It's none of his business. Blaine is just some guy he's met. They've spent all but two hours in each others company since meeting, and now, thanks to Sebastian, Kurt knows that he's never going to see Blaine again. It's better to just forget about him.
Kurt understands all of this, but it doesn't stop him picking up his phone and dialling Rachel's number.
"Oh God, Rach," he groans before she can even speak. "Kill me now."
"What's up?" Rachel asks patiently. She's used to Kurt being a little more than dramatic at times.
"Remember that dreamy guy from the bar?" Kurt begins. Again, he doesn't wait for her to speak. "I just had coffee with him."
"What!" Rachel shrieks. "How the hell did you two find each other? There must be a billion people in New York.
"Just luck, I guess." Kurt wants to say fate, but maybe that's a little cheesy.
"I thought you said he was married?" Rachel points out.
"He is." Then Kurt pauses. "I met his husband, actually. He's a total dick."
"You're bound to think that," Rachel reasons. "You have the hots for his husband; you aren't exactly going to want to be drinking buddies with the guy."
At this Kurt laughs. "I don't know. Maybe I'm over reacting, but he just seemed so... possessive. Which I suppose any guy in his position would be. Blaine's just too damn gorgeous." He runs a hand through his hair, as if doing so will brush away the thoughts running through his head.
"Kurt you need to stop," Rachel warns. "Right now. Just get him out of your head."
"I can't," Kurt whines. He pauses. "You know when you start reading a really good book but then you have to stop, and all you want to do is carry on reading until you reach the end? That's how I feel right now. I want to carry on reading Blaine, every single page."
He knows Rachel is rolling her eyes. He can practically hear the grind of her eyeballs as they roll. "Oh Kurt."
"Sorry, that was a little corny," Kurt sighs.
"Want to grab something to eat?" Rachel offers.
"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm gonna go for a walk," Kurt explains. "I'll see you later."
"Bye," Rachel says. "And Kurt - really. Forget about him."
----
Kurt ignores his head, and allows his heart to tug him along the next morning. He catches the Subway and begins the long walk to the Starbucks where he met Blaine. He almost walks straight past it - there are so many damn Starbucks in this city that it's hard to tell one from the next - but then he stops, because through the window Kurt sees him.
Sat in the same corner, hazel eyes all bright and hopeful, is Blaine. His dark curls are escaping from beneath a blue woolen beanie, and he's still sat in his coat, the coffee in his hands still blowing hot steam. He's obviously only just arrived.
Kurt feels slightly giddy as he steps foot inside. Blaine instantly looks up, and the smile that blooms across his face is enough to make Kurt believe he's done the right thing. How can anything wrong ever produce such a smile? He walks over, suddenly feeling shy. Blaine has gone slightly pink. They've both done the same thing, hoping for the same outcome, but neither of them are going to admit it.
"Fancy seeing you here again," Kurt says casually with a playful grin.
"I was determined to track you down and repay you for all of those coffees," Blaine explains. "Sit down. I'll go and get your drink."
"If you insist," Kurt replies gaily, beginning to remove his scarf. "I'll have a-"
"Grande nonfat mocha," Blaine finishes quietly. "I know."
Kurt stares up at him in amazement as he realises that maybe Blaine is more interested in him than he first thought, and that maybe Blaine was planning more dates between them from the start; why else would he bother to remember Kurt's coffee order?
Blaine gets up and as he comes up closer in order to brush past, Kurt notices that his lip is slightly swollen.
---
Sebastian went inside the apartment first, and Blaine followed him, head bowed like a child. None of them bothered to switch on the light. Sebastian simply sat down on the sofa in darkness, resting his elbows on his knees and running his fingers through his thick hair. Blaine felt like he was at a loose end. He paused by the sofa, then thought better of it and went in to the kitchen to make coffee. He heard Sebastian's footsteps tapping against the wooden floor moments later.
"How long have you known Kurt?" he asked, leaning against the door frame.
Blaine concentrated on making the coffee. His hands were shaking, sending sugar skittering all over the kitchen surface. "I met him on Saturday night. His band were playing at work."
"Oh, he's in a band?" Sebastian sneered. He came up close behind Blaine, gripping his fingers on either side of Blaine's hips, resting his head on his shoulder. Blaine closed his eyes. "Do you want to fuck him?" Sebastian demanded to know. His breath was hot as it blew against the back of Blaine's neck.
"Seb!" Blaine cried. "Don't be so-"
"Answer me," Sebastian growled, nails digging in deeper.
"Of course not. I want you - only you," Blaine replied. He swallowed down the bile rushing up his throat. "D-do you want some coffee?"
"After we've finished talking," Sebastian said. He had moved on to the other side of the room.
"What is there to talk about? Nothing happened," Blaine insisted. He rubbed his eyes with his knuckles, hoping that if Sebastian believed he was tired then he'd drop it.
"What were you thinking, getting coffee with him right near my university?" Sebastian snapped. "What if one of my colleagues or students saw you, fooling around with him? How does that make me look, Blaine?"
Blaine knew it would be pointless to remind Sebastian that none of the people he worked with would be able to pick out Blaine in a line up. "I didn't even realise how close we were. I'm sorry."
"You weren't thinking about me. You never do," Sebastian said. He sounded so childish and whiny that Blaine almost laughed.
"You're just being paranoid." The word slipped out of Blaine's mouth before he could even believe he said them. Sebastian's dark eyes blazed, and his arm extended to back hand Blaine hard against the mouth.
Blaine licked his lip, tasting the blood.
"Don't you dare be so fucking condescending," Sebastian shouted.
Blaine's heart was in his throat. If this was just Sebastian getting started, then he knew things were bound to get much worse. Sebastian towered over him, and not for the first time in his life Blaine hated how tiny he was. He stood his ground, staring up at his husband with eyes that Blaine hoped didn't betray how scared he really felt. Sebastian spoke very quietly.
"I'll let it slide, just this once," he said. "But I find out you ever go to meet that jackass again then I swear to you Blaine, you'll regret it."
Blaine swallowed. "Okay," he whispered.
"Now," Sebastian cleared his throat. "Come here."
Their routine ran like clockwork. Blaine ignored the stinging pain in his lip and stepped forwards. Falling in to Sebastian's arms felt like throwing himself off a plank. He breathed in Sebastian's scent and felt sick and cold all over. He despised himself as much as Sebastian.
"I just love you so much, baby," Sebastian coaxed in to Blaine's curls. "The thought of you being with anybody else... it kills me."
Comments
Wow. Sebastian's mindfuckery and temper are quite well written. As is Blaine's reaction and inner thoughts. Now I just dread what happens when Sebastian finds out Kurt's still in the picture. Poor Blaine.
another great chapter from you!!! can we get some more background on kurt? maybe something that shows how he is in a position to protect blaine...??? anything form you would be great!!
