Chapter Two: When Eyes Met
Trying to find their seats, Sam and Blaine walked down the crowded aisle. They made there way half way down on the ground floor, and the lady pointed them to their seats. Blaine made his way down towards their seats first, saying excuse me once or twice and stepping over people's purses and drinks. Sam was counting the seat numbers out loud and people started starring at him. Blaine walked faster and finally found their seat, right in the dead center. They were the best seats he had ever had at a show. He sat down and so did Sam, and Blaine smiled at him.
“Dude, these seat are dead center. How did you mange to get these?” Blaine said, patting him on the shoulder.
Sam smirked and said, “I know a guy.”
Blaine rolled his eyes, “Well, this guy must be a miracle worker, because these seats are perfection Sam. Thank you.”
Sam smiled, “Oh he is, you'll see. You're welcome now, and in advanced, buddy.” Sam patted him on the shoulder as the lights started to dim and the curtain started to rise.
Blaine whispered, “Wait...Welcome for what, exactly?”
Sam shushed him and the first song played. Blaine was a little distracted, trying to figure out what Sam meant for the first couple of seconds, but then the music set in and he found himself singing along. Blaine watched all the men singing, “Hello!” with their Books of Mormon in their hands, and laughed when Elder Cunningham screamed his line.
The song ended, and the audience clapped and whistled at the men as they stood there all smiling widely as the script said. Blaine clapped along with the audience and the stage went dark for a scene change. Sam had an eager grin on his face in the dim-lit auditorium, and Blaine wondered why he kept smiling the way he was. The lights came back up and a new man was standing on the stage.
Sam leaned over and whispered to Blaine, “This is what you're welcome for.”
Blaine looked at the man who was turned around, not facing them. He starred at the back of his head, looking at his light brown hair. The man was slender, but he had a nice build to him. He started to sing, and Blaine's jaw dropped. He slowly looked over to Sam, and Sam didn't meet Blaine's glance. The man turned around and started singing towards the audience. Blaine couldn't keep his eyes off of the man's face. His bright blue eyes glimmering in the spotlight of the stage, his light skin shining off the stage and into Blaine's eyes. Blaine listened to the man speak, and his body shivered at the sound. Blaine knew that voice. HE knew that face. That voice. The way that he felt when he heard him was like a memory he couldn't quite grasp.
Blaine looked around for a program to get the name of this character, playing Elder Price. He soon remembered Sam suggested not getting them, to preserve the trees and what not. That bastard. Blaine had already turned his phone off, so he couldn't Google the cast members. He knew that face. The man was belting out the last couple of notes in, “I Believe”, and lowered his head to make direct eye contact with Blaine, and Blaine froze in his seat. The man did the same, and as the curtain closed for intermission, they didn't disconnect their eyes. They knew each other somehow. They both knew it and felt it. Sam poked Blaine and he jumped.
“So, how did you like the first Act?” Sam said, smiling at Blaine.
Blaine was about to tackle hi to the floor, “Who is that? Who is Elder Price? I know him, Sam.”
Sam leaned back, “I have no idea. But,” he reached inside his pocket and pulled out two tickets, “we can find out backstage?”
Blaine grabbed the tickets from his hand and noticed they were backstage passes to meet the cast, “Sam Evan's.”
Sam stood up, “I'm going to head to the bathroom really quick, don”t let anyone grab my seat.”
“SAM!...” Blaine yelled, but Sam kept walking.
Blaine was feeling so many emotions he felt as though he was going to burst into a thousand pieces. He KNEW those eyes. Those perfect, crystal blue eyes that pierced his heart. Was this man one of his employees at one time? Was he just someone he passed on the street? Blaine decided to just wait until after to figure out who this man was. Sam had returned to his seat as soon as the lights started to dim again, and the man was on stage, singing and speaking his lines again. For the rest of the play, Blaine watched his movements, his body language, and his eyes.
The finale scene of the show was almost over, and Blaine felt a sense of joy, but remorse. He loved to hear this man sing, but he just wanted to remember who he was. All of the Mormon's came out and sang the finale song, and then the bows started taking place. The man Blaine was watching was the last to come back out, and the whole audience stood and clapped. Whistling and hollering for the young man. He smiled, and Blaine clapped along with all of the people, making eye contact with the man again. The man was soon covered by the curtains closing, and the lights came up.
“You ready to head backstage?” Sam asked Blaine.
“More than ever.” Blaine said, trying to make his way down the aisle.
Sam led him around the manny rows of seats and up onto the stage. Blaine took a second to look out into the audience. He had always dreamed of standing on a Broadway stage and singing his lungs out. Being a former Warbler at Dalton Academy, Blaine had a special place for music in his heart. Sam summoned him to walk through the backstage door, and he followed Sam through the small door. Suddenly, he was surrounded by countless men in white shits and skinny black ties. There was no way they would find Elder Price. Sam weaved through the tall men, chatting and high-fiving after their performance. Sam stopped Blaine, and Sam tapped the shoulder of a light haired man. HE turned around in shock and hugged Sam immediately.
“Sam Evan's, you stud!” the man said, smiling.
Blaine stood behind them awkwardly and looked around the room.
“Kurt Elizabeth Hummel!” Sam said loudly in Blaine's direction.
Blaine had his back turned away from them, but when he heard those words, he spun around quickly and looked at the man.
“Blaine Anderson?” Kurt said, smiling slowly and walking towards him.
“Kurt.” That's all Blaine could manage to say.
“You look very nice.” Kurt said, smiling at Blaine and looking him in the eyes.
“Thank you, Kurt. You were... completely astounding up there.”
Blaine remembered. Everything.
It was his second year at Dalton Academy. Blaine was rushing to a Warbler's meeting, and a small, porcelain skinned male stopped him as he was passing the stairs. They introduced themselves and Blaine took the boys hand and brought him to the Warbler's impromptu performance of Teenage Dream. This boys name was Kurt Hummel. He soon transferred back to his old school, McKinley High, and Blaine stayed at Dalton. Blaine always had a thing for him, but never told him. They just remained friends. They got coffee every morning at the Lima Bean together, they had movie marathons, and they even went shopping together. But then they stopped talking, and Blaine got promoted to Head Warbler, and they lost their connection. Blaine hadn't thought of Kurt in five years. He looked so different. Kurt towered over Blaine, and had a strong fitting facial structure that made him look his age. He was also muscular, and his voice had deepened a bit. His hair was a little lighter, and it was quiffed up to a perfect style. This was a whole new Kurt. All Blaine could do was stare at him. He couldn't do anything but stare.
“Blaine... Are you okay?” He heard the familiar voice say.
Blaine came blinked and realized he had been thinking and starring at Kurt for a long time, “Oh, oh yeah. I'm great, Kurt. It's just...”
“I've changed.” he laughed, “I know. I'm not baby face Hummel anymore. Thank God for puberty.” Kurt laughed and then smiled at Blaine.
Blaine returned the smile and rocked back and forth on his feet, “I should um... I should find Sam. He's my ride home.”
“Sam left about ten minutes ago while you were starring at me.” Kurt laughed, and blushed a little.
Blaine felt his whole face flush and looked down at the ground, “Oh. OH. Wait what?!”
Kurt put his hand on Blaines shoulder, “Relax. He didn't tell you?”
“Didn't tell me what?” he said, crossing his arms.
“That I was taking you home. He said that you knew... That he had some emergency shoot.” Kurt said while watching Blaine grin.
Blaine quickly stopped grinning and replied, “No. I didn't know. But I do know that I was definitely brought here on purpose tonight.” Blaine cursed at Sam in his head.
“Oh, so you didn't just come to see my raw, pure talent?” Kurt joked.
“But of course, Mr. Hummel. May I have an autograph?!” Blaine said, playing on, and rolled his sleeve up for Kurt to sign his arm.
“Fans these days...” Kurt said while shaking his head and giggling a little, “They just love for me to sign any body part they can get me to sign.”
Blaine looked at Kurt and Kurt exchanged the look, and they both died out in laughter. Kurt signed Blaine's arm, and Blaine rolled down his sleeve while still laughing.
“It was an honor meeting you, sir. Now, take me home.” He said, in a deep voice.
Kurt raised his eyebrows and laughed, “You aren't going to take me on a date first?”
Blaine suddenly realized what his last words had sounded like and started to sweat, “Oh, um no... That's not what I...”
“Chill, Blaine. I was kidding.” Kurt said, “Come on back to my dressing room so I can get changed and then I'll call James to come and pick us up.”
Blaine looked at him, “Why are you calling my chauffeur to come and get us?”
Kurt titled his head, “... I'm not. I'm calling mine...”
“Mt chauffeurs name is James.” Blaine said.
“What a coincidence!” Kurt said and took Blaine's hand to drag him through the crowd, and towards his dressing room.
Blaine's mind took him back to that day when he took Kurt's hand for the first time when they met, leading him to where Blaine needed to be, and now Kurt was doing the same to him. Blaine got the same feelings that he felt when they last held hands, and smiled to himself while the made their way down the hall towards Kurt's dressing room.
Kurt couldn't even believe that he was seeing, feeling, and holding Blaine Anderson's hand again. It was just like when Blaine had taken his hand on the steps of Dalton Academy. Kurt smiled to himself as he felt the rush of emotions flow through his body, and opened his dressing room door, leading Blaine inside.
“Welcome, to my humble second abode.” Kurt said while waving his arm around the dressing room.
“Damn, Kurt. You really did well.” Blaine ran his hand across the leather couch and admired the cityscape pictures hanging up all over the walls.
“It was tough, but I made it.” Kurt smiled while trying to undo his tie, “Marcus always gets this thing so tight, I can never manage to...” He struggled and pulled at his tie and then out his hands in the air.
Blaine shook his head and walked over to Kurt, “Here, I'm an expert at doing, and un-doing any sort of tie or bow tie.”
Blaine stepped up close to Kurt and looked at him, and then down at the knotted tie. He carefully worked his fingers to loosen the knot, and it slowly came undone. He felt Kurt's breath on his neck, and swallowed. Pulling the knot straight out, he slipped his hands under Kurt's collar of his shirt and pulled the tie over his head, and handed it to him.
“There you go.” Blaine said, smiling at Kurt.
Kurt tried not to let out the breath that he had been holding in when Blaine wrapped his hands around his neck and managed to speak, “Thank you, knot master.”
Blaine sat down on the couch and crossed his legs while leaning back. Kurt turned to his mirror and took off as much makeup as he could, and then slipped of his white shirt. Blaine almost choked on the water he had picked up and decided to drink when he saw Kurt's bear back. His back was all muscle. Not to much muscle, but MUSCLE. His paints were low on one side, and he saw that Kurt had a tattoo as well, and he spit his water across he room.
“Blaine, what's wrong?” Kurt said, spinning around quickly.
Blaine starred at Kurt, and then his eyes crept down Kurt's body slowly. All that Blaine could mouth was, “Woah.”
Kurt blushed, “I'll take that as a yes.”
Blaine couldn't make out what the tattoo said, But he for sure knew he saw a ‘T' at the top. Why would he get a ‘T' tattooed on his hip bone? Kurt moved behind the curtain slid his pants off, quickly throwing on his Z Zegna classic two-button suit in a deep navy color suit. Underneath he had his yellow buttoned up Polo, and a slender navy blue ties to pull everything together. He walked out from behind the curtain, giving Blaine a smile, and slipped on his shoes.
“I love you in that suit, “Blaine said, but then quickly corrected, “I mean... I love the suit. That is on you. The suit.”
Kurt smiled and opened the door, “Shall we?”
Blaine let out a breath, afraid he had said too much, “We shall.”
Kurt dialed James and put him on speaker phone, “James?”
“Yes, Mr. Hummel.” the British man said.
“James, I told you to call me Kurt.” Kurt laughed and looked at Blaine, who was covering his mouth.
“Right, sir. Hello Blaine.” James said, smiling on the other end of the phone.
Blaine looked at Kurt, and Kurt looked at Blaine with the same expression, “How did you know...”
James interrupted, “Sammy Boy.” Kurt looked at Blaine and raised his eyebrows, mouthing ‘Sammy Boy?' and Blaine hit him.
“This is weird.” They both said into the phone.
James laughed, “I'm outside the backstage door. Come on, you two.”
Kurt and Blaine looked at each other as Kurt hung up the phone, “Well,” Blaine said, “I guess we've been connected all of this time.”
Kurt smiled and thought about his tattoo, “I guess we have.”
The two men made their way to the back entrance, to see a limo waiting for them, and James standing outside of it, holding open the door. Blaine issued Kurt to go in first, and he did. Blaine soon followed and sat beside Kurt. They both looked forward and waited for James to get back in the car.
“It's really great seeing you again, Blaine.” Kurt said, finally breaking the silence.
Blaine ave Kurt the brightest smile he had ever seen, “I was thinking the exact same thing.”
James got in the driver's seat and took off towards Blaine's apartment. In the mean time, Kurt was updating Blaine on his life and family. Blaine listened as Kurt spoke about his dad living through a stroke, and Carol not killing Finn yet. Kurt spoke about getting into NYADA with Rachel Berry, who Blaine remembered kissing at a party. They laughed about that, and then Kurt told Blaine about his career starting up, and how he was picked on the spot to play Elder Price in The Book of Mormon. Blaine then updated Kurt on his life. He had graduated high school early and attended NYU. Then when he turned twenty one, he landed a spot as a writer for the New York Times, and was now about to be Vice President of the company.
“Blaine, that's amazing. You're so young to have accomplished all of this!” Kurt said, placing his hand on Blaine's shoulder.
“And so are you, Kurt! You're only two years older than me and you're the lead role in a Broadway play!” Blaine said, smiling at Kurt.
James commented, “Kiss already.”
Kurt and Blaine both looked at each other and laughed. Both thinking the same thing, “I wish.”
James finally reached Blaine's apartment complex and opened the door for him. Blaine slid out and looked down at Kurt, “Want to come in? I have wine.” Blaine gave Kurt that smile, and Kurt knew he couldn't refuse.
“I was contemplating it,” Kurt said, “but then you mentioned the wine soooo...”
They both laughed and Blaine held out his hand and helped Kurt out of the limo. Kurt looked up and saw how huge the building was. He couldn't believe Blaine had done this well. James asked Kurt when he should pick him up and Kurt thought about it.
“James, you can take the night off. I'll catch a cab home.” Kurt smiled and James tipped his hat, and got back in the limo, driving away.
“Ready to see the coolest apartment in all of New York City?” Blaine said, walking up the stairs of the building and turning around to face Kurt, who was still at the bottom.
“I'll be the judge of that, Anderson.” Kurt said with a smirk, and then climbed the stairs to accompany Blaine, and the made there way inside the lobby.
Kurt was already blown away just by the lobby, “Woah.” he said.
Blaine giggled, “Just wait, you haven't seen anything yet.”
They both made there way over to the elevator and climbed in. Blaine and Kurt were both silent, reminiscing on the past, and think about the future. They were both happy. Something neither of them had felt since the last time they spoke. The doors opened and Blaine and Kurt stepped out. Blaine scanned his ID and pressed his finger on the pad, unlocking the door. He pressed it open and Kurt topped in the door frame.
“Holy shit.”
