CHAPTER 14
"Kurt, my parents... my parents are alive!"
It was clear that Blaine was excited but he was trying not to show it too much because if someone was to hear or see something, everything could go wrong.
"Yes Blaine, I heard." Kurt said smiling.
Blaine was smiling so widely. Kurt had never seen him smile so much, except maybe when he was with his sister.
Blaine seemed to get out of his trance of happiness and focus on Kurt.
"Oh Kurt. I'm sorry, I am just so happy!"
Kurt laughed lightly and shushed the boy.
"Don't worry Blaine. I understand. But I came here with news."
"News? Good news or bad news?"
"Maybe good news..."
"Okay...?"
Blaine was staring at Kurt with such intensity that Kurt stomach made flips, but he had to tell Blaine what he had found. He had to concentrate.
"I found someone who maybe can help you..."
Blaine's eyes widened.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes. His name is Oskar. Oskar Schindler. He is the owner of an enamelware factory. His workers are all Jews."
Blaine was still wide-eyed. Was Kurt serious? Was someone other than Kurt trying to help the Jewish?
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. I don't know for sure if it's going to work but it is worth a try, isn't it?"
"Of course." Blaine didn't hesitate. He had to get his family out of here and he had to try everything possible and even the impossible to get them out. And he knew he had Kurt's support.
"Yes, well. I am planning on visiting him tomorrow. As soon as possible."
Blaine smiled. Yes, he had Kurt to lean on. This young man was the most compassionate person he had ever met.
"Thank you Kurt. Thank you so much."
Kurt beamed. Blaine was such a nice and good guy. He was sweet and it was obvious that he loved his sister more than anything in the world. Evelyn was such a cute and adorable girl. He fell in love the moment he saw her. Her adorable hair falling and sometimes covering her beautiful green eyes, her beautiful smile, she was the prettiest girl he had ever met. She looked so much like Blaine, the dark hair, the sparkling smile. Kurt couldn't comprehend how they could still have that spark in their eyes and that blinding smile after all they've been through. The little girl looked tired and thin but Blaine looked exhausted. He looked like he was about to collapse at any minute, and he was skeletal.
"Blaine... can I ask you a question?"
Blaine seemed to hesitate a bit but after a few seconds he nodded.
"What... what do they make you do here?"
Blaine froze. Should he answer that question? Was he ready to talk about it? Was he going to break down if he did?
"I... I... um..."
Kurt understood. Blaine was so not ready to talk about it. It must be awful. He was young and strong. His work must be the hardest.
"Hey... it's okay... shush. You don't have to tell me. I understand; you are not ready yet. But when you are, know that I am here for you." Kurt smiled encouragingly.
Blaine smiled back.
"Thank you Kurt. I know that one day I will be ready and I will be out of here and able to tell you properly."
"Okay... but one more question."
Blaine looked dubious but nodded nonetheless.
"Are they treating your sister disrespectfully? Are they exploiting her? Are they doing something unforgivable? Are they... are they abusing her in some way?"
Kurt was rambling, but he couldn't stand the thought of someone hurting and scarring for life this little, innocent girl.
Blaine seemed shocked by Kurt's concern but then he couldn't help but smile.
"No Kurt, you don't have to worry about that. They make her work, do certain things but they never abuse her in any way."
Kurt sighed in relief. He just couldn't handle that thought; it was too painful to even think about it. He didn't want to imagine little, poor, sweet, innocent Evelyn being harassed by a big, protuberant bastard.
Kurt looked up and saw how late it was already. The guards would probably start looking for everyone to take them to their respective bunks.
"Blaine, it's getting late. I think it's for the best if I leave..."
Blaine seemed to notice the sunset too and nodded.
"Yes, thank you Kurt. For everything."
"No problem. You know you can count on me. But now I have to go and rest because tomorrow it's a big day. It's a long drive to the factory. If I can't come tomorrow I will come the day after okay?"
Blaine nodded and smiled.
"Goodnight Blaine." Kurt said while walking backwards towards the forest.
"Goodnight Kurt. Sleep tight."
Kurt smiled and turned away. After this exhausting evening he was going to do anything possible to get Schindler to get Blaine and his family out of this hell.
