’t want to just show up at your place so…”
“You’re free to just show up at my place as I am in the middle of a sappy movie marathon.”
“I’m willing to bet my life savings you’re watching A Walk To Remember.”
“How’d you know?”
“I’m just that good. I’ll be there in 10minutes.”
“Okay.” I smiled at the opportunity to spend more time with Kurt.
I contemplated cleaning up a little, but decided against it, I didn’t want to seem too eager. I was on the couch in my sweatpants and worn Michigan T-Shirt, shoving pizza slices into my face when I heard a knock at the door.
“It’s open!” I yelled.
I heard it open, then close and saw Kurt coming down the hallway.
“Blaine Anderson, in these times you’re still leaving the door to your home unlocked?”
“Worried someone’s gonna come in here and kill me?”
“Not at all.” He replied.
I paused the movie and turned my attention to him.
“Company huh?”
He turned red. Adorable.
“Yeah, umm, Rachel’s out at some rehearsal and wasn’t coming back for now and it got kind of lonely.”
He shrugged sheepishly, staring down at the floor.
“I think you just wanted to see me.” I teased, catching his gaze as his head snapped up.
“What?! No! I mean, it’s nice to see but y’know-“
I laughed, interrupting him.
“Rude.”
I couldn’t help but laugh again at his embarrassment.
“Have a seat.” I said, he did, “Would you like a slice of pizza?”
He wrinkled his nose, but took a slice.
“I haven’t had one of these in a while, been on a diet, but what the hell.”
He took a bite, his face displaying the utmost pleasure, as if he was rediscovering just how awesome NY pizza was.
“So, how far are you?” He asked, nodding towards the Tv. I pressed play.
“Oooh this is my favourite part!” He said and got up and sat right beside me, he began quoting the movie and all I could do was watch. He caught me staring a few times but he was too cute for me to be embarrassed. I noticed his hand gripping the edge of the couch. What would happen if I just took it? What’s the worst that could happen? I took a deep breath and reached out, taking his hand into mine, playing with his fingers. He gasped and turned to look at me, face burning red, I smiled, using my free hand to tuck his hair behind his hair. Call me stupid but I think we were having our moment, that moment where we gaze deeply into each other’s eyes, slowly lean forward and meet in a kiss like never before, but of course I don’t have such luck as my phone buzzed in my pocket, making us both jump. I swear to God if this is Wes I’m going to murder him. I didn’t bother check the phone as it was now my enemy. We spent the rest of the movie awkwardly separated and when it ended, he stood stretching his arms above his head, revealing a small patch of pale skin that I won’t lie, I would dream about.
“I should go.”
“About our date,” I said “How about that restaurant that just opened up down the street?”
“Oooh, nice choice, I’ve been wanting to visit since it opened, when?”
“Is tomorrow night around 8 good for you?”
“Perfect.”
“Awesome, see you then Kurt.”
“See you then.” He smiled in my doorway, before walking down the hall and went into the elevator, I waited ‘til the doors closed before I closed my door.
I may or may not have done a victory screech. There is absolutely no proof of this.
