The next morning went wonderfully. I got Lizzie out of bed and we eat chocolate chip pancakes, we tried to wait for Noah but he woke up late and was rushing to get ready. It felt like the beginning of a really good day and I couldnt wait to spend it with my daughter.
I heard Noah running between the bathroom and the bedroom.
“I think dad is a little crazy today. Don't you think?” I asked Lizzie.
She smiled, “Yep.”
Noah ran into the kitchen. “Have you seen that sheet music?”
“Umm, you may need to be a bit more specific than that.” I answered.
“The ones I got for today's class.”
I shook my head. I saw Lizzie look down to the ground, so did Noah.
“Elizabeth, did you see dad's sheet music?” She shook her head fast. “Elizabeth Puckerman Anderson.”
She grabbed a drawing from the table of birds and trees and handed them to her dad. “I'm sorry.”
He sighed, “Oh my gawd.” He flipped over the paper. “Elizabeth, what did daddy and I say about drawing on these kinds of papers.”
She shrugged, “Don't.”
“Do you have time to grab it at lunch?” I asked.
Noah shook his head, “No, I have a staff meeting at lunch.”
“Well, we are heading to the mall soon, why don't we grab more and drop it off at the school?”
“That would be awesome.” He kissed me. Then went over to Lizzie. “Next time sweetheart. Please ask for drawing paper, okay?”
She nodded and he kissed her forehead. “I have to head out, I'll see you too at lunch. Love you both.” He said as he ran out the door.
I looked at Lizzie, “So?”
“I'm sorry.”
“OK, why don't we go get dressed so we can head to the mall?”
She smiled and nodded, “OK.” I lifted her off the chair and she ran to her room. I cleaned up the dishes and loaded the dishwasher and headed to the bedroom to change.
An hour later I had Lizzie in a cart and we were walking through the sheet music department at a store in the mall. She had her doll with her and was keeping herself entertained as we continued on with our shopping. I would occasionally see her look up and look behind me, stare for a few seconds and then go back to her doll. Something was always catching her eye, more times than none it was something shiny. Her fathers daughter alright. I picked up the sheet music that Noah needed and showed it to Lizzie.
“So, what are we not going to do with papers like these?”
“Draw on them.”
I smiled, “That's right.”
I saw her look behind me again, “Daddy, I think someone is spying on you?”
I looked behind me and didn't see anything then looked back to her. “What do you mean?”
“There's a guy that keeps hiding behind the shelf.” She pointed at the stand of old vinyls, I turned in that direction and that's when I saw someone. I couldn't tell who it was until he saw me looking and he came out from behind it. HOLY SHIT! It was Kurt! He was walking towards me, I think I started sweating and my mind was racing and my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I haven't seen him in years, and I was with Lizzie.
He came up to us, “Hey, sorry if I creeped you out. I wasnt sure it was really you.”
“Daddy, who is that?” She pointed at him.
I went to open my mouth but Kurt beat me to it. “Daddy?” He said shocked.
I swear it felt like full minutes before I answered. “Uh, yah.” I cleared my throat. “This is Lizzie. My daughter.”
Kurt's eyes went big as he looked from me to her and back again. “Oh,” He put out his hand to her. “I'm Kurt. Nice to meet you Lizzie.”
She politely took his hand like a queen would. My drama queen, and shook his hand. “Hi.”
He looked back at me. “You're a dad?”
I nodded, “For three whole years now.”
“Almost four.” Lizzie corrected.
I smiled at her, “Yes, almost four.”
Kurt stood there, still shocked. “Wow, umm. That's great.”
I nodded, he looked amazing. He always looked good but the years really agreed with him. “Um, we really have to go though.”
“Yah, my dad needs his papers, I drawn on the last ones.” She frowned.
I laughed, “Yes Lizzie. He does.”
“Her dad. Of course she would have two dads.” Kurt realized.
Oh shit. I nodded, “How long are you in town?” I asked before he asked who her dad was, I was not ready for that yet.
“Umm, for the next couple of months. There's a project opening soon that my manager thinks I'll be great for. So.”
I nodded, I never did find out if he graduated from NYADA or if he went to fashion school. “Well, um I can give you my number and we can grab coffee sometime and catch up.”
He smiled, “I'd love that. And I can give you mine if you want.” I nodded and passed him my phone, thankfully my screensaver was just of Lizzie and not the one of Noah and Lizzie at the park like I had had before. He handed me his phone and I put my number in. “I'm free tonight. If you are?”
“Umm, maybe after supper.” I saw Lizzie smile at that.
Kurt nodded, “Sure. I'll text you around 7?”
“Sounds great.” I looked at Lizzie. “Say goodbye Lizzie.”
“Nice to meet you.” She said.
Kurt smiled, “You too.”
I smiled and we walked off.
As we were walking to the register Lizzie asked, “Daddy, who was that?”
“An old friend from high school.”
She nodded then went back to her doll as I stood in line still reeling from the past few minutes. I was a little scared about what tonight would hold. The big question of course would be Lizzie's other dad. How and what was I going to say?
It had been a really long day, with the materials that I needed to grab and trying to make it to the school before lunch was over and then trying to get Lizzie down for her nap. I was beat. I sat on the couch in our quite condo, Lizzie sleeping and Noah wasnt home yet. I really didnt feel like composing today so I just sat, contemplating whether or not to text Kurt. I know I said I was going to and it did feel really nice to see him again, but it almost felt too nice. I love Noah, with my whole heart but Kurt's always been, Kurt. I knew nothing would really happen, I mean I don't even know if he's involved with anyone. It doesnt matter because I am with Noah, we have a beautiful baby girl and I couldnt be happier, seeing Kurt won't change that. I took my phone out and started my message.
Blaine: Hi Kurt.
I waited a few minutes for his reply. Oh man, I seem too eager, he said he'd text me at seven and here I am texting him at…I looked at the clock…2:30.
Bing.
Kurt: Hey. I was hoping to hear from you. :)
Blaine: I know its early but I just got Lizzie down for her nap.
Kurt: It's ok. Still so crazy thinking of you with a kid.
Blaine: Yah.
Kurt: Not that that's a bad thing. She's adorable. Looks just like you.
Did he just call me adorable? No, he said Lizzie.
Blaine: She's a sweetheart and super smart. Sometimes a little smart ass like her dad though lol
Oh shit. I shouldn't have said that. He might ask who he is.
Kurt: I might have to meet him someday soon then.
Little do you know.
Blaine: Yah, someday. So umm do you have a special someone?
Kurt: I did, we broke up two months ago.
Blaine: Sorry to hear that.
Kurt: It's ok, creative differences lol
Blaine: Umm, so what do you do lol did you finish NYADA or fashion school?
Kurt: NYADA. I'm acting, well trying to lol. My manager sent me out here for this play he heard is up and coming. Something that suits me perfect and it's being tested in LA then if it does well, goes to Broadway. I'm hoping to get in on the ground floor.
That sounds a lot like my play. It is being tested here and if the ratings are good enough there's promise to move it to Broadway. Oh shit. My play is pretty much our story and the Kyle part is him. I'm almost too scared to ask but I know I have to. That's when I hear the door open, Noah is home early. It'll have to wait until tonight.
Blaine: Sounds interesting but I have to go for now. Let me know what time you want to grab coffee.
Kurt: Will do. ;)
Kurt: I didn't mean that I meant :)
I smiled and put my phone on the coffee table and turned to see as Noah walked in.
“Hey, you're home early.”
“Yeah, early day out remember?”
“Right, sorry. It's been a long day.”
“Where's Lizzie?”
“Taking her nap.” He put down his books and through his jacket on the chair and sat down next to me.
“Sounds good to me.” He said and he put his head in my lap. I ran my fingers through his hair. I loved doing that. He had such nice hair now, not like that Mohawk he had in high school. He moaned. He liked it too.
“I love when you do that.”
I smiled down at him, “I know. So how did that class go?”
“Fantastic, I finally made some progress with that Mark kid. He's got a lot of potential.”
“That's great.”
“Yeah, and how was your day? Anything special happen?” He closed his eyes and snuggled into me.
I exhaled, “I don't know if it's special but I bumped into someone today.”
“Oh, who?” He said, still with his eyes closed.
“Kurt.” He opened them and stared at me.
“Hummel?”
I nodded, “Lizzie caught him spying on us.”
“Spying?” He asked confused.
I laughed, “He wasnt sure if it was me because I was with a kid so he was hiding I guess.”
“Oh, so what did you guys talk about?”
I looked at him, “I didn't mention you. At least not by name, yet.”
He scrunched his eyebrows, “Yet?”
“Well I said that Lizzie had another dad and that we were together but I never said your name and well we're meeting for coffee tonight. Is that ok?”
He sat up and turned to me, “Are you asking my permission?”
“Well, no but I want to make sure you're ok if I tell him about us.”
He went quite for a few minutes. “Well its Hummel right. He'll understand better than anyone else I'm guessing.”
“Did you want to be there?”
He shook his head, “No, it might be easier if I'm not. You can bring him by another night once he's settled though. It'll be nice having another person at that reunion that knows though.”
I nodded my head, “Ok.”
“What do you want for supper?”
I shrugged, “Honestly, I'm not in the mood for cooking. Wanna do take out tonight?”
“Sounds good to me.”
After we finished our Chinese and I got Lizzie all bathed at settled, we sat down to watch a movie as a family. It was a family night we liked to do at least twice a month. With our busy schedules it was nice to just sit down and relax. The movie was almost over and Lizzie was asleep on Noah's lap with her feet in mine, and that's when I heard my phone go off. Noah looked at it and I grabbed it. The time was 9:15. It was from Kurt.
Kurt: Hey, sorry I'm late. I got caught up on the phone. Rachel doesnt know how to shut up sometimes.
Wow, it's good that they are still friends.
Blaine: Oh same old same old. Nice to know somethings don't change.
Kurt: lol yah no doubt. I know it's a bit late for coffee but did you wanna grab a drink instead?
Blaine: Sure. Did you have a place in mind?
Kurt: I'm fairly new to this area but I've heard good things about ‘En Chante'. Ever been?
Yeah, I go with Noah sometimes, it's nice and intimate.
Blaine: Yes, it's nice there. Nice and quiet. A bit intimate tho.
Kurt: Oh, well we can go somewhere else then.
Blaine: No it's ok. It's only intimate if you make it that way. They have these ‘caves' I guess. It's pretty nice.
Kurt: Sounds good. Meet you there at 945?
Blaine: Sure. I'm only about twenty minutes from there anyway.
Kurt: Great. See you then.
I put my phone down on the side table.
“So, you still going tonight?”
I looked at him, “Yah, you're still OK with this right?”
He nodded, “I'm going to be honest though. I'm kinda jealous.”
I laughed quietly, “Why?”
He shrugged, “Blaine, its Kurt. I'm not stupid. I know how you were in high school. He was your first love.”
I leaned over to him without moving Lizzie and put my face close to his, “But you're my last.” Then I kissed him. “I love you, you don't need to worry about anything. I promise.”
He smiled, “Ok. I trust you.”
“Good, now I'm going to put this princess to bed and get changed.” I stood up and grabbed a still sleeping Lizzie in my arms.
“Where are you guys going anyway?”
“'En Chante'.” I said as I walked out of the living room and into the hallway. I heard him follow me but he lingered in the hallway as I put Lizzie to bed. When I walked out and headed to the bedroom he followed.
“'En Chante'?”
I turned to look at him, “Noah, please.” I took my shirt off and threw it in the hamper and headed to the closet.
“Please what? Blaine, don't you think that's a little romantic?”
“It's only romantic if you make it that way. Plus they have amazing mojitos.”
He sat on the bed and watched me change. “I just think it's a little inappropriate.”
I turned to look at him, “Excuse me?”
“Well he is an ex-lover after all.”
“I thought we just talked about this. He's my past.”
“At a romantic club.”
Oh my gawd, I can't believe he was going there. “Noah,” I bent down and grabbed his face, “I promise you, it's innocent.”
He looked down, I could tell he was upset but he had to trust me. “I'm going. I asked you to come, you didnt want to.”
“Fine. Go.”
“I won't be late.” I said as I walked out of the room. We've been together for five years now, if anyone should be scared of someone straying it should be me.
I left the condo and grabbed a taxi to the club. The whole way there I couldn't help but to think of how I left Noah. I mean, I know he needs to trust me but if it were Quinn or Shelby for that matter, I know I'd be a little worried too. Once the taxi pulled up to the club the only thing that was running through my head then was how the hell do I tell Kurt about us and how would he take it? I got out, paid the driver and waked into the club. That's when I saw him. His back was facing me but I couldnt forget that ass or that hair anywhere. He turned around and smiled. He looked even better from the front. He was wearing tight black slacks and a white shirt with a black vest and black army boots. Holy hell.
“Blaine.”
