‘’Hi Kurt,’’ Blaine said cheerfully, but when Kurt didn’t answer he turned to face him, and was met by and evil look.
‘’wha..?’’ Blaine said but Kurt rose, and grabbed Blaine by the arm, and dragged him out of the room. ‘’Where are we going?’’ he wanted to sound mad, but ended up sounding scared.
‘’I am going to hear you sing,’’ Kurt said emphatically and opened a door, only to lead them down another hallway.
‘’No!’’ Blaine said a little helpless.
Kurt stopped and turned to him ‘’why not?’’
‘’Because I only told you that I sang, not that I sang well.’’ Blaine said looking down. Kurt reached hand to tilt Blaine’s head back up, ‘’please sing with me,’’ he begged, and wow, that really wasn’t fair. Blaine felt his heart melt as he looked at Kurt and felt himself give in.
‘’fine, but promise me that you won’t laugh!’’
Kurt smiled an adorable smile at him, and took his hand to drag him through another door, and they both landed on an enormous scene.
Blaine knew he should feel taken back by all the wonders of the place, but he couldn’t stop thinking about Kurt’s very soft hand that still held his. Kurt let go of him, looking a little apologizing, and Blaine wanted to say that it was okay, more than okay to be precise, but then the music started playing, Kurt started singing, and Blaine was in another world.
Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you
Blaine was a little surprised with the song choice, a love song? Really? And then remembered that he had to sing too, he’d promised.
Cause I've had the time of my life
and I owe it all to you
Kurt took his hands again and moved him to the centre of the stage, and put a hand on his shoulder, held the other hand out, and gestured for Blaine to hold his waist. Blaine hesitantly did so, and Kurt started moving. He could really dance and Blaine must have looked like a complete idiot next to him.
I've been waiting for so long
Now I've finally found someone
To stand by me
We saw the writing on the wall
As we felt this magical fantasy
Blaine lifted a hand, growing in confidence, and made Kurt spin around several times, without getting the tiniest bit disorientated.
Now with passion in our eyes
There's no way we could disguise it secretly
So we take each other's hand
Cause we seem to understand the urgency
just remember
You're the one thing
I can't get enough of
So I'll tell you something
This could be love because
I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
Just remember
You're the one thing
I can't get enough of
So I'll tell you something
This could be love because
They were dancing even closer now, and Blaine could feel Kurt’s breath on his face as he sang, and it made him kind of dizzy.
I had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I've found the truth
and I owe it all to you
Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Never Felt this way
Kurt moved closer still, his arms around Blaine’s neck.
Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you
I had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I've found the truth
and I owe it all to you
The last part was only whispers, and Blaine’s eyelids fluttered shut, Kurt tilted his head slightly.
‘’You two better close up soon,’’ sounded a voice behind them. Blaine spun around, and saw Jessie standing by the door they’d come from.
‘’S...Sure,’’ Blaine said. Jessie then went out, and Blaine turned around, almost afraid of what he’d see. Kurt had moved a couple of steps away, had he made it up in his head? Had Kurt been about to kiss him? Whoa! kiss him?!
‘’You’re a very good singer Blaine,’’ Kurt then said, and started moving towards the door ‘’we should get home, it’s late.’’
‘’Wait,’’ Blaine said, ‘’Kurt are… are we friends?’’ he knew it sounded stupid, but he had to ask. ‘’I don’t want to be just ‘another fan’ you know’’
‘’well, I’m famous Blaine, do you want to be my friend?’’
Blaine stepped a little closer ‘’you think that because you’re a star, I wouldn’t want to be your friend?’’
‘’well, yes?’’
‘’You’re crazy,’’ Blaine whispered, taking Kurt’s hand again. They went down the hallways again in silence till they reached Kurt’s room.
‘’Blaine I won’t be here in some time, I’m going on some tour thing with the others for the next two weeks, I would have told you earlier, but it was first official today,’’ Kurt said.
Blaine blinked, ‘’oh, and you… you don’t need a hairdresser on that tour?’’
‘’No, Kurt said, Paris has hairdressers of their own, so we don’t bother. But this is great you see, you get 2 weeks of vacation.’’
Blaine nodded, sure great. Great that Kurt was going to Paris, great that he’d probably meat some charming Parisian guy who was a lot handsomer, and nonetheless taller, than Blaine. He looked at his feet, why couldn’t Kurt just feel as amazed with Blaine as Blaine did with him?
‘’It’s only two weeks Blaine, surely you aren’t going to miss me that much,’’ Kurt laughed ‘’here I’ll make you a deal, I’ll give you the number for my private cell, but don’t give it to anyone.’’ He said firmly. He reached out his hand, and Blaine handed him his phone. Kurt quickly dialed in his number and reached the phone back. Their hands touched lightly, and Kurt smiled ‘’I hope you’ll call Blaine, it’s a big hotel room, it get’s kind of lonely sometimes,’’ He placed a quick kiss on Blaine’s cheek, and then he grabbed his jacket and was out the door. Blaine’s cheek burned and he felt both very happy and completely empty at the same time.
‘’He did what!?’’ Mercedes said a little too loud, turning several heads in the small caf.
Blaine grinned ‘’He dragged me all the way to the scene, started the music, and we just started singing, and then..’’
‘’Then what? What!?’’
‘’Then he grabbed my hand, and we started dancing, just like in a Disney movie, it was incredible!’’
Mercedes eyes looked like they were about to roll out her head, ‘’you danced! You? You danced with Kurt Hummel?!’’ ohmygod Blaine, is something going to happen?’’
Blaine’s smile fated ‘’I don’t think so, he’s going to Paris for the next couple of weeks, on a tour.’’
‘’So?’’ Mercedes asked, looking confused.
‘’So? Mercedes can’t you see how horrible this is, hoes going to be surrounded by good looking Parisian men for two weeks! How can he not fall for one of them?’’
Mercedes shook her head, but couldn’t help but smile ‘‘Blaine breathe, if he likes you he’ll come back for you, if he don’t you’ll soon find someone else, I promise, besides there’s more to this isn’t there?’’
‘’Well,’’ Blaine said, looking down his coffee mug ‘’He gave me his number… to his private phone.’’
‘’What?!’’ Mercedes yelled, and the crowd turned again, looking rather annoyed with them.
Blaine was grinning again, blushing a little ‘’now, the only thing I can do is wait… urgh what should I do Mercedes, I can’t wait two weeks! And he told me that he hoped that I would call, but today is too soon, and tomorrow is probably too, and then thereafter it’s probably too late, and I just don’t know what to do!’’
‘’okay calm down,’’ Mercedes said lifting her hands, ‘’you’ll wait, like four days, then you’ll call him, and If he asks you too, you’ll maybe call him again within the two weeks. You got to play hard to get Blaine, Kurt is the type who is used to get what he wants, don’t let him get to you that easily.’’
Easy for her to say Blaine thought, she isn’t the one who have to be around him all the time. ‘’Okay, thanks ‘Cedes,’’ he said smiling, what should he do without her.
The four days were extremely slow and uneventful. The first of December came around, which just reminded Blaine that he didn’t want to go home for Christmas, and that Kurt had once said that he wasn’t a Christian, which just brought his thoughts back to Kurt and the phone call, which reminded him that he was really nervous about it. But He’d decided he’d do it tonight, not too late, but not too early either, damn, this was really complicated. It didn’t help that he came across a huge poster of Kurt… twice. After that he just went directly home and waited till he thought it was late enough to call and found his phone. He sat down on the sofa, sighed shakily, and dialed the number. It seemed to ring forever, but then some scrambling and Kurt’s voice went through ‘’Bonjour,’’ He said, Blaine could hear the smile in his voice.
‘’Uh Hi Kurt, it’s Blaine, are you doing anything right now? I can call back later if you are.’’ Blaine swore inside, did he always sound this insecure?
‘’No, I’m not doing anything, just hanging out in a hotel room, glad you called what’s up?’’
Blaine smiled, ‘’not much, just, enjoying New York getting ready for Christmas, what’s Paris like?’’
‘it’s quieter than at home, but I like it here, and I love speaking French so that’s a plus. I miss New York already though, there’s nothing like it.’’
They kept on talking for an hour, until Kurt had to get down for dinner ‘’Have to run Blaine, but I was thinking, maybe you could call same time tomorrow? If you have the time of course.’’
‘’I will,’’ Blaine answered, a little too quickly.
Kurt laughed a little‘’Good, I miss you,’’
‘’Miss you too,’’ Blaine said, and then hung up, feeling a little dizzy. Kurt missed him? That had to mean something right, or maybe he just missed him as a friend? Blaine lay awake thinking about it till, eventually, he fell asleep on the couch.
‘’Blaine!’’
Blaine woke to the sound of Wes yelling him in the face, and he jumped and hit the floor. ‘’ouch! What have I done to you!?’’ he mumbled and rubbed his back.
‘’I thought we had a no-sleeping-on-the-couch policy in this house.’’ Wes said, looking down a Blaine, crossing his arms.
‘’Blaine sighed, this is not a house it’s a tiny apartment, and I fell asleep sorry.’’
‘’datsokay,’’ Wes mumbled, chewing on some bread, he swallowed ‘’ now that you’re awake, I have something to talk to you bout.’’ He said, suddenly serious.
‘’Yeah?’’ Blaine said slowly getting to his feet.
Wes sank again, ‘’I was thinking about moving out, and moving in. with Mercedes,’’ he talked very slowly, making sure that Blaine understood in his groggy state.
It took a second for Blaine to understand what Wes meant ‘’oh,’’ he then said, trying not to look too disappointed, ‘’I understand, I mean, you have been dating for a while now, why not move in together too?’’
Wes smiled ‘’that’s exactly what I thought too, and I have already talked to Mercedes about it, and she thinks it’s a brilliant idea. I’m glad you’re taking it so well Blaine, you really are my best friend, and we’ll still see each other all the time.’’
Blaine didn’t like the idea of living alone at all, but he saw how happy Wes was, and what he would have wanted f it was himself in Wes’ situation.
‘’Sure,’’ Blaine said, a tight smile on his lips, why was everybody leaving all the time?
The next week and a half, Blaine spent either speaking to Kurt on the phone, or looking forwards to speaking to Kurt on the phone. He know how pathetic it was, but he basically had nothing else to do. He went for long walks, bought Christmas presents for his family, not his father though; they never got each other anything. He also helped Wes with moving out, he didn’t own much, both the couch and TV was Blaine’s luckily.
When the two weeks were almost over, Blaine asked himself a tricky question: was he going to get Kurt something for Christmas? They were friends after all, no matter how much Blaine wished they were more, and if he were to get him anything, what should it be? God, he must have everything he wanted already, what do you get a guy who has everything? He then decided not to get him anything, simply because he was positive that Kurt wouldn’t get him anything, and then he would just seem like a needy fan… again.
When the 13th of December came around, Blaine went to work with his jacket closed tightly around him. He didn’t look forwards to styling Rachel’s hair, not that he didn’t love his job, but the fact that Kurt would be in the room just across the hall made him anxious, especially because he wouldn’t get to see him tonight, and Rachel’s demands and near constant angry talking seemed like too much today.
He went in his usual back door, and down the hallways, he was in a hurry, he knew that Rachel didn’t like to be kept waiting.
He turned a corner and felt like he hit a wall; he stumbled backwards, and already started to apologize to the person, until he realized who it was. Kurt.
‘’Ow! Oh, hi Blaine!’’ Kurt quickly took a step forwards, threw his arms around Blaine’s neck and hugged him tightly. Blaine hugged back, surprised. They had talked almost every night when Kurt was in Paris, but he wasn’t sure how close they were, well close enough for hugging, that was for sure. They broke apart, and Kurt grinned widely, ‘’It’s so nice to see you again!’’
Blaine smiled at the eager Kurt, he’d almost forgotten how much he’d missed him, and wow he really smelled even more amazing than he remembered. ‘’so I won’t ask you what you’ve been doing, cause I already know that, but instead I’ll give you your Christmas present early,’’ He then started dragging Blaine down the hallway, but Blaine froze. ’’y…you bought me a present? But…I didn’t get you anything, I mean, I thought about it but then I thought that you already have everything, and nothing I can afford would be good enough and maybe…’’
‘’Blaine, it’s okay, you’re right I don’t need anything, you don’t have to give me anything,’’ Kurt said, taking Blaine’s hand, continuing pulling him down the hall way and into his room.
Kurt fumbled in his expensive looking bag, before finally holding up a neat packet. Blaine had no idea what it could be. He carefully took the gift, he looked up at Kurt, with what he hoped was an apologizing expression.
‘’Well open it!’’ Kurt demanded, and Blaine did so. It contained a box and Blaine lifted the lid and his eyes widened. Inside was a deep red scarf with Blaine’s name embroidered in twisted gold letters.
‘’You always wear that same old scarf, and honestly, it doesn’t look very warm or very fashionable. This one’s cashmere, so I assure you It’ll keep you warm’’ Kurt said.
Blaine didn’t was speechless ‘’Kurt I… this is too much.’’
‘’No it isn’t,’’ Kurt protested, ‘’I did it for me to, I’m the one who have to look at you every day,’’
Blaine smiled and looked down at his present.
‘’Here let me help you,’’ Kurt said picking up the distinguished looking scarf, and placed it around Blaine’s neck, twisting it around his throat a couple of times, his hands brushing over Blaine’s jaw. He then stood back ‘’don’t you look handsome,’’ he said teasingly. Blaine blushed, looking down again, as Kurt stepped a bit closer ‘’I can think of one thing you can give me though,’’ he almost whispered, leaning closer. Blaine’s heart started beating like crazy, but then an angry voice sounded down the hallway outside. ‘’Kurt!’’ Jessie yelled furiously.
Kurt growled and leaned back, storming out the door. ‘’What Jessie!? I told you to leave me alone!’’
Jessie’s entered the room, face crumbled into an ice cold grimace, ‘’It’s business, Hummel,’’ He spat out Kurt’s name like it was garbage, and grabbed his arm, dragging him down the hallway, ‘’Stop! You’re hurting me!’’
Blaine felt completely confused, he ran after them without knowing what the hell was going on. ‘’what are you doing!?’’ he yelled, grabbing Jessie’s arm, forcing him to let go of Kurt.
‘’Don’t Blaine,’’ Kurt said.
Jessie spun around, looking absolutely terrifying, ‘’and who do you think you are again? shagging around with our greatest star? You’re a hairdresser for fucks sake, from Ohio!’’
Blaine blushed deep crimson looking at Kurt ‘’I’ll explain later,’’ He just said to Blaine, who was seriously lost. What had happened between Jessie and Kurt? They were okay friends before they left, and now they were at each other’s throats?
Jessie sighed ‘‘I need to talk to Hummel… alone,’’ They went further down the hallway, rounded the corner, and out of Blaine’s sight.
Blaine decided to stay till tonight’s performance was over, and waited in Kurt’s room, for 3 hours.
He spent most of the time cracking his head over the scene he’d overlooked in the hallway, and some time playing angry birds on his phone, but couldn’t quite concentrate. Then he looked over some of Kurt’s costumes, they were all very pretty, hanging there on the stand, but he’d love to see them on Kurt instead.
Then he thought about what had been about to happen before Jessie had brutally interrupted them, had Kurt been about to kiss him? Again? Or was he imagining things because he really didn’t want to get his hopes up and then hit the ground hard when Kurt rejected him.
It was getting late, and still no sign of Kurt, Blaine was getting anxious, the performance ended half an hour ago.
Blaine was about to go find him, when he heard fast footsteps from the other side of the door. It flew open, and Kurt stepped in not seeing Blaine in the large chair in the corner. Blaine couldn’t quite figure out his, expression, until he raised a hand to his face, and a broken sob escaped him. Blaine flew to his feet and Kurt shrieked and stumbled a couple of feet back, then he realized who it was, and flew into Blaine’s arms crying for real now. He was getting make-up all over Blaine’s jacket but Blaine didn’t care, because something had really upset Kurt, and in that moment he decided that he’d never see Kurt like this again, he wouldn’t allow it.
Kurt collected himself enough to stand alone, and looked up at Blaine, eyes red. ‘’I’m so sorry you had to see that, I…I didn’t know you’d be here,’’ he said, sounding sincerely sorry.
‘’No, it’s okay,’’ Blaine whispered, calming him down. Kurt stood shakily, leaning heavily on Blaine, who stroked his back without really thinking about it. Then he got an idea’ it was silly really, Kurt was a celebrity, but Blaine felt like he needed to ask, as a friend of course. ‘’Um, Kurt, if you don’t want to be alone right now, you could come home with me. I’d make you a cup of tea and we could talk about this?’’
Kurt smiled, ‘’I’d love too,’’ he said but then looked down ‘’but I don’t think my bodyguard will approve, he’s supposed to drive me home now, he’s waiting actually…’’ he hesitated ‘’but maybe we can just leave a note? Tell him that I’m at your place, and that he can pick me up later?’’ Kurt grinned at the idea, Blaine didn’t fully understand the excitement, but someone like Kurt was in a constant schedule, this kind of freedom couldn’t happen very often for him.
Blaine turned his back and wrote the note, while Kurt changed (making Blaine feel more than a little awkward) Then he felt a set of arms surround him from behind, ‘’Run away with me Blaine Anderson,’’ Kurt teased, and Blaine happily did so.
The note told Puck where they had went ad where to pick Kurt up, then they took a cap back to Blaine’s place. Kurt stepped in, clearly amazed, giving Blaine a hard time seeing why. All Wes’ stuff was out, so the place was kind of empty and of course small. Blaine was happy he’d cleaned very thing up the day before, otherwise it would have been both small and messy.
‘’This is charming,’’ Kurt said, without sounding even the tiniest bit like a snobbish superstar. Blaine breathed a sigh of relief, and guided Kurt over in the small, yet cozy, couch while he went out in the kitchen to make them tea. Blaine was relieved that he’d stopped crying, but he hadn’t forgotten, of course, why Kurt was here in the first place you’re just going to talk, you can do this He thought, and went back into the living room, finding Kurt sitting with something in his hands. Oh no.
‘’uh, you shouldn’t look at that,’’ Blaine said, taking the picture and placing it back on the table.
‘’Why? It’s cute,’’ Kurt said smiling a little, ‘’it’s your family?’’
Blaine nodded, thinking back at the day the photo had been taken, it had been a late summer evening, Blaine were fourteen, and his sisters and mother had wanted to get a picture, but his father had just mumbled something and went inside.
‘’Blaine?’’ Kurt’s voice sounded concerned.
‘’Oh… yeah, sorry I kinda spaced out there. Now, are you going to tell me what went wrong tonight?’’
Kurt stiffed, looking uncomfortable with the topic, ‘’well, it didn’t start today,’’ Kurt said hesitantly ‘’It began in Paris. I did have my suspicions but I never thought he’d act so drastically.’’
‘’What do you mean? Who?’’ Blaine asked, reaching down to hold Kurt’s hand.
‘’It’s Jessie,’’ Kurt said, tears in his voice ‘’He hit on me in Paris or Kissed me actually. I knew he liked me a little because he was always flirty around me, but I didn’t know he’d force me into anything. I then politely told him that I didn’t like him, that there was someone else.’’ Blaine felt his heart freeze cold, someone else? Oh god, he had imagined it all Kurt had a boyfriend…
‘’That’s why he told me to stop ‘shagging around’ with you, he was dead jealous.’’
Okay now Blaine was blank ‘’ I don’t understand?’’ then something clicked inside his mind ‘’oh.’’
‘’I’m in love with you Blaine,’’ Kurt whispered. ‘’very much’’
Blaine couldn’t believe and just stared at him ‘’but I’m a hairdresser From Ohio! and…and you’re Kurt Hummel’’
‘’exactly,’’ Kurt said ‘’I’m just Kurt Hummel, nothing fancy.’’ He paused, voice falling again ‘’please say you are in love with me too Blaine, I can’t bear it if you’re not.’’ His voice sounded so pleading that it made Blaine want to cry, simply because he’d never been happier. ‘’I am,’’ he said ‘’I really, really am’’
Kurt let out a quick relieved sigh, before smiling widely and covered his head in Blaine’s shoulder, laughing happily. Blaine kissed his hair, he couldn’t believe how lucky he was. But then he remembered how he’d waited earlier, and had to ask; ‘’but Kurt, what happened tonight, you were half an hour late?’’
Kurt’s smile faded ‘’I ran into Jessie,’’ he said, ‘’first, when you saw him drag off with me, he just wanted to talk business, but this time he asked me a lot of private questions, about us and what we did when we’re together.’’ Kurt Blushed a little ‘’and when I said it was none of his business, which just made things worse.’’ Kurt sighed.
Jessie had seemed like an okay guy to Blaine, but surely he was the needy and jealous type. Blaine held Kurt closer into him, and smiled a little ‘’we’ll deal with him.’’
He could feel Kurt smile against his shoulder, they lay like that for a while until Kurt sat up, looking at Blaine ‘’I was thinking, maybe I could stay here for the night, it’s already late. I mean I don’t want anything to happen, not that I don’t want you, you’re very…’’
Blaine enjoyed seeing Kurt like this. On camera he always looked so secure, but now his cheeks colored and he looked down. Blaine lifted his head with his hand ‘’you can stay as long as you want, and no, nothing is going to happen that you don’t want to happen.’’
Kurt sighed again, snuggling closer yet, their faces very close now. Kurt turned his head a little, looking up at Blaine, and then leaned a little closer. Blaine was extremely grateful that there was no Jessie to interrupt them this time as he leaned down and felt Kurt’s soft lips brush against his own. Wow, this felt amazing, they were so close, and it was more than Blaine had ever dreamt of. Kurt tilted his head, deepening the Kiss. Blaine heard himself moan quietly against him, as he lifted a hand to hold it against Kurt’s cheek, who entwined his own in Blaine’s curls, The kiss lasted for what only seemed like seconds, till Kurt pulled back, looking into Blaine’s eyes, ‘’wow.’’
Blaine breathed heavily and looked down at him ‘’you’re amazing,’’ he then said, placing a second kiss on Kurt’s lips.
When Blaine woke the next morning, it all seemed too good to be true. Last night, Kurt had insisted on taking the couch, Blaine had protested because of the luxury he must be used to, but Kurt had literally told him to shut up and throw him a blanket, and Blaine didn’t want to argue with him over it, so he’d just went to sleep in his own bed, but couldn’t fall asleep. Around two o’ clock he’d heard footsteps across the living room, and the door to his room cracked open.
‘’Blaine?’’ Kurt had whispered, and Blaine had quickly sat up.
‘’yeah, is there something wrong? It’s the couch right?’’ Blaine had said.
Kurt had smiled at that, and then nodded, looking completely stunning in the dim light. He’d then crept under Blaine’s sheets and snuggled close to him.
Now Blaine woke arms around Kurt, who was breathing him softly in the face. Blaine lifted his hand and drove it down Kurt’s cheekbone to his jaw. He moved slightly, waking slowly and his eyelids fluttered open, and he smiled up at Blaine and chuckled.
‘’What?’’ Blaine asked.
‘’mm-nothing, just happy… and warm,’’ Kurt responded. He leaned up and captured Blaine’s lips in a kiss, just as a car honked down in the street. Kurt jumped, he’d totally forgotten about his chauffeur coming to pick him up. ‘’shit,’’ he muttered and pushed the sheets aside and stood. He turned around to look down at Blaine, ‘’I really don’t want to go to work today,’’ he whimpered sounding like a four year old.
Blaine laughed, and rose to his knees, grabbed Kurt’s shirt and dragged him in for a kiss, ‘’see you soon?’’ he asked against Kurt’s lips.
Kurt smiled ‘’definitely.’’
He suddenly pulled away ‘’oh, I almost forgot! You’re my hairdresser now, I swapped hairdresser with Rachel, I had to fall on my knees to make her let go of you, but she did!’’
Blaine looked stunned at him ‘’really?’’
‘’Yes,’’
‘’that’s great Kurt!” Blaine said, both glad that he’d no longer get to listen to Rachel’s babbling, but of course also because he’d get to style Kurt’s hair every day.
Kurt chuckled, planting yet another sweet kiss on Blaine’s lip, and Blaine felt like he was the luckiest man in New York.
