So, its oneshot(ish) time again! I just finished my latest chapter of A New Direction and I need to clear my head a bit before I delve into the next chapter. The timeline is a little AU in this fic. Kurt met Blaine before Sam moved to town and they're relationship is at the point it was around Regionals, just so y'all know.

I would just like to make it perfectly clear that I do not hate Sam in any way, shape, or form. This idea just came to me and he seemed like the most likely candidate for it, since he was new in town and no one knew anything about him or his sexuality.

I ship Kurt!happiness, so this is just a variation on a theme. I hope you enjoy it! ^_^

Disclaimer: I don't own Glee and it breaks my heart.

WARNINGS: Language, violence, homophobia, the works.

Finn wasn't a smart guy but he knew there was something wrong with his brother.

He'd come home from his date wet, dirty, his clothes wrinkled, and crying. Burt and Carole we're away for a long weekend, in Columbus for a mini honeymoon, so it was just him and Kurt and nudie movies on Cinemax when the slender teen was asleep in his basement.

Kurt was supposed to be on a date with that blond guy with the big lips so Finn had set up camp in the living room, a box of tissues and lotion by his side.

He was focused on the lovely ladies of Bikini Dream when Kurt burst through the front door and charged through the darkened living room, his appearance a more efficient boner killer than any thoughts of the mail had ever been.

From the locked basement he could hear Kurt's sobs and some pronounced bangs. Finn got dressed quick as a wink and slapped on the hall light.

"Kurt!" he called. "Kurt! Are you okay? What's wrong?"

"Go away!" he shrieked.

"Do—do you need me to call Burt?" he asked shakily.

"No," Kurt moaned.

Finn looked around and ran his fingers through his hair, making it stick up in sweaty peaks. What in the world was going on? He was equipped to handle this! Breakdowns were more Rachel's thing and he had a feeling Kurt would not be happy if he called her.

Suddenly the wailing stopped and the lanky teen pressed his ear to the door, hearing only silence. He raised his hand and knocked tentatively. "Are you—did you get hurt?"

There was a loud crash and a muffled sob before he could hear a thump near the stairs. "Just go Finn," he pleaded. "Please, just leave me alone."

"I don't think—"

"Just GO!"

Finn jumped away from the door as if he'd been pushed. This…this wasn't good. He didn't do well with emotions. When girls cried he felt like Superman around Kryptonite.

He reluctantly walked from the hall and into the living room, pacing back and forth, his hands clenching and unclenching at his side. One of the girls on TV gave an exaggerated moan and Finn just ripped the plug from the wall with a frustrated growl.

He walked into the kitchen and threw himself into a chair, banging his fist on the table harshly. He wasn't good at this! He hung his head in his hand, legs twitching restlessly.

Over his quickening breath he could hear Kurt's exhausted sobs and sniffles. Finn's brow crinkled when he heard the beep of an iPhone coming from the opposite direction of his brother's room. A few moments later it beeped again, a reminder.

He pushed away from the table and walked into the hall, listening for the sound. Again, but this time more muffled. He went toward the door and heard the loudest beep yet.

He slowly pushed open the door and looked around. He spotted Kurt's phone, screen down, in the front yard. He stepped out into the drizzling rain and retrieved the phone.

He scrambled back onto the covered porch and worried his lip nervously. Should he look? What if it had something to do with why Kurt was so upset? What if it didn't and he upset his brother even more.

He squeezed his eyes shut and clenched his teeth together. He snapped his eyes open and shook the tension out of his body, resolved.

I'll toss the phone into the air and if I catch it screen up, then I look. Eeny meeny miny moe was for kids, this was way better.

The tall boy tossed the phone in the air and a wave of oh Grilled Cheesus, what if I don't catch it! went through him. Thankfully, his fear was unfounded as he caught the phone with ease.

Screen side up.

Shit.

He exhaled explosively and opened the text. It was from Sam.

Don't pretend like you didn't see that coming

What the fuck did that mean? Didn't see what coming?

Finn knew he was willfully ignorant when it came to what two dudes do together, and not just in a sex way, but what the hell could Kurt have not seen coming?

He closed the message and it brought him to the conversations screen. He stared at the names blankly. What could he do?

As he contemplated all his (limited) options, the phone chirped. Like, chirped. As in, a bird noise. Why would Kurt set someone's ringtone as a bird call?

Wait, wasn't one of his friends, like, a Canary, or something. That other glee club, with the bird name. He unlocked the screen and figured he may as well look at that text too. He was already screwed.

It was from the bird guy, Blaine.

hey :)

Hey! He could call Blaine! He was gay too, maybe he would know what to do.

He scrolled through Kurt's contacts and called Blaine, pacing across the porch while the rain soaked his feet.

He answered on the second ring, sounding breathless, like he ran to the phone.

"Kurt! Hey! How was your date?"

Finn cleared his throat. "Um, no."

There was a heavy pause on the other side of the line. "No? Then, who is this?"

"Uh, this is Finn, Kurt's brother," he responded stiffly.

"Finn?" Blaine asked, clearly confused. "What—what's going on? Is everything alright?"

The tall teen collapsed onto the new porch swing. "I—I don't know. I don't think so. Something's wrong."

"What do you mean, 'something's wrong'? Is Kurt okay?"

The other teen sounded upset and Finn shook himself. Get it together! He mentally chided himself. Now you're making a bigger mess a'things.

"Kurt came home crying and locked himself in his room. I didn't get a good look at him, but he looked… not right. There's a lot of noise coming from down there and he forgot his phone on the lawn. I was… kinda hoping you had some idea what's going on. Or maybe what to do…"

He heard Blaine exhaled roughly on the other end of the line. "I—I'll be right there."

And with that, he hung up the phone. Finn leaned his head back in the chair and took a few calming breaths, listening to the rain patter against the roof.

He pushed up from the chair and headed back inside, putting Kurt's phone on the table. He crept into the hall and pressed his ear against his brother's door once more.

He could still here the tired cries from Kurt and Finn was surprised to feel tears prick his own eyes. Whatever this Sam kid did, he was going to regret it. Even still, the tall teen hoped that it all boiled down to some kind of accident or misunderstanding.

Glee club was so drama-tastic, he didn't know if he could handle more.

He slowly lowered himself to the floor and listened to the sounds of Kurt's misery. He but his lip and decided to chance one more knock.

He rapped lightly against the door and the weeping stopped. "What is it, Finn?" Kurt asked thickly.

"Just… checkin' on you. Do you need anything? Glass of milk?"

Kurt was always bringing him milk, he figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

"No. No, thanks. I'm good. "

"'Kay," Finn replied, not believing him for a second.

The crying started again and the gangly teen buried his head between his knees. He felt like the worst brother ever and he didn't even know why.

He looked up as he heard a car pulling into the driveway. Finn stood up and swiftly made his way to the door.

He was relieved to see Kurt's dark haired friend step out of his black sedan and trot up to the door. He stopped short of entering and looked up into Finn's face.

"Where is he? Has he said anything?"

Finn shook his head 'no'. "He's still in his room."

Blaine nodded as he entered and made his way straight to Kurt's door. He knocked firmly and waited for the upset boy to respond.

"Finn, I told you, I'm fine! I just want to be left alone!"

"It's not Finn," Blaine replied.

There was a pregnant pause before another muffled bang and then a hesitant "Blaine?"

"Uh-huh," the shorter teen replied.

"How—what are you doing here?" Kurt barked.

"Don't try that with me, Kurt Hummel," Blaine said firmly. "You may be able to scare other people off, but I know better. Now, are you going to let me in or and I going to have to find some kind of power tool to take this door of its hinges. I've done it before. Ask David."

Finn was impressed. He'd never have the nerve to talk to Kurt that way. For someone so tiny and… fashiony, he sure was scary.

There were some more muffled bangs before Kurt spoke again, voice sounding much closer.

"Why are you here?" he asked, resigned.

"Finn called me; he was worried and I am too. You left your phone outside. In the rain."

And yeah, that was totally a big deal.

There was a rustle behind the door and both teens stood up, prepared for the worst. The lock clicked and the door cracked open enough for the two of them to see half of Kurt's tear stained face.

"Kurt…" Blaine cooed. "C'mon, let me in."

The slim teen looked defeated before he opened the door enough to allow his friend to slip inside. He looked at Finn and let out a tiny sob before shaking his head and shutting the door.

The tall teen sighed equal parts relieved and worried. He wandered into the kitchen and noticed that it had just gone ten o'clock. This was not how he had imagined his night would go when he had settled down to watch girls in skimpy bikinis.

He opened the menu drawer and searched for the Chinese food menu. Lo mien was Kurt's guilty pleasure/comfort food. Finn had a feeling he was going to need it.

Blaine descended the stairs and took in the disaster that was Kurt's room. The contents of his vanity were all over the floor and it looked like the slim boy had ripped all the linens from his bed and created some kind of misery nest on the floor.

The dark haired teen stood at the bottom of the stairs and watched as Kurt curled up in the pile of blankets on the floor, damp and disheveled, radiating misery.

He helplessly gestured around the room. "Kurt, what's going on?"

This set the other boy off with a fresh round of tears and Blaine mentally slapped himself. Kurt was so tenderhearted that it was sometimes difficult to breach emotional subjects with him.

The shorter teen toed out of his shoes and waded into the sheet sea to sit next to Kurt. He hesitantly placed his hand on his friend's back, stroking gently.

"C'mon, Kurt," he pleaded. "Please, just tell me what's going on?"

He sat up abruptly and looked at Blaine, shaking hi head desperately. "I don't want to talk about it. Please, can't we just sit here?"

He collapsed back onto his blanket mound and his fingers gripped the sheets punishingly. Blaine threaded his fingers through Kurt's messy hair and furrowed his brow in concern.

"You know I'd normally say yes but you went on a date with a boy that no one really knows and came home crying. You look bad and you sound worse, and I'm really worried."

Kurt just sniffled miserably.

"What happened?" Blaine asked, giving the other boy's shoulder a little shake. Still no response.

"I need to know how much he hurt you so I can decide if I need to have him killed or just beaten up," he said, hoping to inject a little levity in the situation. "You know I'm too small to do it myself."

Kurt smiled weakly and sat up. He took one of the sheets and swathed himself in it like a burqa. Blaine followed suit and scooted close so the boy didn't have to raise his already straining voice.

They two teens sat in silence before Blaine could stand it no longer. "So," he began. "Judging from this, I'm going to guess your date didn't go as planned."

Kurt laughed, a hysterical edge to sound. He shook his head emphatically. No, not at all.

"Sam picked me up. We went to Breadstix for dinner; surprised, right?" he said sarcastically. "And during dinner he was really sweet. He asked me questions about myself, held my hand and didn't care when the busboy made a face."

Kurt sniffled again, a single tear dripping down his cheek. Blaine pulled out the handkerchief in his sweater pocket and passed it to him without a word.

The slim teen took it with a smile and dabbed at his eyes before continuing. "Then we went to the movies and things got a little weird. I don't even remember what we saw," he admitted. "Something kinda scary. We sat in the back and he pulled up the armrest between us. He put his arm around me and kept touching me with the other one."

Blaine did not like where this was going.

"Like, putting it on my leg and stomach and stuff. It felt weird, but I thought it was just 'cause I wasn't used to it. Like halfway through he wanted to make out, so we did and it was so awkward and uncomfortable. I never thought I'd be relieved to be caught by one of the ushers who wanted to check our ID's."

More sniffling and wiping and Blaine got up and headed to the mini fridge Kurt had in the corner. He snagged a bottle of water and brought it to him, the slim teen smiling gratefully.

"Thanks," he whispered thickly.

Blaine nodded and wiggled back into the blanket nest, focusing on Kurt once more.

"He asked me if I wanted to go back to his house for dessert or coffee or something. It was still kinda early, so I said yes."

Right then Blaine wanted to blurt out "Why didn't you say no!", but restrained himself. Kurt had this nasty habit of forcing himself to do things that made him uncomfortable and he could tell that this was the case with this situation.

"On the way back he kept his hand on my leg, like, really high. We pulled into his driveway and there were no other cars. I asked him about it and he said that his family was visiting his grandparents in Westchester."

He paused to blow his nose and realized he'd probably just ruined Blaine's handkerchief. "Sorry," he said sheepishly.

The tanned teen reached forward and rubbed his knee briefly. "Don't worry about it; I don't care. So, you were saying…?"

Kurt took a fortifying breath. "Right."

Originally I was just going to post this one chapter but I hope the fact that I split it up will make me write faster :P It'll probably have two more chapters, a bit longer than this one, the next one starting as a flashback.

I had written about more words to this but I was really dissatisfied with it so I'm starting anew. I hope you like it so far!
