Chapter 34: The Beginning of a Future
They didn't really know how it happened. They definitely did not plan to go straight to bed after getting home from the airport. More than that, they had absolutely no intention of ending up in bed completely disrobed. Nor did they plan leaving their clothing strewn all the way from the apartment door to Blaine’s bedroom.
But neither would say they weren’t ready to do all of those things. They were ready, and they were prepared. However, they didn’t fully realise how much they both craved this moment until they found themselves alone, separated from the rest of the world by a double bolt in the door, with several more hours before either of Blaine’s roommates were due to land in New York, coming back from their own Thanksgivings.
They took things slowly, cherishing every moment, every soft touch of the fingers and every brush of lips, tongues and skin on skin. Blaine was a little anxious at first, not having any first-hand experience when it came to sex; Liam was always the one getting laid, leaving his host only to pick up the pieces, without having any of the fun.
And until that one unexpectedly sunny New York afternoon, Blaine had wished he’d come back during the act rather than after one of those times. Now he knew it was better this way. To have Kurt in front of his eyes whenever he thinks of his first time was the best it could ever get.
The last slanting rays of sunshine coloured the light orange, basking the two of them, lying sweaty in the tangled sheets in a warm glow that suited perfectly the state of their minds. Blaine couldn’t take his eyes off of Kurt, smiling minutely without noticing it.
‘I hope that wasn’t disappointing,’ he said, breaking the contended silence. His tone was tinged with nervousness, but deep down he was sure he knew the answer already.
Kurt looked at him from under his sleepily drooping eyelids and gave him a little smirk.
‘What do you think?’ He shifted so that his eyes were level with Blaine’s. ‘First off, you have to remember I don’t really have that much experience. Secondly, this isn’t about disappointment or satisfaction, not really. Not to me. It’s about being with someone you love.’
‘I’m glad you think that,’ Blaine said quietly, his lips pulling up higher at the corners.
‘I couldn’t think any differently.’ Kurt slid his fingers down Blaine’s side to the place where the sheet wrapped around him, covering him from the waist to his knees.
They exchanged a quick glance, Blaine’s breath hitching. His heart was pounding rapidly and he shivered. Kurt smirked, this time in self-satisfaction; there were few things that made him feel as good about himself as having this kind of effect on Blaine. Seconds later, his boyfriend’s hand was on the small of his back, pulling him close. For a long couple of minutes they did nothing but stare with wonder at one another, speechless, fascinated with the view, and blissed out beyond description.
‘Sometimes I feel like I’m dreaming, and when I wake up, you won’t be there,’ Blaine whispered eventually, dropping his gaze to Kurt’s lips, half in embarrassment, half in lust.
‘I can assure you, this is very much real.’
‘I know. It’s just- so much better than what I’d ever imagined for myself. I thought I’d end up with a bunch of cats, watching Bravo for days on end and spending every night in a cold empty bed. Or in a bed full of cats, but without someone who would hold me.’ Blaine snorted at the cheesiness of his words, and snuck a glance at Kurt, whose expression was nothing like the one he’d anticipated.
Kurt was looking at him with eyes so full of love and sheer adoration; it took him aback, kicking his breath out of his lungs.
‘What?,’ Kurt asked. ‘You still don’t get that you’re not the only lucky one in this relationship, do you? And by the way, maybe we could get a cat someday. How about we adopt one when we get a place together?’
Blaine’s eyebrows shot upwards in surprise.
‘You want us to get a place together?’
With an indulgent smile, Kurt rolled his eyes.
‘You’re honestly asking me that question? While I’m in bed with you, with no intention or will to ever get out of it? Of course I want us to get a place together, silly. I want to wake up next to you for the rest of my life, I told you that. I’m not suggesting we start house hunting tomorrow, but in a little while, I definitely want to live with you.’
‘And no roommates?,’ Blaine asked, lightheaded from happiness, with a mischievous smile beginning to tug at his lips.
‘Absolutely none.’

Early evening found them settled at the tall counter in the kitchen with coffee in their hands and their knees touching. Tiny smiles danced around their lips at all times, making up most of their conversation. That was also what Sebastian saw when he entered the apartment around seven thirty.
‘Ooh, hello, lovebirds,’ he said mockingly from the kitchen door. His eyes turned into slits as he examined them from under his squinted lids.
‘How was Florida?,’ Blaine asked casually between sips of coffee and adoring stares at Kurt.
‘Same old, same old.’ Sebastian looked from one of them to the other. ‘But I’m sensing things are a little different here.’ He quirked an eyebrow and bit his lip, trying to stop himself from laughing. ‘Let me guess, if I go to your room right now, I’m going to find the bed in a complete mess, soiled with unmentionable substances.’
Blaine cheeks went scarlet, and Kurt fixed his eyes on his coffee mug, his lips pursed.
‘What?,’ Blaine choked out finally.
‘That’s what I thought,’ Seb laughed. ‘Congrats, guys. I started to think you’d get purity rings or something. Anyway, you can go play if you want to, I’ve got earplugs.’ With a cheeky grin he turned around to leave.
‘Hey, Seb?,’ Kurt said after him.
‘Hm?’
‘Good you’ve got the earplugs. They may come in handy.’
Sebastian rolled his eyes with a chuckle. ‘Oh, you innocent kids. I’m glad you’re finally getting naughty. Hopefully you’ll stop being so uptight all the time.’
A moment later the door to his room shut with a small bang, leaving the other two in silence filled with some more sips of coffee, though now they kept their eyes down. Having another person bustle into their happy little bubble made them a bit more self-conscious about the events of the afternoon.
‘D’you mean it? About the earplugs?,’ Blaine mumbled after a while, stealing a glance at Kurt from the corner of his eye.
‘Um, yeah, I guess I did.’ Kurt traced his finger around the brim of his mug, apparently fascinated by the thing. ‘If you don’t have anything against that, at least.’
Blaine put his mug down on the counter with a noise, and reached to take Kurt’s out of his hands, but stopped halfway. Incredulous, Kurt raised his eyebrows.
‘Seriously? I’m beginning to think you and Liam have much more in common than just your looks,’ he said, holding back a smirk and settling his mug safely on the counter.
Blaine got up, tugging Kurt to a standing position and wrapping his arms around his waist.
‘Maybe, but at least I have the superior taste in men,’ he whispered seductively into Kurt’s ear.
The hot breath tickled against his skin and sent shivers down his back. Without another word, he let his boyfriend lead him back down the hallway to his bedroom.
