CHAPTER 17

"Yes."

"Yes?" Kurt's eyes were wide. He couldn't believe it... did he just say yes?

"Yes, Kurt. I'll help you." Oskar was smirking; he could see Kurt's excitement. The boy had very expressive eyes.

Kurt had to contain himself from jumping up and down and then running towards Schindler and hugging him. When he was sure he had calmed enough and that he wasn't going to squeal when he opened his mouth, he spoke.

"Oh my God. Thank you very much. You don't even know how much this means to me!" And after thinking for a second of what he had just said he added "And to Blaine."

Schindler smiled. This guy thought he hadn't seen the way his eyes sparkled when he talked about this Blaine guy... yeah, he did know how important this was for Kurt. He had nothing against Kurt's... umm... preferences. He had actually once thought he had those preferences himself. He had learned that he could not judge people for who they loved or how they looked, but how they loved and how they were inside.

"Yes, I can see how important this guy is for you. I would say that you are in love but maybe you just like him right now because I think it's too soon to call it love. Or maybe not, maybe it was love at first sight." Schindler seemed thoughtful but Kurt looked like a ghost. All the color drained from his face. Oskar's words had caught him off-guard. What was this man saying? Was he implying that he was in love with Blaine? It couldn't be. Those kind of preferences were not acceptable anywhere. Those people who were... who were gay were hated by everyone. So the best option was to deny it and feign ignorance.

"Excuse me? I don't know what you are talking about Oskar. And it really offends me that you are saying such things about me."

He tried, he really tried but Oskar didn't seem to catch the awkwardness that Kurt was feeling.

"Oh please. Don't try to hide it from me. I know what being in love looks like. I've been in love and I've seen so many couples come here and they have that look on their face as if everything it's right even though everything is wrong, but they are with their love and that's what is important to them. And I don't care if you are in love with a guy. It doesn't matter, I once thought I was in love with a boy but I wasn't, but I thought..."

Kurt just had to laugh at that. This was a good man in front of him.

"Okay, Oskar. Thank you so much. You really are a great man and I really appreciate your help."

"Of course. And now let me do some paperwork so I can get them out as soon as possible. And you go and tell him the good news. I should be able to get them out by tomorrow evening or maybe the day after tomorrow first hour in the morning."

That was so much earlier than Kurt had thought.

"What? Oh wow! I didn't know it could be so soon. Thank you."

"Yes, well... this is a... special and unusual case." Oskar said with a smirk.

"Thank you."

"Yeah, yeah. You can keep thanking me later. Now go and tell your little lover boy the good news."

Kurt laughed out loud.

"Thank you. Can you call me when you know when you can get them? I want to be here when they arrive."

"Sure. Just give me your number and I'll call you."

"Okay." Kurt wrote his house phone number on a piece of paper. "But I want to ask you to not give your real name please. Just give your first name and make up a surname. If my father finds out that I know you... we are all screwed."

"Yeah, sure. I'll call you when I know when I will be able to get them out."

"Yes, please. And thank you. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it."

"Yeah, yeah I know. Now go! Go and tell your little lover boy the good news."

"Yeah. Right. Well, see you later. And thank you again."

And with that he left the office and Oskar was left alone.

Kurt ran down the stairs and out of the place. He got into his car and drove as fast as he could to his house. Once he got there he took the car to the garage and went into the house immediately. He went into his room just to not raise suspicions from the house staff and then he went down the stairs and took off into the forest.

When he got to the back of the forest he saw the boy pacing back and forward by the side of the fence. He looked nervous and that made Kurt smile with the thought of a smile lightning up his face when he found out about the good news.

He made his way towards the fence and when Blaine saw him a ghost of a smile took place on his face.

"Hey, you came today."

"I did. My meeting with Schindler was pretty short."

Blaine's face fell. 'Oh...' Kurt thought 'He thinks that is a bad sign. Well, let's cut his misery short.' But Blaine immediately interrupted him.

"Well... I know you tried really hard. I know you did your best. We'll find some other way out." Blaine kept rambling and Kurt could only look at him with a fond look. Until he decided it was enough and that he should announce the good news he had brought with himself.

"Blaine, Blaine. Calm down." Kurt tried to calm Blaine down but it seemed impossible. Blaine kept babbling and muttering unintelligible things under his breath. Kurt had to shut him up.

"Blaine! He agreed to get you out!"

That did it. Blaine finally shut up. But he didn't shut his mouth. Instead he gaped. He looked like a fish out of the water. He seemed to do that a lot.

"Wha... what did you say?" Blaine asked hesitantly.

"He agreed to get you out of here. He said he was going to do some paperwork and he was going to get you to his factory tomorrow evening or the day after tomorrow by the morning. "

Blaine couldn't believe it. He was certain that this Schindler guy was not going to help. He thought that this man was going to laugh on Kurt's face (or well, not laugh because of the last name Kurt has, but something like that) and not help at all. He thought this man was going to refuse to help. Why would he help a poor guy and his family? He was just like any other person in here. He was no special case. Anyone in this field deserves the opportunity he is receiving, but instead they are helping him. He can't be more grateful.

"Oh my, Kurt. Thank you. Thank you so much. You don't know how much this means to me. I don't know how I will ever be able to pay you back."

Kurt shook his head.

"Of course not, Blaine. You don't have to pay me back. I didn't do anything. I just needed to help. You have become a really important person to me and I couldn't just let you slip through my fingers when I just got you. You are such an amazing person and I don't want to lose you."

A faint blush takes place on Kurt's face and he really hopes that Blaine doesn't notice it. And Blaine doesn't, he is too busy trying to tone down his own blush a little too.

They stay in comfortable silence for a few seconds until Blaine breaks it. His words are just above a whisper but Kurt can still hear them.

"You are important to me too, you know?" Kurt had heard the words, but he wanted to hear them again so he made a noise that made Blaine think that Kurt had not understood and he repeated them.

"You are important to me too. And not just because you helped me but because I have been able to know you and to look at whom you really are. An amazing, kind, generous, selfless person."

Kurt let out a breathy laugh. This was getting to personal. This had never been one of their constant conversations. The topic was always about how Blaine and his family could get out of the concentration camp. It had only gotten personal when Blaine had found out about his parents. But never this personal. This was too close to their hearts. And they had to change the topic before this got too personal and the issue got out of hand.

"So, did you talk to Oskar about anything else other than getting us out?" Blaine asked trying to lighten the heavy mood that had surrounded them when they confessed how important they were to one another, but for Kurt it didn't help. Because yes, they had talked about other stuff but they were Blaine-related and not the kind of 'oh he is my best friend' no, it had been a very intimate and deep conversation. He had squeezed information, about his love for Blaine, out of Kurt.

"No, nothing. Um... Blaine, I have to go. I just remembered that I had stuff to do from school and all that. So... yeah. I'll see you later?"

Blaine's face fell when Kurt dismissed conversation with him. Maybe he had pushed too far when he had told Kurt about what he thought about him. But he smiled anyway, nodded and said goodbye.
~.~.~.~

'Shit, shit, shit, shit...' was all Kurt could think on his way back home. The conversation had gotten too deep with Blaine. He had never felt that uncomfortable around him before. He saw the way Blaine's face had fallen when he said he had to go. But he couldn't risk opening up more and let every feeling, he had been hiding since he met Blaine, out. He knew that if Blaine kept looking at him with those beautiful hazel eyes like he had hung the moon he was going to let it all out without even noticing, so he had to be careful.

When he entered the house a specific odor hit him on the face. A mix between the scent lilies and vanilla surrounded his house. It could only mean one thing.

Quinn was here. This was going to be interesting...
