CHAPTER 19
To say Quinn was shocked was an understatement. She looked like a ghost. All the blood had drained from her face.
"...What?"
Kurt had finally noticed what he had just said and he got really nervous. "Well... I mean... Not like love love... I mean it's too early to... and well I just barely know him... he's a boy... nobody seems to understand why there are boys who like boys ... and..."
Quinn interrupted. "Kurt, Kurt, Kurt. Stop it. Just... just stop it. Let me talk okay?"
The sound of Quinn's voice was everything Kurt needed to shut up immediately. It was harsh and low, menacing and very, very serious.
"Are you saying you are in love with a guy?"
Kurt could only nod. He was done lying to this girl. This girl who had been his best friend since she was born. But he couldn't deny that he was scared. Scared of her reaction. Scared of her rejecting him. But then...
"Oh yes! I knew it!"
Wait, what?
"What?!"
"Oh please Kurt. I have known since ever! Don't think I didn't notice you checking Sam's ass when we were at Wes's party senior year!"
Kurt looked indignant. A blush covered his cheeks. All preoccupation gone and he was smiling shyly while Quinn teased him.
"I did not!"
"Did too! You were drooling over him."
"Okay yeah! The guy has a good ass! You can't deny it."
"No, I can't! And I won't... But I think Finn's is better..." Quinn said and now it was time for her to blush.
"Oh my God! Quinn Fabray you have the hots for Finn!" Yep, now it was his opportunity to tease.
And by the blush that kept rising on Quinn's face it was working perfectly.
"No!" She started but then she looked into Kurt's eyes and he was giving her 'a look' and she blurted out "well maybe I do and maybe he likes me too but I couldn't be with him because I was with you so when he asked me out I had to say no and I really regret it because I always knew that you were gay but then I didn't know if you were ever going to tell so then I..."
"Quinn, Quinn! Relax! It's okay! I understand, well... barely. You have to learn how to speak a little more slowly..."
They both went silent and stared at each other's eyes and then burst out laughing.
Kurt got up of the chair and went to hug Quinn. They embrace for a minute and when they parted they were smiling.
"So... you like Finn?" He asked with a teasing tone.
Quinn blushes a little bit more.
"Yeah... I really, really like him Kurt. He is so sweet and so kind and he is so good with me. He treats me like a princess." She sighed dreamingly and Kurt rolled his eyes fondly.
"And what? I don't treat you like a princess?" He said with a mocking hurt.
Quinn let out a chuckle "Of course you do! But you don't treat me like your princess, he does."
Kurt smiled lovingly at his best girl friend. He wouldn't change her for anything. She was so understanding and so kind.
"I love you Quinn." He said without thinking. Quinn looked up immediately with a look of shock and then she beamed. She literally beamed.
"I love you too Kurt." She leaned down and kissed his cheek.
He smiled and climbed to the bed with her. There were a few silent seconds when suddenly Kurt opened his mouth... "Well, then it was good I was busy with something else that I totally forgot to buy you a ring. What a waste of money that would've been!" Quinn cracked up. They laughed like little children for a few minutes and then they just laid side by side on the bed while Quinn told him all about her trip. They talked for hours. Until the ring of the phone interrupted them.
Kurt shots up of the bed and went to get the phone that lies on his desk hoping for the call he had been expecting.
"Hello?"
"Mr. Hitler do you want me to answer for you?" the maid asks from the phone downstairs.
"Hello, who is this?" Kurt asks carefully.
"Hello. My name is Oskar Barth."
'Oh good. He remembered what I asked him.' Kurt thought.
"Agatha, it's okay. I got it." Kurt said calmly. But Agatha wasn't so easy to convince. She had to know who was the person calling before passing the call.
"Are you sure sir?" She said hesitantly. Kurt rolled his eyes.
"Yes, Agatha. I am sure. He's a friend of mine. Now let me talk to him."
"Yes sir." She had to let go at the end. After all she was just a maid and she had to do as he said.
"Hello, Oskar. My friend. How are you doing? Are you done with the project for next week?" He had to pretend for a few more seconds. He knew that Agatha was still listening on the other phone line. She had to make sure. Oskar seemed to know what he was doing immediately. And he followed his lead.
"Hey man! I've been good. But unfortunately I haven't finished the project. It's too long and too difficult for me. I don't even want to do it."
After Oskar said that, Kurt heard the click of the other phone been placed where on its dock. Agatha had believed them.
"Oskar. Thank God you called! I was really looking forward to this call." Kurt said eagerly. And then remembered something. "Oh! And thank you for remembering the thing about the name."
Oskar laughed at the other side of the line.
"Sure. I know how much this means to you and I didn't want to screw it up. So I made sure I remembered what to do exactly with my phone call..." He could practically hear Oskar smiling and being proud of himself. But the question that he had been holding down was still unasked...
"Oskar...?"
"Yes...?" Kurt could tell that Oskar already knew what he was going to ask. Of course he knew, he had probably called because he had news. And he also knew because that was the first reason Kurt had gone to him in the first place.
"Have you got any... you know... news?" Kurt asked hesitantly. He didn't know if he wanted to hear the answer or not. He would very much like if Blaine could get out of that hell as soon as possible. And Schindler had already told him that he was going to get Blaine and his family out in a matter of days but you never know. Anything could go wrong in a matter of seconds.
Oskar sighed. This could not mean something good. Something was wrong and Kurt could tell.
"Oskar, tell me what's wrong. Now!" Kurt was getting nervous, very nervous.
"Kurt, you have to be very strong for what's coming."
Okay, so something was wrong. And apparently something big.
"Okay...?" Kurt said. He was dying to know what was going on.
"Do you think you have space for four more people at your house for tomorrow night?" Oskar asked laughing.
Kurt gave a sigh of relief. Everything was going to be alright.
